Each year, the Rome Prize is awarded to thirty emerging artists and scholars in the early or middle stages of their careers who represent the highest standard of excellence in the arts and humanities. Prize recipients are invited to Rome for six months or eleven months to immerse themselves in the Academy community where they will enjoy a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand their own professional, artistic, or scholarly pursuits, drawing on their colleagues' erudition and experience and on the inestimable resources that Italy, Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Academy have to offer. Rome Prize winners are the core of the Academy's residential community, which also includes Residents and Visiting Artists and Scholars. Fellows are encouraged to work collegially within and across disciplines in pursuit of their individual artistic and scholarly goals. The Academy gratefully acknowledges the National Endowment for the Humanities for its support of the Rome Prize competition.

The American Academy in Rome invites applications for the Rome Prize competition. One of leading overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and the humanities. The Academy offers up to thirty fellowships for periods ranging from six months to two years. Rome Prize winners reside at the academy's eleven-acre center in Rome and receive room and board, a private study or studio, and a stipend. Fellowships are awarded in the following fields: -Architecture -Design (including graphic, fashion, interior, lighting, and set design, engineering, urban planning, and other related design fields) -Historic Preservation and Conservation (including architectural design, public policy, and the conservation of works of art) -Landscape Architecture -Literature (** by nomination only) -Musical composition -Visual Arts -Ancient Studies -Medieval Studies -Renaissance and Early Modern Studies -Modern Italian Studies For further information, or to apply, visit the Academy's website at www.aarome.org. The Vilcek Foundation will award three prizes of $50,000 each to young fashion professionals who demonstrate outstanding early achievement. Professionals in the following fields are encouraged to apply: Designer - including but not exclusive to womenswear, menswear, textile design, accessories, and other artifacts Stylist - including editorials, advertising campaigns, and fashion presentations Makeup/hair artist - truly experimental pushing the breadth of materials used to communicate their narrative of makeup or hair Image Maker - including fashion photography, film, animation, and illustration Curator - including exhibitions, presentations, and display through real and/or virtual environment Writer - fashion writing, including curatorial, journalistic, critical, editorial, and historical

The Foundation's Innovations in Reading Prize recognizes exceptional initiatives and programs that have created and sustained a lifelong love of reading: thoughtful, groundbreaking projects that generate excitement and passion for literature and books. The Foundation is particularly interested in applications from those that have developed interdisciplinary approaches and incorporate innovative thinking in design, technology, social change, social entrepreneurship, or other fields. Potential candidates can enter themselves for consideration or be nominated by others. Winners receive $2,500 each and are featured prominently on the Foundation's website and in other digital publicity that reaches around the world.
