The Hertz Fellowship provides financial and lifelong professional support for the nation's most promising graduate students in science and technology. The fellowship includes up to five years of funding, valued at up to $250,000, and the freedom to pursue innovative projects wherever they may lead. In addition, fellows take part in ongoing mentoring, symposia, and workshops with our vibrant community of more than 1200 fellows, a set of peers who span disciplines, generations, and geography.

The American Psychiatric Foundation is sponsoring the one-year Psychiatric Research Fellowship for three post-graduate psychiatry trainees specifically to focus on research and personal scholarship. Minimal time (less than 15%) will be devoted to teaching, patient care, consultation, or other duties. The protection of time for research should be assured by the department chairman. The Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) is offering semester-long sabbaticals for the study, research, and teaching of classical liberal ideas including private property, free speech, individual rights, open markets and other precepts. Sabbatical fellowships will be offered in the 2020-2021 academic years, and sabbaticals must be taken during the designated periods. Both tenured and tenure track may apply. IHS traditionally works with academics in the fields of economics, political science, philosophy, history, and law, however scholars in other disciplines are welcome to apply.  fellowships will be given at two levels: $50,000 and $85,000. Awards are not limited to tenured faculty. Faculty at any stage of their career may apply. Academics looking to complete book projects or articles as part of a tenure application or promotion dossier are especially encouraged to apply.

The Fellowship Program for Advanced Social Science Research on Japan is a joint activity of the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission (JUSFC) and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Awards support research on modern Japanese society and political economy, Japan's international relations, and U.S.-Japan relations. The program encourages innovative research that puts these subjects in wider regional and global contexts and is comparative and contemporary in nature. Research should contribute to scholarly knowledge or to the general public's understanding of issues of concern to Japan and the United States. Appropriate disciplines for the research include anthropology, economics, geography, history, international relations, linguistics, political science, psychology, public administration, and sociology. Awards usually result in articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources.

This program provides awards to accredited academic institutions to support graduate research leading to doctoral degrees in areas that are relevant to ensuring public safety, preventing and controlling crime, and ensuring the fair and impartial administration of criminal justice in the United States. NIJ invests in doctoral education by supporting academic institutions that sponsor students who demonstrate the potential to successfully complete doctoral degree programs in disciplines relevant to the mission of NIJ and who are in the final stages of graduate study. Applicants sponsoring doctoral students are eligible to apply only (1) if the doctoral student'‚ƒƒ™s degree program is a Social and Behavioral Science discipline and (2) if the student's proposed dissertation research has direct implications for criminal justice policy and practice in the United States.

Focus on Short-term Risk for Suicide (up to $1.5 million over 3 years):Letter of Intent required for this application.  AFSP offers Suicide Research Grants in six categories. Distinguished Investigator Grants (up to $100,000 over 2 years):Grants awarded to investigators at the level of associate professor or higher with an established record of research and publication on suicide.  Standard Research Grants (up to $90,000 over 2 years):Grants awarded to individual investigators at any level. Linked Standard Research Grants (up to $225,000 over 2 years):Grants awarded to investigators at any level performing research involving three or more unique sites. Young Investigator Grants (up to $85,000 over 2 years):Grants awarded to investigators at or below the level of assistant professor. These grants must allocate $10,000 ($5,000 per year) of their award for an established suicide researcher to mentor the Young Investigator. AFSP is available to assist you in identifying a suitable mentor.  Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (up to $104,000 over 2 years):Grants awarded to investigators who have received a Ph.D., M.D., or other doctoral degree within the preceding six years and have had no more than three years of fellowship support. Fellows receive a stipend of $46,000 per year and an institutional allowance of $6,000 per year.  Pilot Grants (up to $30,000 over one or two years):Awarded to investigators at any level, these grants provide seed funding for new projects that have the potential to lead to larger investigations. These grants typically entail feasibility studies rather than hypothesis-driven research. 

Candidates must indicate an interest in schizophrenia research and, if possible, provide evidence of continuing and future involvement and activity in the field.  Individuals must be graduate students, residents, fellows or new/young faculty members that have completed their last training in the last 5 years.  Candidates who are members of an ethnic minority group or from a low income country, underrepresented in biomedical science areas, are strongly encouraged to apply.  Awardees are required to submit a poster or oral presentation abstract.  Awardees will also participate in the meeting as rapporteurs of oral sessions and their reports will be edited into a published summary of the congress after it occurs.  Application deadline is Monday, 21 October 2013.  The travel award recipients will be announced on Friday, 22 November.

The APA Jeanne Spurlock Congressional Fellowship is an opportunity for residents, fellows, and Early Career Psychiatrists to represent the profession of psychiatry on Capitol Hill and work with federal policy makers to shape public policy. This is an exciting opportunity to see the inner workings of a congressional office, how legislation is developed, and the impact of community activism.

NIJ's New Investigator/Early Career Program provides support for non-tenured assistant professors to conduct applied research on topics relevant to NIJ's Office of Research and Evaluation (ORE) including justice systems, violence and victimization, and/or crime control and prevention. Applications must propose research led by a Principal Investigator (PI) who: was awarded a terminal degree within the four (4) years prior to September 30, 2016; holds a non- tenured assistant professor position at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States; and has not previously served as PI on an NIJ research grant or fellowship. Please note that those who have held Graduate Research Fellowships with NIJ are not deemed PIs under that award and are eligible under this solicitation. The American Psychological Association is accepting applications to its Elizabeth Munsterberg Koppitz Fellowship program, which is designed to nurture young scholars interested in a career child psychology, including child-clinical, pediatric, school, educational, and developmental psychopathology.

The American Psychological Association is inviting applications for its APA Congressional Fellowship Program. Through the annual program, fellows spend one year working on the staff of a member of Congress or congressional committee. Activities may involve drafting legislation, conducting oversight work, assisting with congressional hearings and events, and preparing briefs and speeches. Fellows also attend a two-week orientation program on congressional and executive branch operations, which provides guidance for the congressional placement process, and participate in a yearlong seminar series on science and public policy issues. The American Association for the Advancement of Science administers these professional development activities for the APA fellows and for fellows sponsored by over two dozen other professional societies.

The program is open to citizens of the United States and Japan as well as to nationals of other countries who can demonstrate strong and serious long-term affiliations with research communities in Japan or the United States. Applicants must hold a PhD or the terminal degree in their field, or have attained an equivalent level of professional experience at the time of application. Applications from researchers in professions other than academia are encouraged with the expectation that the product of the fellowship will contribute to the wider body of knowledge on the topic specified.

The mission of the American Psychological Association is to advance the creation, communication, and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives. In partnership with the International Union of Psychological Science, APA is inviting applications for the APA-IUPsyS Global Mental Health Fellowship Through the program, one psychologist will be given a unique opportunity to contribute to the work of the World Health Organization (WHO), in the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, providing him/her with exposure to and involvement with global mental health policy and implementation, as well as the opportunity to contribute to the more effective use of psychological knowledge and research in this arena.

The purpose of this individual postdoctoral research training fellowship is to enhance the research training of promising postdoctoral candidates who have the potential to become productive, independent investigators in health services research, with a research interest in areas and priorities relevant to the mission of AHRQ.

Established in 2002, the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation has evolved into the largest private funder of spinal cord injury research, rehabilitation, and clinical training in the United States. The foundation funds scientific research (preclinical, translational, clinical, and psychosocial); opportunity and independence programs; scholarships for students with SCI; postdoctoral and SCI medicine fellowships; and other projects designed to support the SCI community in the United States and Canada. To advance this mission, the foundation has issued a Request for Proposals for its 2019 Psychosocial Research grants cycle. A goal of the funding is to identify and prioritize critical gaps in the psychosocial field and develop more effective interventions aimed at improving the health of individuals with SCI across the lifespan. Funding categories range from postdoctoral fellowships to pilot and demonstration project grants. Award amounts will range between $150,000 and $400,000. To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization that conducts research on the psychological and social factors that affect health, functioning, and quality of life for people living with spinal cord injuries.

The Esther A. & Joseph Klingenstein Fund, in partnership with the Simons Foundation, has announced the opening of its 2018 competition for research fellowships in the neurosciences. Previously known as the Klingenstein Fellowship Awards in the Neurosciences, this year's awards are the second from this joint initiative. The awards are presented to highly promising early-career scientists. At a critical juncture in young investigators' careers when funding can be a challenge, the awards are intended to promote higher-risk, and potentially higher-reward, projects. Payable over three years, the $225,000 award may be used for salary support, research assistants, equipment, or any other purpose that promotes the scientific activities of the fellow. To be eligible, investigators must hold a PhD and/or MD degree and have completed all their research training, including postdoctoral training. In addition, the applicant must be an independent investigator within four years (between July 1, 2014, and July 1, 2018) of receiving his/her first tenure-track appointment at a university or medical institution.

Through the program, one-year grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded to support graduate research projects and scholarships in child psychology. To be eligible, applicants must have completed doctoral candidacy at the time of application (documentation required) and demonstrated research competence and area commitment. In addition, IRB approval must be received from their host institution before funding can be awarded if human participants are involved.
