    The Autism Science Foundation is inviting applications for its Pre- and Postdoctoral Training Awards from graduate students, medical students, and postdoctoral fellows interested in pursuing careers in basic and clinical research relevant to autism spectrum disorders. The proposed training must be scientifically linked to autism and may be broadened to include training in a closely related area of scientific research, including but not limited to human behavior across the lifespan (language, learning, behavior, communication, social function, motor skills & planning, epilepsy, sleep, repetitive disorders), neurobiology (anatomy, development, neuroimaging), pharmacology, neuropathology, genetics, epigenetics, genomics, epigenomics, immunology, molecular and cellular mechanisms, studies employing model organisms and systems, and studies of treatment and service delivery. Special consideration will be given to projects focused on gender issues in autism. This includes studies examining the female protective effect, neurobiological and neuroanatomical examination of the female autism brain, diagnostic differences and challenges in females, the female phenotype, and health and lifespan issues, including vocational services and employment. ASF also invites studies focused on unaffected siblings and recurrence risk in the offspring of unaffected siblings. ASF is also interested in supporting research on the neurobiology and molecular biology of autism using post-mortem brain tissue. The one-year awards include $25,000 for predoctoral and medical students and $35,000 for postdoctoral students.

ASPP Student Travel Award: Learn How APA Governance Works - 0 views

    The Assembly of Scientist/Practitioner Psychologists (ASPP), a caucus of the Council of Representatives (COR) of APA, is providing an expense paid trip to the February 2015 Council meeting in Washington, D.C., for a doctoral student in psychology to become familiar with the governance structure of the APA Council and the caucuses and how they work. At the COR meeting the student who receives the award will be mentored by the Chair of the ASPP.

    The Psychology Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research will be providing presentation awards ($100 gift cards to Amazon) to students of CUR members who are presenting at the following  regional undergraduate research conferences: Rocky Mountain Psychological Association (RMPA), Midwestern Psychological Association (MPA), Eastern Psychological Association (EPA), Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA), Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA) and Western Psychological Association (WPA). One award will also be given to students presenting at Association for Psychological Science (APS). Students are encouraged to use the presentation award on educational materials.

    Bringing Theory to Practice Project, an independent project established by the Association of American Colleges and Universities, is accepting proposals from universities and colleges in the United States for projects aimed promoting the nexus of engaged learning, civic engagement, and psychosocial well-being among college and university students. Seminar grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded for projects that bring together diverse members of the campus community to discuss the civic mission of the institution and how the full expression of that mission can be achieved. Proposals will be accepted on a quarterly-deadline system (June 15, September 15, December 15, and March 15), with awards announced two weeks after each deadline. The awards are distributed in the following three categories. STUDIES IN GENERAL HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY - 2 AWARDS Understanding the etiology, promotion and maintenance of health; Prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of physical illness; Psychological, social, emotional and behavioral factors in physical illness; and Health care systems and health policy. RESEARCH IN CHILD HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY - 1 AWARD Studies addressing one of the topics outlined in the items above under General Psychology directed at a sample comprised primarily or exclusively of children or adolescents. This award is conferred in memory of Lizette Peterson, a former Health Psychology editor and Division 38 member. RESEARCH ADDRESSING HEALTH DISPARITIES - 2 AWARDS Defined as "differences in the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and burden of diseases and other adverse health conditions that exist among specific population group" (National Institutes of Health). In particular, these awards are intended to support research focusing on various health conditions that are more prevalent, serious, or specific to disadvantaged and medically underserved groups, or on healthcare inequities relevant to these groups, specifically, ethnic minorities and socio-economically disadvantaged individuals in rural and urban areas.
