    NIDA and the following NIH Institutes, Centers, and Programs, NIAAA, NICHD, NIMH, NIMHD, NINDS, and ECHO intend to publish a funding opportunity announcement to solicit applications to propose and test the feasibility of research study designs addressing the impact of pre- and postnatal substance exposure (including opioids, opioid treatment medications, cannabis, alcohol, tobacco, other prescription or illicit substances, alone or in combination) on brain, social, and behavioral development, mental illness, and substance use. In addition to planning and testing the feasibility of study designs, awardees will be expected to participate in several grantee meetings to share lessons learned and begin to develop the network of sites needed to conduct this study.

    One Mind is inviting applications for its Rising Star Research Awards program, which seeks to fund early-career investigators who have demonstrated productivity and innovation in a scientific field that can be applied to the study of neuropsychiatric disorders such as anxiety, addiction, bipolar disorder, depression, posttraumatic stress, schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury, suicidality, and other serious psychiatric illnesses. To that end, grants of $300,000 over three years will be awarded in support of research proposals on any of a wide range of neuropsychiatric conditions. Studies focusing on bipolar disorder are of special interest, including applications that would advance therapeutics ranging from biomarkers to promising therapeutic modalities (e.g., neurostimulation). Examples of relevant research include those with potential to identify new biological mechanisms and therapeutic targets; develop new or refine existing models and research tools; identify or validate biomarkers; evaluate the effectiveness of therapies, including pharmaceuticals, electroceuticals, digital therapies, or cognitive and behavioral health interventions to prevent the onset of or promote recovery from neuropsychiatric disorders; characterize similarities and differences between two or more neuropsychiatric or neurotraumatic disorders to advance personalized medicine; improve understanding of how comorbid conditions such as cancer and diabetes, as well as other neurological and non-neurological disorders, interact with neuropsychiatric disorders and impact diagnosis, prognosis, and treatments; promote or restore brain health by conducting bi-directional and/or iterative translational research using existing clinical data or new data from small pilot clinical studies in combination with relevant preclinical or computational models; or advance digital health, telehealth, or other innovative approaches to increasing access to mental health care.

NARSAD Young Investigator Grant - 0 views

    The NARSAD Young Investigator Grant provides support for the most promising young scientists conducting neurobiological research. Two year awards up to $60,000, or $30,000 per year are provided to enable promising investigators to either extend research fellowship training or begin careers as independent research faculty. Basic and/or clinical investigators are supported, but research must be relevant to serious brain and behavior disorders such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, or child and adolescent mental illnesses. A few NARSAD Young Investigators are selected each year to present at the foundation's annual Scientific Symposium in New York City. NARSAD Young Investigators are also eligible to be selected for the Foundation's Freedman Prize for Outstanding Basic Research and Klerman Prize for Outstanding Clinical Research. Psychological Health/Traumatic Brain Injury, Long-Term Impact of Military-Relevant Brai... - 0 views

    The National Research Action Plan (NRAP) responding to Executive Order 13625, Improving Access to Mental Health Services for Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families (August 31, 2012), lays out a framework to ensure that Government funding agencies work together to further our knowledge and diagnostic/therapeutic capabilities with regard to post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), TBI, suicide, and related injuries by following longitudinal cohorts of Service members and Veterans. The DoD and VA ORD meet this directive through continued collaboration on and coordination of research efforts in the areas of TBI and PTSD. Additionally, recommendations from the DoD Blast Injury Research Program Coordinating Office's November 2015 International State of the Science Meeting (Does Repeated Blast- Related Trauma Contribute to the Development of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)?) included pursuing longitudinal studies to evaluate links between blast-related TBI with CTE. While a number of longitudinal efforts are ongoing, the DoD and VA seek to pursue a mechanism to collaboratively streamline and continue longitudinal studies of mTBI in active duty and Veteran populations. The objective of this effort is to solicit a single Consortium of a large longitudinal study and supporting sub-studies to analyze a large TBI cohort to include Service members, Veterans, and relevant populations.
