The Cyberinfrastructure for Sustained Scientific Innovation (CSSI) umbrella program seeks to enable funding opportunities that are flexible and responsive to the evolving and emerging needs in cyberinfrastructure. This program continues the CSSI program by removing the distinction between software and data elements/framework implementations, and instead emphasizing integrated cyberinfrastructure services, quantitative metrics with targets for delivery and usage of these services, and community creation.

Research supported by the Division of Materials Research (DMR) focuses on advancing fundamental understanding of materials, materials discovery, design, synthesis, characterization, properties, and materials-related phenomena. DMR awards enable understanding of the electronic, atomic, and molecular structures, mechanisms, and processes that govern nanoscale to macroscale morphology and properties; manipulation and control of these properties; discovery of emerging phenomena of matter and materials; and creation of novel design, synthesis, and processing strategies that lead to new materials with unique characteristics. These discoveries and advancements transcend traditional scientific and engineering disciplines. The Division supports research and education activities in the United States through funding of individual investigators, teams, centers, facilities, and instrumentation. Projects supported by DMR are essential for the development of future technologies and industries that meet societal needs, as well preparation of the next generation of materials researchers.

The goals of the Accelerating Research through International Network-to-Network Collaborations (AccelNet) program are to accelerate the process of scientific discovery and prepare the next generation of U.S. researchers for multiteam international collaborations. The AccelNet program supports strategic linkages among U.S. research networks and complementary networks abroad that will leverage research and educational resources to tackle grand scientific challenges that require significant coordinated international efforts. The program seeks to foster high-impact science and engineering by providing opportunities to create new collaborations and new combinations of resources and ideas among linked global networks.

Transdisciplinary Research In Principles Of Data Science (TRIPODS) aims to bring together the statistics, mathematics, and theoretical computer science communities to develop the theoretical foundations of data science through integrated research and training activities. The purpose of the Mathematical Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (MSPRF) is to support future leaders in mathematics and statistics by facilitating their participation in postdoctoral research environments that will have maximal impact on their future scientific development. There are two options for awardees: Research Fellowship and Research Instructorship. Awards will support research in areas of mathematics and statistics, including applications to other disciplines.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to increase the impact of NICHD-funded research within the scientific mission of the NICHD Population Dynamics Branch (PDB) by providing research infrastructure to: promote data sharing; support the development of procedures and technologies for data sharing; disseminate best practices in data sharing; provide a resource that catalogs NICHD-funded data available for secondary analysis; and promote the secondary analysis of data collected through NICHD grants to research teams outside the original grantees.

The Simons Foundation is inviting applications for its Collaborations in Mathematics and the Physical Sciences program. The goal of the program is to stimulate progress on fundamental scientific questions of major importance in mathematics, theoretical physics, and theoretical computer science. To that end, $2 million a year for an initial period of four years, including up to 20 percent a year for indirect costs, will be awarded in support of collaborations that address a mathematical or theoretical topic of fundamental scientific importance where a significant, new development creates a novel area for exploration or provides a new direction for progress in an established field. Questions addressed by the collaboration may be concrete or conceptual, but there should be little doubt that answering them would constitute a major scientific milestone. The project should involve outstanding researchers in a range of career stages. The foundation expects to award up to two collaborations in 2020.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is accepting applications from teachers of pre-K-5 mathematics for projects that incorporate music into the classroom to help young students learn math. Grants of up to $3,000 will be awarded to individual classroom teachers or small groups of teachers collaborating in a grade or across grade levels. Any acquisition of equipment must support the proposed plan but not be the primary focus of the grant. Proposals must address the integration of mathematics and music, planning for improving students' learning, and/or the anticipated impact on student achievement. Applicants must be a current Full Individual or E-Member of NCTM or teach in a school with a current NCTM pre-K-8 school membership and currently teach mathematics or collaborate with teachers of math in grades pre-K-2. 

The National Committee of Teachers of Mathematics's Principles to Actions: Ensuring Mathematical Success for All suggests that teachers must identify what counts as evidence of student progress toward mathematics learning goals and reflect on evidence to inform the planning of future instruction. In addition, teachers should work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and community members to ensure that all students have the support they need to maximize success in the mathematics classroom. To that end, the NCTM is accepting applications for classroom-based research in pre-college mathematics education in collaboration with college or university mathematics educators. Grants of up to $6,000 each will be awarded to mathematics educators or classroom teachers currently teaching mathematics at the grade 7-12 level. The research must be a collaborative effort involving a college or university mathematics educator (a mathematics education researcher or a teacher of mathematics learning, teaching, or curriculum) and one or more grade 7-12 classroom teachers (individuals who spend half or more of their work time teaching in the classroom).

The Toshiba America Foundation is accepting grant applications from K-5 teachers for innovative science or math projects in their classrooms. The foundation awards individual grants of up to $1,000 to any K-5 teacher in a public or private nonprofit school in support of a hands-on science or math education project. The funds are intended to be used for the purchase of project-related materials only. The foundation strongly encourages projects planned and led by individual teachers or teams of teachers for their own classrooms. Summer projects or afterschool programs, salaries, facility maintenance, textbooks, video production, audio-visual equipment, and education research will not be considered for funding.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Lifetime Achievement Awards are designed to honor current full  Individual, E-, or Emeritus Members of NCTM who have demonstrated a lifetime of achievement in mathematics education at the national level. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes achievement in leadership, teaching, and service. Distinction in any of these categories can be demonstrated through performance of the nominee on the job; service beyond the requirements of the job at the state and national/international level; and service to NCTM such as offices held, committee memberships, special projects, meetings, and publications. The award may be given posthumously. Presentations are made yearly at the NCTM Annual Meeting and Exposition. To be eligible, nominees should have a minimum of twenty-five years of distinguished service to mathematics education.

Plasma Physics is a study of matter and physical systems whose intrinsic properties are governed by collective interactions of large ensembles of free charged particles. 99.9% of the visible Universe is thought to consist of plasmas. The underlying physics of the collective behavior in plasmas has applications to space physics and astrophysics, materials science, applied mathematics, fusion science, accelerator science, and many branches of engineering. The National Science Foundation (NSF), with participation of the Directorates for Engineering, Geosciences, and Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and the Department of Energy, Office of Science, Fusion Energy Sciences are continuing the joint Partnership in Basic Plasma Science and Engineering begun in FY1997 and renewed several times since. As stated in the original solicitation (NSF 97-39), which is superseded by the present solicitation, the goal of the Partnership is to enhance basic plasma science research and education in this broad, multidisciplinary field by coordinating efforts and combining resources of the two agencies. The current solicitation also encourages submission of proposals to perform basic plasma experiments at NSF and/or DOE supported user facilities, including facilities located at DOE national laboratories, designed to serve the needs of the broader plasma science and engineering community.

Sabbatical research leaves from classroom teaching and administrative obligations can provide strong intellectual stimulation and lead to increased creativity and productivity in research. The foundation's Fellows program seeks to make sabbatical research leaves more productive by extending them from a single term to a full academic year. Through the program, Fellows receive salary replacement for up to 50 percent (up to a maximum of $100,000) of the fellow's current academic-year salary, whether normally paid over nine or twelve months, and up to and additional $10,000 for expenses related to the leave. The fellow's home institution will receive an additional 20 percent overhead on allowable expenses. Forty mathematics fellowships are awarded each year.

Since 1881, the American Association of University Women has worked nationally to improve the lives of millions of women and their families. The organization currently is inviting applications for its American Fellowships program. Through the program, grants will be awarded to  women scholars who are completing dissertations, planning research leave from accredited institutions, or preparing research for publication. Three categories of awards are supported through the program and are open to women scholars in all fields of study. American Dissertation Fellowships - Grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to offset a scholar's living expenses while she completes her dissertation. Fellowships are open to applicants in all fields of study, and women scholars engaged in STEM fields or researching gender issues are especially encouraged to apply. Fellowships must be used for the final year of dissertation writing, and applicants must have completed all course work, passed all preliminary examinations, and received approval for their research proposals or plans by November 1, 2019. The doctoral degree/dissertation must be completed between April 1 and June 30, 2021, and degree conferral must be between April 1 and September 15, 2021.

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is support applied research that will develop, advance, and apply mathematical models to investigate the utility and impact of prevention and control strategies for seasonal and pandemic influenza, including vaccination and treatment. This NOFO will establish a network of Influenza Modeling Centers that conducts research to facilitate the rapid development, harmonization, validation, synthesis, and communication of multiple mathematical models and their results for seasonal and pandemic influenza prevention and control. This NOFO is expected to generate advancements in the rapid sharing of validated modeling results from multiple models that will improve the evidence base for public health action and policy development.

To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its Targeted Grants to Institutes program. Through the program, three grants of up to $200,000 a year for up to five years will be awarded to established institutes/centers of mathematics, theoretical physics, or theoretical computer science in support of activities that strengthen contacts within the international scientific community. (The program does not provide support for establishing of the operations of an existing institute/center.)

The goal of the Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program is to prepare graduate students for science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) careers critically important to the DOE Office of Science mission, by providing graduate thesis research opportunities at DOE laboratories.  The SCGSR program provides supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to pursue part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE laboratory/facility in areas that address scientific challenges central to the Office of Science mission. The research opportunity is expected to advance the graduate students' overall doctoral thesis while providing access to the expertise, resources, and capabilities available at the DOE laboratories/facilities. The SCGSR program is sponsored and managed by the DOE Office of Science's Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS), in collaboration with the 6 Office of Science research programs and the DOE national laboratories/facilities. Online application and awards administration support is provided by Oak Ridge Institute of Science and Education (ORISE) under Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU). The SCGSR program provides supplemental funds for graduate awardees to conduct part of their thesis research at a host DOE laboratory/facility in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist within a defined award period. Collaborating DOE Laboratory Scientists may be from any of the participating DOE national laboratories/facilities. The award period for the proposed research project at DOE laboratories/facilities may range from 3 to 12 consecutive months.
