The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) Federal Justice Statistics Program (FJSP) collects, standardizes, and publishes statistics about the federal response to crime and the operation of the federal criminal justice system. The FJSP produces annual standardized data files (Standard Analysis Files, or SAFs), which document the federal criminal case processing stages from arrest, to prosecution, pretrial release, adjudication, sentencing, appeals, and corrections. BJS seeks an agent to implement the Federal Justice Statistics Analytical Support Program (FJSASP) project. This project is designed to provide scientific and technical support to BJS for methodological research, statistical analysis, and the generation of statistical reports using data from the FJSP. In addition, the FJSASP will work with BJS to identify additional sources of data to further enhance the FJSP (e.g., immigration enforcement and court statistics; enforcement data from federal regulatory agencies; civil data from the federal courts; and staffing and budget statistics).

The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) of the National Science Foundation (NSF) is one of the thirteen principal federal statistical agencies within the United States. It is responsible for the collection, acquisition, analysis, reporting and dissemination of objective, statistical data related to the science and engineering enterprise in the United States and other nations that is relevant and useful to practitioners, researchers, policymakers and the public. NCSES uses this information to prepare a number of statistical data reports as well as analytical reports including the National Science Board's biennial report, Science and Engineering (S&E) Indicators, and Women, Minorities and Persons with Disabilities in Science and Engineering. The Center would like to enhance its efforts to support analytic and methodological research in support of its surveys, and to engage in the education and training of researchers in the use of large-scale nationally representative datasets. NCSES welcomes efforts by the research community to use NCSES data for research on the science and technology enterprise, to develop improved survey methodologies for NCSES surveys, to create and improve indicators of S&T activities and resources, and strengthen methodologies to analyze and disseminate S&T statistical data. To that end, NCSES invites proposals for individual or multi-investigator research projects, doctoral dissertation improvement awards, workshops, experimental research, survey research and data collection and dissemination projects under its program for Research on the Science and Technology Enterprise: Statistics and Surveys.

The National Victimization Statistical Support Program (NVSSP) project is designed to: (1) provide scientific and technical support for statistical and methodological research, statistical analyses, documentation, and dissemination in support of BJS's efforts related to the redesign of its National Criminal Victimization Survey (NCVS); (2) enhance BJS's statistical reporting program from the NCVS and other federal data on criminal victimization; and (3) support BJS efforts to use the NCVS to inform its future decisions about the design and content of its victimization statistics program. The goal is to increase the breadth of substantive issues that are addressed with the NCVS, both in the short-run and longer-term.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is publishing this notice to announce the Technical Assistance Program to support activities under the State Justice Statistics Program for Statistical Analysis Centers (SJS-SAC) in fiscal year 2017. The SJS-SAC program is designed to maintain and enhance each state capacity to coordinate statistical activities in the state, conduct research on relevant criminal justice issues, and serve as a liaison to help BJS gather data from state agencies.

The goal of the program is to promote the creation and development of the next generation of mathematical and statistical theories and tools that will be essential for addressing such issues. To this end, the program will support fundamental research in mathematics and statistics whose primary emphasis will be on meeting the aforementioned computational and data-related challenges. This program is part of the wider Computational and Data-enabled Science and Engineering (CDS&E) enterprise in NSF that seeks to address this emerging discipline

We are following up on the 2019 Statistics for Improving Insights and Decisions research awards to foster further innovation in this area and to deepen our collaborations with academia. External researchers can submit proposals to address challenges in applied statistics that have direct applications for producing more effective insights and decisions for data scientists and researchers. Facebook has a large, active and diverse community of practitioners, so we are interested in a varied set of statistical topics, including but not limited to experimentation, forecasting, predictive modeling, survey and ground truth modeling and sampling.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is seeking applications under its Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) Program. This program provides awards to accredited universities for doctoral research that uses criminal justice data or statistical series and focuses on crime, violence, and other criminal justice-related topics. BJS invests in doctoral education by supporting universities that sponsor students who demonstrate the potential to complete doctoral degree programs successfully in disciplines relevant to the mission of BJS, and who are in the final stages of graduate study. The primary goal of this solicitation is to increase the pool of researchers using criminal justice statistical data generated by BJS, thereby contributing solutions that better prevent and control crime and help ensure the fair and impartial administration of criminal justice in the United States.

The CDS&E-MSS program accepts proposals that engage with the mathematical and statistical challenges presented by (1) the ever-expanding role of computational experimentation, modeling, and simulation on the one hand, and (2) the explosion in production and analysis of digital data from experimental and observational sources on the other. The goal of the program is to promote the creation and development of the next generation of mathematical and statistical software tools, and the theory underpinning those tools, that will be essential for addressing these challenges. The research supported by the CDS&E-MSS program will aim to advance mathematics or statistics in a significant way and will address computational or big-data challenges. Proposals of interest to the program must include a Principal Investigator or co-Principal Investigator who is a researcher in an area supported by the Division of Mathematical Sciences. The program welcomes submission of proposals that include multidisciplinary collaborations or provide opportunities for training through research involvement of junior mathematicians or statisticians. This program is part of the wider NSF Computational and Data-enabled Science and Engineering (CDS&E) enterprise.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) seeks an agent to conduct data collection and related activities for the National Prisoner Statistics program (NPS) and the National Corrections Reporting Program (NCRP). This award covers the four collection cycles for reporting years 2020 through 2024. The project period is October 1 2020, through September 30, 2025.These two programs were first competed together for the RY 2014-2019 award. The current funding is for the first 3 years of the award; the final 2 years will be funded upon successful completion of 2020-2022 data. The NPS and NCRP are BJS's flagship data collections measuring the size and composition of state and federal prison populations on an annual basis. The two collections complement each other by obtaining aggregate and detailed individual-level information on prisoners, which is used to describe and compare the prison population over time. The NPS collects aggregate counts of the male and female custody and jurisdictional prison populations as of December 31 each year. State departments of corrections (DOCs) and the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) use their administrative records to tally their prison populations by jurisdiction, types of prison admissions and releases during the past year, race/Hispanic origin, and capacity of the facilities that hold prisoners in their custody. NPS also provides annual information on the number of confirmed cases of HIV/AIDS and current testing policies for these conditions. NPS has been collected annually since 1926, and these data are used in BJS's Prisoners series and Corrections Populations in the United States series bulletins.

Nominations are sought for the 2013 National Institute of Statistical Sciences' (NISS) Jerome Sacks Award for Outstanding Cross-Disciplinary Research.  The prize recognizes SUSTAINED, HIGH-QUALITY cross-disciplinary research involving the statistical sciences.  The prize of $1,000 will be presented at the NISS/SAMSI JSM Reception on August 5, 2013, in Montreal.

The long-range goal of EXTREEMS-QED is to support efforts to educate the next generation of mathematics and statistics undergraduate students to confront new challenges in computational and data-enabled science and engineering (CDS&E).  EXTREEMS-QED projects must enhance the knowledge and skills of most, if not all, the institution's mathematics and statistics majors through training that incorporates computational tools for analysis of large data sets and for modeling and simulation of complex systems.
