    The Baird Society Resident Scholar Program was established to support the study of some of SI Libraries' most unique and valuable holdings: its Special Collections. Stipends of $3,500 per month for up to six months are available for individuals working on a topic relating to these collections. Historians, librarians, doctoral students, and post-doctoral scholars are welcome to apply. Scholars must be in residence at the Smithsonian during the award period. While the Libraries' extensive general collections may be used to support scholars' research, the focus of their projects must center around Special Collections. These collections are located in in Washington, DC and New York City, and include:

    Applications are sought for the Mary Ball Washington Fulbright Award in American History at University College Dublin in Ireland. Applicants from all appropriate disciplines are welcome, but American History is preferred. A specialization in 19th and 20th century U.S. history is also preferred. The grant activity includes: conducting and presenting own research, mentoring graduate students, and contributing to the school's Distinguished Lecture Series. Teaching is to be agreed with Head of School. Grantee will have a Ph.D. and teaching experience at college/university level and tenure. This Award is not open to early career scholars. The grant is for a maximum €58,000 for the full academic year, depending on qualifications and experience of the applicant; travel and accommodation inclusive. A letter of invitation is required.

    The Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Basel awards one doctoral scholarship in the fields of Modern Jewish History, Jewish Literature, Modern Jewish Intellectual History, or Jewish Cultural History per December 1st 2013 or by agreement. The award is specifically aimed at female applicants. Eligibility criteria: - an excellent higher university degree that qualifies for doctoral studies in Jewish Studies at the University of Basel - willingness to work at the Centre for Jewish Studies (apart from possible trips to archives etc.) - willingness to perform organisational and other tasks as part of the Centre team, possibly a teaching assignment Suggestions for a dissertation topic can be submitted along with the application but are not mandatory. Possible topics can also be discussed with the Centre administration if the scholarship is awarded to the applicant. A possible topic could be a project within the context of the intended collaboration of the Centre of Jewish Studies with the archive of the National Library of Israel. The scholarship will be awarded for 36 months and amounts to CHF 50'000 p.a. After 18 months of the intended funding period an interim report by the Centre administration on the status of the project will decide about the continued funding for the remaining duration of the stipend.

    The Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) is offering semester-long sabbaticals for the study, research, and teaching of classical liberal ideas including private property, free speech, individual rights, open markets and other precepts.
