The purpose of this NOFO is to reduce the overall burden of selected parasitic infections in the United States through public health practice and disease control activities. There are two components in the NOFO that address different parasitic infections, they are: Chagas disease and soil-transmitted helminths. This NOFO will continue the work of the Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria in CDC's Center for Global Health to strengthen health care providers' understanding, identification, treatment and prevention of parasitic infections in the U.S. One component of this NOFO will focus on using existing data to develop and disseminate strategies, educational tools, materials, and guidelines related to Chagas disease diagnosis and management in the United States to: improve healthcare provider knowledge and practices, increase testing and improve management of persons with or at risk of infection with the parasite that causes Chagas disease, increase awareness, availability and use of best practices, education training tools and materials. Every year, tens of thousands of refugees and 500,000 immigrants resettle to the U.S. from overseas. CDC's Division of Global Migration and Quarantine (DGMQ) is focused on improving the health among immigrants (including Special Immigrant Visa holders), asylees, parolees, survivors of victims of torture, human trafficking victims, and refugees through public health partnerships, science, and response. These newcomers can be particularly at-risk populations, often marginalized from public health surveillance, and from preventive treatment and health care in their home countries and countries of temporary asylum. DGMQ is looking for new approaches to outreach to these newcomer populations to analyze healthcare needs, improve health literacy, and better inform clinicians of best practices in caring for these individuals. This funding opportunity will advance the Centers of Excellence in Refugee Health to the Centers of Excellence in Newcomer Health to improve newcomer health outcomes, increase healthcare provider capacity, and to increase evidence-based health policy decisions around these populations. The Centers of Excellence in Refugee Health (2015-2020) developed a secure data repository of health information of recently arrived newcomers, assisted CDC in the revision of health screening guidelines for these populations, and created an online tool to assist clinicians with the CDC health screening guidelines.The Centers of Excellence in Newcomer Health will focus on two or more areas including 1) the use of the multi-state/regional surveillance network to determine which health issues are most prominent amongst newcomer populations in the short and longer term; 2) the development of clinical training tools, presentations, and webinars to inform US clinicians of the new CDC screening recommendations; 3) the development of health orientation materials for newcomers; and 4) the development and enhancement of health information materials for clinicians and newcomers.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is soliciting applications from eligible organizations to manage a cooperative agreement to help educate the medical community on how to recognize and treat pesticide-related health conditions. The long-term goal of the project is to achieve improved health for communities at risk for overexposure to pesticides through outreach, technical assistance and training to increase knowledge and awareness of environmental and occupational health risks. This is a national environmental and occupational health effort solicited by doctors, clinicians, and state health departments. With this award, EPA seeks to build on the progress of previous project titled "From the Fields to the Exam Room: Integrating the Recognition, Management and Prevention of Pesticide Poisonings into the Primary Care Setting." The publication "Recognition and Management of Pesticide Poisoning" was an earlier product of the initiative. EPA is seeking applications to (1) provide continuing education, training and technical assistance to relevant audiences; (2) update existing, and/or develop new materials and resource tools; (3) conduct outreach to existing and new audiences to use materials and tools; and (4) develop partnerships and a sustainable network of stakeholders. EPA expects to provide an estimated $500,000 annually, depending on the Agency's budget, for a total of up to $2,500,000 for five years (2017 through 2022).

Proposals will be evaluated only if they are for scientific study and experimentation directed toward advancing the state of the art or increasing knowledge and understanding. ARO has primary responsibility for ARL's extramural basic research programs, with specific research interests as described in Part II.A.2. The ARL Directorates, while having primary responsibility for ARL's in-house research programs, also manage select extramural basic research programs. The research interests of the Directorates are described in Part II.A.1. Although ARL Directorates will consider funding proposals for extramural research programs, they can fund only a modest number of proposals in a single fiscal year.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages innovative research to develop, characterize, and improve animal models, biological materials, and novel technologies to better understand human health and disease. This FOA also seeks projects aimed at improving the diagnosis and control of diseases that interfere with animal use for biomedical research. The proposed project must have broad application to multiple NIH Institutes or Centers (ICs) to align with the Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP) trans-NIH mission. The proposed studies must explore multiple body systems or evaluate diseases that impact multiple body systems. Applications that develop models focused on a specific disease or area of research, or only propose studies primarily relevant to a single NIH IC will be considered not responsive to this FOA and will not be accepted.

The purpose of the National Public Health Practice and Resource Centers (NPHPRC) on Health for Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Tourette syndrome (TS) is to fund centers that have the capacity to develop and provide health promotion programs and health communication and education resources for both professionals and the public regarding ADHD or TS. Program strategies should include 1) Planning and Leadership, 2) Information, Consultation and Referral, 3) Health Communication Programs and Materials Development, and 4) Education and Training. The NPHPRC's mission is to provide information, education and consultation about assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and health and well-being for children with ADHD or TS. Other target audiences in the NPHPRC's health promotion mission are health care professionals, education professionals, caregivers, and the public. Health promotion for children with ADHD or TS requires condition-specific information in addition to information and activities that address common aspects of living with ADHD or TS.

The Osler Library of the History of Medicine of McGill University sponsors a travel grant designed to assist scholars who need to travel and establish temporary residence in Montreal in order to use the resources of the Library. The Library has the largest collection of rare and secondary material in medical history in Canada, manuscripts and archives of such notables as Sir William Osler, Wilder Penfield, Norman Bethune and Maude Abbott, medical ephemera and 2,500 medical prints. Our monographic, serials and ephemera holdings are listed in the McGill Library Catalogue. The grant is available to historians, physicians, graduate students and others interested in medical history. It carries an award of $1,500 (Canadian), and must be held for 2-4 weeks during calendar year 2012. $2,000 will be made available to those requiring 4 weeks to complete their research.

The Library of Congress invites qualified scholars to apply for a post-doctoral fellowship in the field of health and spirituality. Made possible by a generous endowment from the International Center for the Integration of Health and Spirituality (ICIHS), the fellowship is named in honor of the Center's late founder, David B. Larson, an epidemiologist and psychiatrist, who focused on potentially relevant but understudied factors which might help in prevention, coping, and recovering from illness. The fellowship is designed to continue Dr. Larson's legacy of promoting meaningful, scholarly study of these two important and increasingly interrelated fields. It seeks to encourage the pursuit of scholarly excellence in the scientific study of the relation of religiousness and spirituality to physical, mental, and social health. The fellowship provides an opportunity for a period of six to twelve months of concentrated use of the collections of the Library of Congress, through full-time residency in the Library's John W. Kluge Center. The Kluge Center is located in the splendid Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library, and it furnishes attractive work and discussion space for its scholars as well as easy access to the Library's specialized staff and to the intellectual community of Washington. If necessary, special arrangements may be made with the National Library of Medicine for access to its materials as well.

Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) intends to solicit proposals from offerors having the capability to identify and quantify drugs and their metabolites in biological fluids and tissues such as plasma/serum, urine, sweat, saliva, hair and brain and other tissues. These drugs may include cannabinoids, opiates, amphetamines, l alpha acetyl methadol (LAAM), naltrexone, methadone, cocaine, phencyclidine, anabolic steroids, opioid peptides and peptidomimetics, benzodiazepines, and other drugs and their metabolites. The concentrations of such drugs and metabolites usually appear in biological materials at ng/g or ng/ml levels and therefore require the use of state-of-the-art chromatography methods for separation and highly sensitive instrumentations for identification and quantification, such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS).

Malawi faces chronic shortages, skill mix imbalances, and uneven geographical distribution of professionally qualified health workers such as medical doctors, clinical officers, nurse midwives, and allied health professionals. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide technical assistance (TA) to the Government of Malawi in support of the national HIV response through the secondment of technical assistance (Technical assistants recruited and posted to requesting institutions to continue support to the HIV program (TA positions for Care and Treatment, Logistics and Supply Chain, Monitoring and Evaluation)) to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other organizations, implementation of a fellowship program to develop technical and leadership capacity for HIV program management, provision of technical assistance to regulatory bodies (Medical Council of Malawi, Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi and Pharmacy Medicines and Poisons Board), and improvement of the quality of in-service and pre-service education for critical health worker cadres in collaboration with Ministry of Health and training institutions under the University of Malawi and the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications for research projects in linked Hubs of Interdisciplinary Research and Training in Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth). The overall objective of the GEOHealth program is to support the development of institutions in the Low- or Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) that will serve as regional hubs for collaborative research, data management, training, curriculum and outreach material development, and policy support around high priority local, national, and regional environmental and occupational health threats. Hubs are supported by two coordinated linked awards to 1) a LMIC institution for research and 2) a U.S. institution to coordinate research training. Together all regional hubs supported will form the GEOHealth Network, a platform for coordinated environmental and occupational health research and research training activities. An application submitted in response to this FOA for research projects must be harmonized with a linked application for related research training under RFA-TW-14-002 Hubs of Interdisciplinary Research and Training in Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) Research Training. This FOA is intended to support research that can only be conducted primarily in and/or by scientists of LMIC institutions.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) in Burma and the National Department of Health (NDOH) in Papua New Guinea (PNG) plan to rapidly expand high-quality antiretroviral treatment (ART) coverage in the coming years by increasing capacity at existing delivery sites and decentralizing selected services to provincial, district and township levels. In order to accomplish this expansion, the MOH and NDOH need strong laboratory systems that ensure high-quality HIV diagnostic and clinical monitoring of patients at the existing and new service delivery sites. This will require strengthening the capacity of Burma's National Health Laboratory (NHL) and Papua New Guinea's Central Public Health Laboratory (CPHL), as well as building capacity of sub-national laboratories and improving the laboratory network in these countries.This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will be awarded to a technical assistance (TA) partner to provide support to NHL and CPHL in several key areas, including: (1) developing and helping implement standard operating procedures, policies, guidelines, and training materials related to management and operations of national and sub-national laboratories; (2) building capacity of NHL and CPHL staff to validate, conduct, and ensure strong (and often cross-cutting) quality assurance and monitoring systems for HIV-related diagnostic and clinical monitoring activities; (3) strengthening the overall laboratory network in Burma and PNG that may include specimen transport and right-sizing of various classes of laboratories; and (4) providing supporting mentoring of NHL and NDOH staff and opportunities for professional development.

A. Purpose and Priorities The National Food Safety Training, Education, Extension, Outreach, and Technical Assistance Program will award grants that increase the understanding and adoption of established food safety standards, guidance, and protocols.
