The Law & Science Program considers proposals that address social scientific studies of law and law-like systems of rules, as well as studies of how science and technology are applied in legal contexts. The Program is inherently interdisciplinary and multi-methodological. Successful proposals describe research that advances scientific theory and understanding of the connections between human behavior and law, legal institutions, or legal processes; or the interactions of law and basic sciences, including biology, computer and information sciences, STEM education, engineering, geosciences, and math and physical sciences. Scientific studies of law often approach law as dynamic, interacting with multiple arenas, and with the participation of multiple actors. Fields of study include many disciplines, and often address problems including, though not limited, to: Crime, Violence, and Policing Cyberspace Economic Issues Environmental Science Evidentiary Issues Forensic Science Governance and Courts Human Rights and Comparative Law Information Technology Legal and Ethical Issues related to Science Legal Decision Making Legal Mobilization and Conceptions of Justice Litigation and the Legal Profession Punishment and Corrections Regulation and Facilitation of Biotechnology (e.g., Gene Editing, Gene Testing, Synthetic Biology) and Other Emerging Sciences and Technologies Use of Science in the Legal Processes

Since 1983, the AccessLex Institute has evolved to meet the ever-changing challenges and needs of the law students and institutions it serves by conducting and commissioning research that illuminates the latest data and evidence on the critical issues in legal education today. To that end, the institute is currently accepting applications for its Diversity Pipeline Research Grant Program from organizations working to enhance access to legal education for students from diverse backgrounds. With the ultimate goal of increasing knowledge that buttresses methods for increasing the enrollment and success of law students, the program supports current or proposed programs and initiatives aimed at helping college students and/or graduates from historically underrepresented racial and socioeconomic groups successfully matriculate into law school and the legal profession.

With this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals from qualified applicants to establish and operate a National Center on Forensics to: 1. Facilitate a partnership amongst: a. A full-service State department of forensic science with a medical examiner function; b. An accredited university of higher education with affiliate medical and law schools; and c. A statewide district attorneys association 2. For the purpose of: a. Providing medico-legal learning opportunities for medical students to train as deputy medical examiners/coroners in underserved rural areas; b. Provide forensic science and legal training to district attorneys, judges, and law enforcement; and c. Develop opportunities as appropriate amongst the designated partners to benefit current and future practitioners in the field

Through this Addendum to the 2014 Global Development Alliance (GDA) Annual Program Statement (APS) Number APS-OAA-14-000001, USAID/Rwanda is issuing a call for submission of concept papers focusing on nutrition, youth workforce development, education, and legal capacity development. The addendum is USAID's invitation to the private sector to jointly identify and define key challenges and collaborate with USAID in areas where our goals and interests align. It also defines broad areas in which we see the greatest potential for collaboration in alignment with USAID's strategic interests in Rwanda. The areas of greatest interest to USAID/Rwanda include increasing availability of and access to nutritious foods; increasing employment opportunities for youth, especially in rural areas; providing education and skills training to youth, specifically in the areas of English language and computing; and increasing the clarity and consistency in the interpretation and enforcement of laws and contracts. More details on each of these areas can be found in the addendum attached to this announcement.

The purpose of this program is to enhance the quality and quantity of specialized services available to assist victims of human trafficking, as defined by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, as amended. OVC is interested in supporting programs that focus on one or more of these priority areas: 1) housing services, 2) economic and leadership empowerment and/or education services, 3) mental health services, 4) substance abuse services, and 5) legal services. OVC expects to make up to 20 awards of up to $700,000, with an estimated total amount awarded of up to $14 million. OVC expects to make awards for a 36-month period of performance, to begin on October 1, 2018. OVC will conduct one pre-application webinar on May 31, 2018, from 3:00–4:00 p.m. e.t. INL has provided extensive assistance to the General Police Inspectorate and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to further increase the level of public trust in the Moldovan police force, which is a major goal specified in the 2016-2020 Police Development Plan. While levels of public trust have increased, there is an opportunity to achieve further progress. INL plans to expand its partnership to Moldovan schools to facilitate collaboration between police officers and teachers in reaching out to young people. To support further progress in Moldova, the U.S. Department of State has allocated $650,000 USD in FY 2016 Law Enforcement Reform Funds for a program to support Moldovan communities in preventing juvenile delinquency and raising awareness about civic rights through educational activities for Moldovan youth in coordination with Moldovan law enforcement. The activity will also help to facilitate a fundamental shift of thinking within the police, courts, and community towards restorative justice elements and raise awareness among Moldovan youth about widespread problems such as domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking in persons. INL is looking for creative and proactive community-based models that focus on bringing Moldovan communities and law enforcement together in the schools.
