The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21) funding opportunity supports the development of new research activities in categorical program areas. The R21 activity code is intended to encourage exploratory and developmental research projects by providing support for the early and conceptual stages of these projects. These studies may involve considerable risk but may lead to a breakthrough in a particular area, or to the development of novel techniques, agents, methodologies, models, or applications that could have a major impact on a field of biomedical, behavioral, or clinical research.

he Society for the History of Children and Youth will award two $500 grants for events that take place in 2015 to projects deemed worthy by the Outreach and Executive Committees of the SHCY. $500 grants will help defray expenses for speakers, workshops, and other scholarly events fully or partially devoted to the history of children and youth. Funded events cannot conflict with the SHCY's 8th Biennial Conference (June 24-26, 2015 in Vancouver, British Columbia).

The William T. Grant Scholars Program supports promising early-career researchers from diverse disciplines, who have demonstrated success in conducting high-quality research that has compelling relevance for theory, and policies or practices, affecting youth ages 5 to 25 in the United States or a vulnerable subpopulation of those youth, and are seeking to further develop and broaden their expertise. Candidates are nominated by a supporting institution and must submit five-year research plans that demonstrate creativity, intellectual rigor, and a commitment to continued professional development. Every year, four to six William T. Grant Scholars are selected and each receives $350,000 distributed over a five-year period.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage research that would develop and validate new screening methods for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) that can be used in infancy (0-12 months of age). This FOA uses the R21 grant mechanism, while RFA- MH-19-120 uses the R01 grant mechanism. Applicants with strong preliminary data proposing validation, refinement or final stages of testing of existing tools or methods may wish to use the R01 mechanism. Pilot or exploratory projects with minimal preliminary data, or those proposing early-stage feasibility testing, may be most appropriate for this FOA (R21 mechanism).

The New York City-based William T. Grant Foundation is accepting applications for its Research Grants on Improving the Use of Research Evidence program. The Best Buy Foundation seeks to build better futures for youth through technology. To that end, the foundation is inviting proposals for community grants. grants of up to $15,000 will be awarded in support of equitable, innovative, and impact-driven programs focused on enhancing the lives of youth between the ages of 13 to 18 through technology-enabled curricula. Programs should include hands-on learning opportunities that lead to skills development, engage youth in experimenting and interacting with the latest technologies, and close the digital skills gap; provide teens from underresourced communities with access to innovative technologies and help them become fluent in technological fields while developing skills that better prepare them for future education and career success; and incorporate cutting-edge technology such as computers, digital cameras, video cameras, and professional software, including but not limited to audio production (including music mixing and recording), website development, computer maintenance and repair, UX/UI (user experience/user interface), graphic design and photography 2, cybersecurity, mobile and game app development, 3D animation, programing and coding, virtual reality/ augmented reality, robotics, and green technology.

THE ADMINISTRATION for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth and Families' Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) announces the availability of funds under the Transitional Living Program (TLP) and Maternity Group Home (MGH). THE PURPOSE of FYSB’s TLP and MGH grant programs are to implement, enhance, and/or support effective strategies for successful transition to sustainable living for runaway and homeless youth ages 16 to under 22 and/or pregnant and parenting youth ages 16 to under 22 and their dependent child(ren). Both projects must provide safe, stable, and appropriate shelter for 18 months and, under extenuating circumstances, can be extended to 21 months and provide comprehensive services that supports the transition of homeless youth to self-sufficiency and stable, independent living. Through the provision of shelter and an array of comprehensive services, TLP youth will realize improvements in four core outcome areas (i.e., safe and stable housing, education/employment, permanent connections, and social and emotional well-being.) GRANTS AWARDED under this announcement will have a start date of May 1, 2018 and the project period will be 41 months. The initial award will be for 17 months and run from May 1, 2018 through September 29, 2019.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) announces the availability of funds for the fiscal year 2018 Direct Services for Survivors of Torture (DS SOT) grant program. The purpose of the DS SOT program is to increase access to strengths-based, trauma-informed services that assist survivors of torture and their families in the healing and recovery process. Under this grant program, direct services are provided to persons who have been tortured on foreign soil under the color of law. The program offers holistic and integrated services including medical, psychological, legal, and social work. All of these services are provided either directly by the grantee or indirectly through partner organizations or affiliates.

For 2019, at least three grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to schools, school districts, and nonprofit organizations in support of initiatives and programs designed to advance the academic development of underserved students. To be eligible, applicants must be either a public school or not-for-profit organization in the U.S. serving students from pre-K through 12th grade. Applications will be evaluated on the extent to which the award will benefit students who face systemic barriers to academic opportunities, including students who identify as black or African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, or Asian/Pacific Islander; students learning English and speaking a language other than English fluently; and students experiencing economic disadvantage. Programs also will be evaluated based on evidence base, equity focus, cultural relevance, and academic focus. Use of NWEA products and services is not required for eligibility and will not be considered when selecting grant recipients.

: The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit proposals for a grant to develop and expand text and chat-based capabilities for child maltreatment prevention, resource sharing, detection, and reporting. In doing this work, the grantee is required to (1) Determine best practices and protocols pertaining to the use of text and chat-based technology within the child abuse and neglect reporting context; (2) Identify effective strategies for appropriate communication, identity verification, and privacy protection for youth who may be victims of maltreatment; and (3) Develop strategies for effectively sharing resources with youth who may be experiencing maltreatment. The protocols and strategies should be widely disseminated and applicable to national hotline environments. Applicants must possess the capacity to coordinate with hotlines administered by the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) such as the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the National Human Trafficking Hotline. This grant will be for one 24-month project period.

The goal of Grief Reach, administered by the National Alliance for Grieving Children with funding from the New York Life Foundation, is to provide support for children's bereavement programs in order to expand their reach to underserved youth populations. In 2018, Grief Reach is offering the following two programs: Community Expansion Grants, ranging from $15,000 to $100,000, fund program expansion to include bereaved children and teens not currently served by existing services. Capacity Building Grants of $10,000 help nonprofit organizations to secure the professional assistance necessary to enhance organizational capacity and address issues of organizational development and effectiveness. The Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation in West Bloomfield, Michigan, is dedicated to transforming lives in profoundly positive ways through grants focused on health, youth and animal welfare. The foundation's MDS Research Fund (MDSRF) seeks to advance the understanding and treatment of Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and related blood disorders and expands the foundation's investments in support of cutting-edge basic, translational, and clinical MDS research with the potential to establish future standards of care and, ultimately, a cure. The foundation will consider proposals in two categories from individuals at university, college, hospital, or laboratory institutions for support of research in MDS or related disorders: Early Career Awards of up to $125,000 per year over two years will be awarded to eligible investigators who are less than five years from completion of their fellowship training or postdoctoral program and/or have not previously been awarded an RO1 grant or its equivalent. This notice solicits applications for Strengthen the Evidence for Maternal and Child Health Programs, the purpose of which is to improve the health and well-being of women and children in the United States by supporting the implementation of evidence-based/evidence-informed strategies for the Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services Block Grant program (hereafter referred to as Title V MCH Block Grant). Under this announcement, the Institute of Education Sciences (Institute) intends to award one grant under this program to fund the Lead of a CTE Network, which is to carry out the requirements under section 114(d)(4) of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act to establish a national research center to carry out scientifically based research on career and technical education programs. The CTE Network will conduct research on CTE through projects funded by other Institute grant competitions. The goal of the CTE Network is to support and expand the causal research base on CTE at the secondary and/or postsecondary level specifically through research on whether and how CTE practices, programs, and policies affect student education outcomes.
