The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program supports the success of all children who are deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH) in the United States by helping to ensure they receive a newborn screening, early diagnosis, and timely intervention services. Without timely screening, diagnosis and intervention, children who are D/HH lose valuable time in gaining the skills that will put them on a trajectory to have language on par with their hearing peers in kindergarten and be ready to succeed in school. Additionally, among children who are D/HH, delays in language development are more difficult to remediate with late diagnosis and intervention. While collaborative efforts by CDC, states, and other partners have helped lead to the early identification of thousands of children who are D/HH each year, their developmental and language outcomes are often unknown, and these data are not routinely collected by CDC or state EHDI programs. Furthermore, it is currently unclear what actions beyond early identification should be taken by public health to help reduce adverse consequences of hearing loss and ensure that children who are D/HH are ready for success in early childhood. The current lack of public health capacity to document and assess the intervention services and associated outcomes of early-identified children who are D/HH at the state and national level makes it challenging to: Assess the developmental progress to ensure all children who are D/HH are achieving age-appropriate milestones and are ready for success in early childhood; Identify strategies, in addition to those beyond early identification, to help assess and reduce adverse consequences of hearing loss; Assess and document the success and impact of EHDI activities across the United States.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to promote the development and initial clinical validation of objective biological measures to be used for prognosing, and monitoring recovery of adolescents who either clinically present with or are at risk for developing prolonged/persistent concussive symptoms following exposure to repetitive head impacts and/or concussion.  Resultant biological measures should be incorporated into risk stratification algorithms to inform clinical care and patient stratification for future clinical trials.  A critical feature of this FOA includes the broad sharing of clinical, neuroimaging, physiological, and biospecimen data to further advance research in the area of persistent concussive symptoms in early and middle adolescent (EMA; ages 11-17 years old) populations.

The goal of this solicitation is to prevent and reduce youth gang involvement and youth gang violence. Overarching objectives and deliverables include:  Reduce and sustain reductions in community youth violence, particularly gun and gang violence, and victimization.  Prevent violence and promote healing from victimization and exposure to violence.  Convene a task force or working group (this may be an existing group) that meets regularly throughout the project period to identify and address service gaps and barriers, and use funding for a wide variety of intervention and suppression strategies targeting youth who are in a gang or at risk of joining a gang.

This funding opportunity announcement from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) invites applications for a National Center of Excellence for the Prevention of Childhood Agricultural Injury. Applicants are expected to propose multi-disciplinary approaches to develop partnerships for implementing prevention and intervention activities and to serve as a leader in research translation and research-to-practice for the protection of children in agricultural environments throughout the United States. This notice announces the opportunity to apply for funding under the U5D MCH Pediatric Research Network (PedsRN) Program. The purpose of this program is to establish and maintain an interdisciplinary, national, multi-site research platform for scientific collaboration and infrastructure building. The Research Network will provide national leadership for applied and translational practice-based pediatric research and interventions to advance the evidence base for pediatric practice. PedsRN will accomplish this by supporting: collaborative practice-based research aimed at enhancing primary care practice, the development of evidence-based guidelines based on network research findings, and dissemination of findings in order to accelerate the translation of research into practice. The Research Network will identify effective practices to promote children's health in primary care settings. This will be accomplished through the establishment and ongoing development of a national network of primary care and child health professionals. These health care professionals will collaborate in the development and implementation of research designed to increase knowledge of pediatric care.

Through this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites applications describing research focused on improving care and health-related quality of life for childhood, and adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors. Specifically, this FOA solicits mechanistic, observational, and intervention applications that focus on six key domains: (1) disparities in survivor outcomes; (2) barriers to follow-up care (e.g. access, adherence); (3) impact of familial, socioeconomic, and other environmental factors on survivor outcomes; (4) indicators for long-term follow-up needs related to risk for late effects, recurrence, and subsequent cancers; (5) risk factors and predictors of late/long-term effects of cancer treatment; and (6) development of targeted interventions to reduce the burden of cancer for pediatric/AYA survivors.

This solicitation seeks applications for funding to design, pilot test, and implement a national survey of law enforcement agencies in order to illuminate the magnitude of youth gang activity and law enforcement responses to it. Study objectives will include: 1) developing a sampling plan and collecting data from a nationally representative sample of U.S. law enforcement agencies; 2) producing accurate and reliable national estimates of gang presence, gang membership, gang-related crime in urban, suburban, and rural communities across the United States; 3) acquiring detailed data about the characteristics of these crimes; 4) analyzing how the prevalence and characteristics of such crimes, as well as gang presence and membership have changed over time; and 5) obtaining information about law enforcement strategies for gang prevention, intervention and suppression.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit applications for the NIAID Childhood Asthma in Urban Settings Clinical Research Network Clinical Research Centers (CAUSE-CRCs). The CAUSE-CRCs wlill conduct both network-wide and site-specific clinical studies and trials with the ultimate goal of developing effective asthma treatment or prevention approaches applicable to children residing in low-income urban settings. This NOFO is intended to increase the capacity and capability of newborn screening laboratories to test for newborn screening conditions as recommended by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children. The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Head Start (OHS) announces the availability of approximately $10.2 million to be competitively awarded for the purpose of operating a National Center on Early Childhood Development, Teaching, and Learning (NC DTL). The NC DTL will provide training and technical assistance (TTA) that reflects current evidence, is research-informed, and promotes best practices. The NC DTL TTA efforts will improve early childhood development and promote school readiness through effective teaching, home visiting, and inclusive practices that support children who may experience a broad range of adversity. Because of the complex work the NC DTL will conduct, the grantee will be expected to bring together knowledgeable subrecipients within the field of early childhood development, teaching, and learning.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Regional Contracting Office in Kyiv, Ukraine is seeking applications from qualified U.S. or Non-U.S. non-profit or for-profit Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and other qualified non-USG organizations for funding of an activity entitled "Ukraine National Identity Through Youth (UNITY) Activity." The purpose of the Activity is to foster vested ownership among young people in Ukraine's democratic, European future by further mobilizing youth leadership of a values-based conception of Ukrainian identity grounded in innovation, engagement, and pluralism. This will be achieved through the following interconnected objectives: 1) Youth innovation, entrepreneurship, and career preparedness expand economic opportunities; 2) Youth broaden their engagement in civic and community problem-solving; 3) Youth drive Ukraine's pluralism and respect for diversity; and 4) Research and learning on youth-related data, trends, and approaches inform youth policy and programming.

The Administration for Children and Families has funding available for a cooperative agreement to support a grantee as a trusted source for research and policy related information for the child care and early education field. The grantee will establish and operate a website for the Child Care and Early Education Research Connections database (hereafter referred to as "Research Connections"). The interactive website (http://www.researchconnections.org) will house a comprehensive and up-to-date database of resources derived from rigorous research including scholarly peer-reviewed research and 'gray' literature (i.e., rigorous research published as policy briefs, state and federal government reports, foundation reports, etc.) and publicly available assessment instruments relevant to child care and early education policy and practice (i.e., community based child care serving children birth through 13-years, Early Care and Education (ECE) programs, home-based child care, family child care, Head Start, public Pre-kindergarten (Pre-K), and after-school programs).

The Runaway and Homeless Youth Program's Basic Center Program (BCP) provides temporary shelter and counseling services to youth who have left home without permission of their parents or guardians, have been forced to leave home, or other homeless youth who might otherwise end up in the law enforcement or in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems. BCPs work to establish or strengthen community-based programs that meet the immediate needs of runaway and homeless youth and their families. BCPs provide youth under 18 years of age with emergency shelter, food, clothing, counseling and referrals for health care. BCPs can provide up to 21 days of shelter for youth and seeks to reunite young people with their families, whenever possible, or to locate appropriate alternative placements. Additional services may include: street-based services; home-based services for families with youth at risk of separation from the family; drug abuse education and prevention services; and at the request of runaway and homeless youth, testing for sexually transmitted diseases.

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF), Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) will award one cooperative agreement on a competitive basis for a period of three years to operate the Runaway and Homeless Youth National Communication System (NCS) Program.The NCS Program is a dedicated toll-free, U.S. national communication system that provides information, referral services, crisis intervention, prevention approaches, and communication services to vulnerable, at-risk, and runaway and homeless youth and their families or legal guardians. The purpose of the NCS is to a) prevent youth from running away and becoming homeless, and b) link youth with a family member or guardian, and/or an available resource that can provide and/or assist the youth in acquiring needed services.

The Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood is intended to be an incubator of promising research and development projects that may ultimately enhance the development, health, safety, education or quality of life of children from infancy through seven years of age across the country.Each of its grants is made with the expectation that a successful project outcome will be of significant interest to other investigators or developers, within the grantee's field of endeavor, and will be amenable to beneficial application or adaptation elsewhere. The purpose of this priority is to fund a cooperative agreement to establish and operate a national center to provide technical assistance (TA) directly to States, educational service agencies (ESAs), local educational agencies (LEAs), and charter management organizations in those States to help create the conditions necessary for educators to make full and sustained use of instructional and leadership practices supported by evidence (as defined in this notice).
