Proposed fellowships must fit the Grant Foundation's research interests. Specifically, the Foundation funds studies that enhance the understanding of how youth settings work, how they affect youth development, and how they can be improved; and when, how, and under what conditions research evidence is used in policy and practices that affect youth, and how its use can be improved.

To be eligible, applicants must be influential mid-career practitioners, policy makers, or researchers, and propose one or two tax-exempt private and governmental organizations that are willing to "house" and mentor the fellow. For the purposes of this program, a mid-career professional is defined as having eight to twenty years of cumulative experience in his/her current role as a researcher, policy maker, or practitioner.

The mission of the Captain Planet Foundation is to promote and support high-quality educational programs that help children and youth to understand and appreciate our world through learning experiences that engage them in active hands-on projects to improve the environment in their schools and communities. Grants are intended to serve as a means of bringing environment-based education to schools and inspire youth and communities to participate in community service through environmental stewardship activities. On occasion, the Foundation will fund unique and innovative projects that do not precisely match the grant guidelines but otherwise promote its mission to support hands-on environmental activities.

The Best Buy Foundation seeks to build better futures for youth through technology. To that end, the Foundation is inviting proposals for community grants. Grants of up to $15,000 will be awarded in support of equitable, innovative, and impact-driven programs focused on enhancing the lives of youth between the ages of 13 to 18 through technology-enabled curricula. Programs should include hands-on learning opportunities that lead to skills development, engage youth in experimenting and interacting with the latest technologies, and close the digital skills gap; provide teens from underresourced communities with access to innovative technologies and help them become fluent in technological fields while developing skills that better prepare them for future education and career success; and incorporate cutting-edge technology such as computers, digital cameras, video cameras, and professional software, including but not limited to audio production (including music mixing and recording), website development, computer maintenance and repair, UX/UI (user experience/user interface), graphic design and photography 2, cybersecurity, mobile and game app development, 3D animation, programing and coding, virtual reality/ augmented reality, robotics, and green technology.

One of the oldest American foundations, the Russell Sage foundation was established by Mrs. Margaret Olivia Sage in 1907 for "the improvement of social and living conditions in the United States." In pursuit of this mission, the foundation now dedicates itself to strengthening the methods, data, knowledge, and theoretical core of the social sciences as a means of diagnosing social problems and improving social policies. The foundation's program on Social Inequality supports research on the social, economic, political, and labor market consequences of rising economic inequalities in the United States. The program seeks Letters of Inquiry for investigator-initiated research projects that will broaden current understanding of the causes and consequences of rising economic inequalities. Priority will be given to projects that use innovative data or methodologies to address important questions about inequality. Examples of the kinds of topics that are of interest include, but are not limited to, economic well-being, equality of opportunity, and intergenerational mobility; the political process and the resulting policies; psychological and/or cultural change; education; labor markets; child development and child outcomes; neighborhoods and communities; families, family structure, and family formation; and other forms of inequality.

The Braitmayer Foundation in Marion, Massachusetts, is accepting proposals from nonprofit organizations using innovative practices to enhance the quality of K-12 education in the United States. Of particular interest to the Foundation are: curricular and school reform initiatives; preparation and professional development opportunities for teachers, particularly those designed to encourage people of high ability and from diverse backgrounds to enter and remain in K-12 teaching. Grant requests for up to $35,000 from organizations focused on K-12 education in the United States will be considered. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2019.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has issued a Request for Proposals for its Evidence for Action: Making Health a Shared Value program. The purpose of the program is to improve the Foundation's understanding of the Action Area 1 drivers and outcomes related to health, well-being, and equity, particularly with respect to disadvantaged children and families. To that end, the Foundation seeks evidence on the extent to which Action Area 1 drivers - mindsets and expectations, sense of community, and civic engagement - can be changed through intervention at the individual or population levels, resulting in better health, well-being, and equity outcomes. An ideal study to provide such evidence would experimentally manipulate a driver, measure changes in that driver, and then measure resulting health impacts. However, RWJF recognizes that a variety of constraints could preclude such a design within the parameters of this funding opportunity. Consequently, the Foundation has established two key aims for funding through the program. 1) Aim 1: To test the effects of specific interventions on the Action Area 1 drivers, in order to determine the extent to which they can be changed; and 2) Aim 2: To establish evidence of causal relationships between Action Area 1 drivers and health outcomes.

The Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation in West Bloomfield, Michigan, is dedicated to transforming lives in profoundly positive ways through grants focused on health, youth and animal welfare. The Foundation's MDS Research Fund (MDSRF) seeks to advance the understanding and treatment of Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and related blood disorders and expands the Foundation's investments in support of cutting-edge basic, translational, and clinical MDS research with the potential to establish future standards of care and, ultimately, a cure. The Foundation will consider proposals in two categories from individuals at university, college, hospital, or laboratory institutions for support of research in MDS or related disorders:

The MAXIMUS Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations and charities that share our commitment in helping disadvantaged populations and underserved communities. The Foundation Board of Directors makes funding decisions through a competitive, biannual grantmaking process, with an emphasis on programs that promote personal growth and community development. Submission deadlines for grant proposals are January 31 and August 31 for the spring and fall grant making cycles, respectively.

The Lalor Foundation is accepting applications for programs designed to educate young women about human reproduction in order to broaden and enhance their options in life. Through its Anna Lalor Burdick Program, the Foundation seeks to empower young women through education about healthy reproduction. The program focuses in particular on young women who have inadequate access to information regarding sexual and reproductive health, including comprehensive and unbiased information on contraception and pregnancy termination. Grants of up to $35,000 will be awarded in support of programs for young women, particularly those who are disadvantaged by poverty, discrimination, geographic isolation, lack of specific sex education, hostile public policy, or other factors leading to inadequate reproductive health. Areas of interest include programs that include a comprehensive approach to sexual and reproductive health education; novel ideas, including innovative methods of delivering information; and programs that incorporate advocacy or policy change.

The Papoose Conservation Wildlife Foundation in Del Mar, California, is unique in that it focuses on both wildlife science and children's experiences in nature and seeks to merge these two missions to see children become the scientists of tomorrow working to preserve wildlife diversity. To advance this mission, the Foundation is inviting applications for its Children in Nature and Applied Conservation grants programs. Through the program, grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded in two separate categories: Children in Nature - Programs aimed at providing opportunities for children to explore nature or expand children's appreciation of nature. Programs may include classroom learning but the majority of the program must take place in a natural environment. Preference is given to projects connecting children to lesser-recognized species or habitats. Applied Conservation - Projects focused on the conservation of free-ranging wildlife or plant species in their natural habitat. Work may include the protection of species and/or habitats. Preference is given to projects focused on lesser-recognized species.

To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for research projects aimed at identifying solutions to common everyday issues and problems in the field of children's health and nutrition. Of particular interest to the foundation are projects offering substantial promise of meaningful advances in prevention and treatment of diseases and those with broad and general applicability.

The Eos Foundation seeks an equitable and just society where the basic human needs of all individuals are met, and where children grow up well-nourished, healthy, and with opportunities for high-quality education and the skills/tools to achieve economic self-sufficiency. In support of this mission, the Foundation is accepting applications for its After the Bell Breakfast Launch Grant Opportunities program. The benefits of the ATB breakfast program include lower absentee and tardy rates, fewer morning nurses visits and behavioral problems, and higher academic achievement. Under this RFP, technical assistance and one-time grants of $10,000 will be awarded to eligible, high-poverty schools/districts and charter public schools in Massachusetts for the launch or expansion of ATB programming. Districts may request district-wide grants.

The American Psychological Foundation is accepting applications for its APF Annette Urso Rickel Foundation Dissertation Award for Public Policy. The $1,000 scholarship supports dissertation research on public policy that has the potential to improve services for children and families facing psychosocial issues such as prevention of child abuse, school programs for children with psychological issues, services for youth in the criminal justice system, healthy parenting, math and science education, and contributions to the adoption of sound policy affecting children, youth, and families. To be eligible, applicants must be a graduate student in psychology enrolled full time in a regionally accredited institution located in the U.S. or Canada; have completed his/her doctoral candidacy, including dissertation approval by a doctoral committee; and have demonstrated research competence and commitment to the field.

The AABC Foundation, was established in 1994 by American Association of Birth Centers to advance public knowledge and understanding of issues related to family-centered childbirth. The Foundation raises funds to support the advancement of the AABC birth center model as the standard to improve maternity and women's health care. Based on wellness model of pregnancy and birth, the birth center is a homelike facility, operating with a healthcare system. Birth centers are guided by principles of prevention of complication, sensitivity to the needs of the individual family, safety for both mother and baby, appropriate use of medical intervention, and cost effective care. Birth centers provide family-centered care for healthy women before, during, and after normal pregnancy, labor, and birth. To advance its mission, the Foundation will award grants of up to $5,000 to support research projects on issues related to the birth center model of care. The program is open to individuals or organizations and nonprofit status or sponsorship is not required. However, applicants must demonstrate capacity and a plan to complete the research in accordance with the project's timeline.

The mission of the Marcie Mazzola Foundation is to help better the lives of abused and at-risk children, and to increase advocacy and community awareness about the needs of children. Since its inception, the Foundation has hosted innovative fundraising events and distributed the proceeds to organizations that support its mission.

The Finish Line Youth Foundation, the charitable arm of athletic products retailer Finish Line, provides funding to support youth athletic programs and sports-based camps, especially those serving disadvantaged children and those with special needs. The Foundation provides grants in three categories: Programmatic Grants, Legacy Grants, and Founder's Grants.

The Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood supports creative, innovative projects and programs designed to significantly enhance the development, health, safety, education, and/or quality of life for children from infancy through five years of age. The Foundation provides funding in the areas of early childhood welfare, early childhood education and play, and parenting education.
