This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) seeks applications from institutions/organizations for a cooperative agreement research grant (UM1) to conduct a clinical trial across three or more Low and Middle Income Country (LMIC) settings to test improved stove and fuel interventions on health outcomes in exposed populations. In addition, each application must include a biomarker center element for the development and validation of clinical, physiological, chemical, biochemical and/or microbiological markers of: a) exposure, and b) pathophysiological responses.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide opportunities for eligible small business concerns (SBCs) to submit STTR grant applications to develop interactive digital media science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) resources that address student career choice and health and medicine topics for: (1) pre-kindergarten to grade 12 (P-12) students and pre- and in-service teachers ("Teachers") or (2) Informal science education (ISE), i.e., outside the classroom, audiences. Interactive digital media (IDM) are defined as products and services on digital computer-based systems which respond to the user's actions by presenting content such as text, moving image, animation, video, audio, and video games. There is a large body of evidence that IDM technology has the potential to support learning in a variety of contexts from primary and secondary schools, to universities, adult education and workplace training. IDM is widely used to train, educate, and encourage behavioral changes in a virtual world format where progressive learning, feedback on success and user control are combined into an interactive and engaging experience. It is anticipated that this STTR FOA will facilitate the translation of new or existing health and medicine-based, P-12 STEM curricula and museum exhibits into educational Interactive Digital Media STEM (IDM STEM) resources that will provide a hands-on, inquiry-based and learning-by-doing experience for students, teachers and the community.

The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command's mission is to responsively and responsibly create, develop, deliver, and sustain medical capabilities for the Warfighter. The AIMM initiative was created to accelerate transformational biomedical research for our Armed Forces and Nation. The mission of the AIMM initiative is to encourage, identify, and enable innovative research that leads to cross-cutting solutions to military health threats. The AIMM Research Award is intended to support highly creative and conceptually innovative high-risk research with the potential to accelerate critical discoveries or major advancements that will significantly impact military health and medicine. AIMM initiative funding supports novel research concepts and other efforts that initiate or enhance potential game-changers that may not be supported by other funding mechanisms or core programs.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to stimulate developmental research evaluating the effect of care planning on self-management of late effects of cancer therapy; adherence to medications, cancer screening, and health behavior guidelines; utilization of follow-up care; survivors' health and psychosocial outcomes. How organizational-level factors influence the implementation of care planning and its associated costs is also of interest. Specifically, the FOA aims to stimulate research that will: 1) develop and test metrics for evaluating the impact of survivorship care planning; 2) evaluate the impact of survivorship care planning on cancer survivors' morbidity, self-management and adherence to care recommendations, utilization of follow-up care; 3) evaluate effects of planning on systems outcomes, such as associated costs and impact on providers and organizations implementing the care planning; and 4) identify models and processes of care that promote effective survivorship care planning. The ultimate goal of this FOA is to generate a body of science that will inform the development and delivery of interventions that improve follow-up care for cancer survivors.

Our goal is to connect businesses and organizations that are best-positioned to address critical needs during this public health crisis, often in innovative or unexpected ways. Then we support those businesses to do what they do best: scale products and services that can help the American public. In the immediate term, we are keenly focused on working with companies-large and small-to spur development of personal protective equipment for medical and non-medical use, novel testing solutions, widely-accessible therapeutics and health services to address the needs of underserved communities. As the crisis evolves, we will continue to be responsive by tackling other urgent priorities.

Supported by the American Heart Association Strategically Focused Research Networks, there is a two-year postdoctoral fellowship opportunity listed by institution for the funded research networks. Fellows with a strong interest in either prevention, hypertension, disparities, women's health, or heart failure-related to cardiovascular disease and/or stroke research, commitment to multi-disciplinary team science approach at the population, clinical and basic science levels and excellent communication skills. This announcement solicits applications for two (2) separate competitions, HRSA-17-013 Autism Field-Initiated Innovative Research Studies and HRSA-17-014 Autism Longitudinal Data Project.  The purpose of the Autism Field-Initiated Innovative Research Studies and the Autism Longitudinal Data Project competitions are to support the conduct of empirical research that advances the evidence base on interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), with a special focus on addressing the needs of underserved populations.  These competitions will address the critical need that exists for research on the barriers to screening, diagnosis, and receipt of evidence-based interventions.

Most survey-based prevalence estimates of type 1 diabetes among adults have been based on self-reported information about a young age at diagnosis (e.g.,30 years and 40 years) and insulin use within a year of diagnosis. However, this estimation approach misses type 1 diabetes in adults with older age of onset and may misclassify some cases of type 2 diabetes as type 1 if insulin use begins soon after diagnosis. The major goal of this project is to evaluate the validity of survey questions (or algorithms based on them) to distinguish between adults (aged 18 years of age) with type 1 and type 2 diabetes in a representative sample of adult diabetic patients in a diabetes patient registry or database. Using a gold standard, validity will be assessed by examining the sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive value of algorithms to identify type of diabetes across demographic strata such as age, sex, and race. A secondary goal is to validate definitions of type of diabetes using electronic health records.

The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) announced today that it plans to award up to $105 million to support research consortia investigating the effect, and the potential associated impact, of hydrocarbon releases on the environment and public health, as well as to develop improved spill mitigation, oil detection, characterization, and remediation technologies.  The funding under this program, known as RFP-IV, will support research in the Gulf of Mexico conducted by consortia of four or more institutions between 2015 and 2017.  It is anticipated that each team will be funded at levels between $1 million and $7.5 million per year.
