    Miami faculty should notify Associate Provost Jim Oris of their interest in the following RFP. ---------- CGS invites doctoral-granting member institutions to apply to participate in Understanding PhD Career Pathways for Program Improvement, a multi-institution effort to collect and use data on PhD career pathways, funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the National Science Foundation (NSF #1661272). This is an important opportunity to deepen your institution's understanding of the career goals and outcomes of its PhDs; communicate your support for the career diversity of PhDs; make evidence-based interventions that support the success of PhDs and the recruitment of future students; and access anonymized benchmarking data compiled from other project partners.   Awards: Option 1: Humanities Only. Provides awards of $30,000 each to support implementation of surveys of humanities PhD students and alumni over a period of twenty-four months. Supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; 15 awards available. Please indicate in your proposal why a humanities-only project aligns with your institutional mission.   Option 2: STEM Only. Provides awards of $50,000 to each to support implementation of surveys of STEM PhD students and alumni over a period of thirty-six months. Supported by the National Science Foundation; 15 awards available. Please indicate in your proposal why a STEM-only project aligns with your institutional mission.   Option 3: Combined Proposal. If an institution meets the eligibility requirements for both the Humanities and STEM awards, CGS strongly encourages the submission of a combined proposal. Institutions selected to participate in this category will receive a total award amount of $80,000.

    The Office of the Science Advisor (OSA), Office of Research and Development (ORD) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking 1 or more individuals to will work directly with the  Science Advisor for the Administrator and the Deputy Director for the Office of the Science Advisor.  The Office of Science advisor (OSA), part of the Office of Research and Development (ORD) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency headquarters located in Washington, DC, provides leadership in  cross-Agency science and science policy development and implementation to ensure the best possible use of science at the Agency. These efforts help ensure regulations are interpreted and enforced in a manner consistent with the science supporting them and will strengthen EPA's overall scientific performance. The mission of the OSA is to provide leadership and serve as an honest broker for crossAgency science, science policy, and technology issues. The duty location is Washington, DC. Work is expected to begin in September or October, 2013 and have a one (1) year period. Two (2) additional one (1) year optional periods may be exercised,  depending on performance and need. The total duration of the order, including base and any option periods and other extension shall not exceed thirty six months or 3 years. The student contractor will be  paid by the hour for a maximum of 1928 hours annually. The total value of the order (base and all option periods) shall not exceed $150,000.00.

    The purpose of this RFA is to encourage studies on reproductive health, fertility and fertility preservation/treatment options in patients born with a serious chronic condition who can now expect to survive into adulthood healthy enough to consider their reproductive health and fertility options. The underlying pathophysiology of diseases such as sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, and cystic fibrosis, among others, and/or the cumulative effects of their treatment, can compromise reproductive health. This RFA encourages teams of scientists with expertise in the realm of the particular disease and in reproductive health and fertility to work together to understand the effects of the diseases and/or their treatments on parameters of reproductive health, and to identify ways to preserve, protect, or treat and reproductive deficits in these patients.

    The Mentored Clinical Research Award (MCRA) for new investigators is funded by a grant from the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) to the Parkinson Study Group (PSG).     The OPORP Orthotics and Prosthetics Outcomes Research Award (OPORA) is being offered for the first time in FY14. It is intended to support research that evaluates the comparative effectiveness of and functional outcomes associated with prosthetic and orthotic clinical interventions and/or other rehabilitation interventions for Service Members and Veterans who have undergone limb salvage or limb amputation. The goal is to improve our understanding of and ultimately advance the implementation of the most effective prescriptions for prosthetic and orthotic devices, treatment, rehabilitation, and secondary health effect prevention options for patients, clinicians, other caregivers, and policymakers. Proposed projects should be designed to provide outcomes data regarding orthotic and prosthetic devices, and/or related clinical interventions and must include the anticipated effect on patient care metrics. Collaboration with military researchers and clinicians is encouraged, as are joint Department of Defense (DoD)-VA studies, including longitudinal outcome studies. Studies are sought that: * Compare different patient care approaches. * Include patient-centric outcome assessments. * Have the potential to generate new knowledge that can be developed into new clinical practice guidelines, and/or new prescription algorithms for prosthetic and orthotic devices. * Have the potential to develop new technology for improved prosthetic and orthotic devices, therefore improving patient outcomes. * Provide information on quality of life, reintegration, and/or return to duty/return to work as it pertains to those patients who use a prosthetic or orthotic device due to limb trauma. All applications must demonstrate direct relevance to Service Members and Veterans with traumatic extremity injury and/or amputation using prosthetics and orthotic devices.     The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to promote innovative research on music and health with an emphasis on developing music interventions aimed at understanding their mechanisms of action and clinical applications with little or no preliminary data. Because of the need for a multidisciplinary approach, collaborations among basic researchers, translational science researchers, music intervention experts, other clinical researchers, music health professionals, and technology development researchers are encouraged. The FOA utilizes a phased R61/R33 funding mechanism to support mechanistic research and to evaluate the clinical relevance of music interventions. The R61 phase will provide funding to either investigate the biological mechanisms or behavioral processes underlying music interventions in relevant animal models, healthy human subjects, and/or clinical populations, or can be used to develop innovative technology or approaches to enhance music intervention research. The second R33 phase will provide support for further mechanistic investigations, intervention development, or pilot clinical studies. The pilot clinical studies may focus on intervention optimization/refinement, feasibility, adherence, and/or identification of appropriate outcome measures to inform future clinical research. Transition from the R61 to the R33 phase of the award will depend on successful completion of pre-specified milestones established in the R61.
