International Research Network Connections | NSF - National Science Foundation - 0 views

    The International Research Network Connections (IRNC) program supports high-performance network connectivity required by international science and engineering research and education collaborations involving the NSF research community. NSF expects to make 1-2 awards to link U.S. research networks with peer networks in Europe and Africa and leverage existing international network connectivity. High-performance network connections funded by this program are intended to support science and engineering research and education applications, and preference will be given to solutions that provide the best economy of scale and demonstrate the ability to support the largest communities of interest with the broadest services. Funded projects will assist the U.S. research and education community by enabling state-of-the-art international network services and access to increased collaboration and data services. Through extended international network connections, additional research and production network services will be enabled, complementing those currently offered or planned by domestic research networks.

    The goals of the Accelerating Research through International Network-to-Network Collaborations (AccelNet) program are to accelerate the process of scientific discovery and prepare the next generation of U.S. researchers for multiteam international collaborations. The AccelNet program supports strategic linkages among U.S. research networks and complementary networks abroad that will leverage research and educational resources to tackle grand scientific challenges that require significant coordinated international efforts. The program seeks to foster high-impact science and engineering by providing opportunities to create new collaborations and new combinations of resources and ideas among linked global networks. This solicitation invites proposals for the creation of international networks of networks in research areas aligned either with one of the NSF Big Ideas or a community-identified scientific challenge with international dimensions. AccelNet awards are meant to support the connections among research networks, rather than supporting fundamental research as the primary activity. Each network of networks is expected to engage in innovative collaborative activities that promote synergy of efforts across the networks and provide professional development for students, postdoctoral scholars, and early-career researchers. There are two proposal categories covered by this solicitation: Catalytic and Full-Scale Implementation.

    The Human Cell Atlas (HCA) is a global effort to create a reference map of all cell types in the human body. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Helmsley Charitable Trust are pleased to announce continued support for the Human Cell Atlas by collaborating on two new funding mechanisms that the community can access through a single application portal. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative seeks to continue the work of the HCA community with a focus on interdisciplinary work and collaboration through the formation of 3 year Seed Networks. The Helmsley Charitable Trust welcomes applications that will construct a detailed atlas of the human gut. Project Specifications This Request for Applications (RFA) seeks to support the continued growth of nascent projects and to incubate new networks. The Seed Networks should generate new tools, open source analysis methods, and significant contributions of diverse data types to the Human Cell Atlas Data Coordination Platform. Applications should have a primary focus on the healthy tissues that will contribute to a reference atlas. Seed Networks Seed Networks should consist of at least three principal investigators, including at least one computational biologist or software engineer, together with additional computational biologists, engineers, experimental biologists, and/or physicians. CZI Seed Networks aim to support foundational tools and resources for the HCA and will not require a gut component in the application. CZI Seed Network Grants have four overarching scientific goals: - Build and support networks of collaborating scientists and engineers; - Contribution of high-quality data to v1.0 of the HCA; - Development of new technologies and benchmark data sets, particularly those anchored in spatial as well as molecular information; - Support of computational biology within the Human Cell Atlas community.

    Supported by the NIH Common Fund (Common Fund) Science of Behavior Change (SOBC) Program, this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits competitive revision (formerly known as a competitive supplement) applications to NIH-supported clinical trials awarded as research project R34 grants. The goal of the SOBC Program is to advance a mechanisms-focused, experimental medicine approach to behavior change research. Funded projects in the SOBC Research Network (https://commonfund.nih.gov/behaviorchange/fundedresearch) have developed experimental manipulations, assays, and/or measures (hereafter referred to as assays for brevity) to support an experimental medicine approach to behavior change research. The SOBC Measures Repository is accessible from the SOBC Research Network Open Science Framework (OSF) page at https://osf.io/zp7b4. The goal of this FOA is to accelerate the adaptation, validation, and translation of SOBC Research Network assays for use in ongoing clinical trials. This FOA calls for the integration of SOBC Research Network assays into active NIH-supported clinical trials of drugs, devices, procedures, or behavior modifications. As such, the active NIH-supported clinical trial used to respond to this FOA does not have to be a behavior change trial or identify behavior change as a primary outcome. The integration of SOBC Research Network assays into ongoing clinical trials will accelerate the development of interventions and experimental manipulations that have been shown to engage specific mechanisms of behavior change and the development of assays that verify engagement of those behavior change targets.

    This initiative will foster collaborative and coordinated efforts to characterize the underlying genetic architecture of diverse neuropsychiatric phenotypes within and across rare genetic disorders and identify the shared genetic risk across rare and idiopathic neuropsychiatric disorders. Projects from multi-disciplinary teams will utilize genome-wide data to comprehensively assess the contribution of genetic variation to the variable expressivity and incomplete penetrance of neuropsychiatric phenotypes across rare genetic disorders. Projects are encouraged to leverage existing resources, cohorts, and collaborative networks with established infrastructure for consistent and high-quality phenotypic data collection and genomic data generation. Projects should seek to enhance the quality of the phenotypic data available for rare genetic disorders by developing or applying phenotyping methodologies that create a pipeline for standardizing assessments and that cut across rare genetic disorders and across developmental time points. Under this initiative, investigators will form a network to facilitate data sharing and harmonization of clinical and genetic data across different studies within the network, as well as accelerate characterization of genotype to phenotype relationships across rare genetic disorders. This network will also generate a resource of bio-samples, as well as phenotypic and genetic data for broader dissemination to the scientific community. This FOA should be used for applications that are not collaborative between sites. Applications requiring two or more collaborating sites to complete the proposed research should apply as a linked set of collaborative U01 applications to the companion collaborative U01 FOA (RFA-MH-19-201). All awards supported under this FOA and the companion collaborative U01 FOA (RFA -MH-19-201) will be governed by the Mental Health Rare Genetic Disease Network (MHRGDN).

    Recent advances in endovascular thrombectomy offer a new opportunity to reconsider neuroprotective agents as adjunctive therapies to extend the time window for reperfusion and to improve long-term functional outcome. The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) issued by NINDS is to invite applications for the Coordinating Center (CC) for the NIH Stroke Preclinical Assessment Network (SPAN). SPAN will facilitate testing of up to 6 promising neuroprotective drugs or interventions to be given prior to or at the time of reperfusion in experimental models of ischemic stroke (e.g., transient middle cerebral artery occlusion).     Access to quality assured diagnostics and laboratory services is critical to the effective diagnosis, treatment, and management of HIV and other HIV-related diseases, including TB. Achieving an AIDS-Free Generation and the UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets requires establishment and operationalization of laboratory and diagnostic networks, including strong and sustainable collaborations with partners.To date, PEPFAR-supported laboratory and integrated diagnostic network strengthening efforts have led to improved access to the quality diagnostic and patient monitoring services required to support the HIV clinical cascade. However, work remains to establish and maintain the partnerships and collaborations required to support these efforts. This NOFO will focus on building and strengthening sustainable networks and partnerships to support laboratory systems, policies, and data use in PEPFAR-supported countries; improving in-service laboratory safety and science competencies through quality training for laboratory professionals; collaborations across partner organizations, laboratory professionals, and clinicians; strengthened public health laboratory and diagnostic network capacity, quality, and functionality; and improved access to high quality and effective technical assistance (TA) resources.

    This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is associated with the Beau Biden Cancer MoonshotSM Initiative that is intended to accelerate cancer research. Specifically, this FOA targets the following area designated as scientific priority by the Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP): Recommendation B. Create a translational science network devoted exclusively to immunotherapy approaches to treat and prevent adult cancers. The goal of the network is to foster collaborative team science approaches to accelerate the discover of new immune targets and evaluate novel immune-based therapies and combination approaches that eliminate established cancers in adults or to prevent cancers before they occur. The purpose of this FOA is to establish a Cancer Immunotherapy Consortium (CIC) composed of organ site-specific Cancer Immunotherapy Research Projects as a component of the Immuno-Oncology Translation Network (IOTN). The CIC will form an integrated network of multi-disciplinary, collaborative teams with the overarching goals of accelerating translational research of innate and adaptive immune mechanisms that contribute to tumor progression, and evaluating new or improved immunotherapeutic strategies (including combinations with standard or other therapies) resulting in durable anti-cancer responses.     The purpose of this FOA is to solicit applications for the Immune Tolerance Network. The major objective of the Network is to develop tolerogenic approaches for the treatment of disease in three clinical areas: asthma and allergic diseases; autoimmune diseases; and immune-mediated consequences of allotransplantation.     This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications to start a new initiative, the Genomics of Gene Regulation (GGR), which is intended to explore genomic approaches to understanding the role of genomic sequence in the regulation of gene networks. A long-term goal of functional genomics is to decipher the rules by which gene networks are regulated and to understand how such regulation affects cellular function, development and disease. The GGR initiative will address the genome-proximal component of the regulation of gene networks by supporting a set of demonstration projects to develop and validate models that describe how a comprehensive set of sequence-based functional elements work in concert to regulate the finite set of genes that determine a biological phenomenon, using RNA amounts, and perhaps transcript structure, as the readout. This FOA seeks to support substantial improvement in the methods for developing gene regulatory network models, rather than an incremental improvement on existing methods. This work will move the field closer to the long-term goal of reading DNA sequence and accurately predicting when and at what levels a gene is expressed, in the context of a particular cell state. These demonstration projects will be organized as a research consortium to accelerate progress through the coordination of analytical methods and functional genomic data.

    This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for an Early Psychosis Intervention Network (EPINET) National Data Coordinating Center (ENDCC) to support and extend the work of regional scientific hubs described in companion announcement RFA-MH-19-150. The ENDCC will lead efforts to (a) harmonize early psychosis common data elements, standard measures, and uniform data collection procedures across multiple early psychosis Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) clinics within regional networks; (b) build informatics infrastructure and pipelines necessary to gather and store de-identified, patient-level data collected across all regional clinics; (c) develop data analysis, presentation, and reporting tools to facilitate timely quality improvement and program evaluation efforts across regional networks; (d) identify innovative CSC assessment, intervention, and quality improvement practices for broad dissemination; and (e) make national CSC data available for practice-based research to improve early identification, diagnosis, clinical assessment, intervention effectiveness, service delivery and health outcomes in early psychosis. The ENDCC will combine regional datasets into a national repository of early psychosis common data elements, clinical measures, assessment and intervention strategies, and de-identified person-level data from patients receiving CSC services. Data assembled by the ENDCC will facilitate large-scale, practice-based research to improve early identification, diagnosis, clinical assessment, intervention effectiveness, and health outcomes in clinics offering evidence-based care to persons in the early stages of psychotic illness.

    The CZI Neurodegeneration Challenge Network has three goals: (1) to make fundamental advances toward understanding neurodegeneration; (2) to bring new ideas and talent to the field of neurodegeneration; and (3) to encourage a new type of interdisciplinary collaborative research involving scientists, clinicians and engineers. We invite applications to join the Neurodegeneration Challenge Network through two RFA mechanisms: CZI Ben Barres Early Career Acceleration Awards: five-year investigator grants for early career academic investigators, with an emphasis on those who are new to the field of neurodegeneration. We seek to empower investigators to pursue bold ideas and to take risks within a supportive and collaborative environment. Awardees will benefit from mentorship support, as well as professional development, training and network opportunities, and practical career guidance to help them navigate this early stage of their careers. It is with great pleasure that we name this Award in memory of Dr. Ben Barres. Through his research career and his life and humanity, Ben embodied both the spirit and the scientific aims of this Award and the Challenge Network approach. CZI Collaborative Science Awards: three-year grants for small group interdisciplinary collaborations. At least one member of the collaboration should be a physician with active clinical engagement in an area relevant to the proposal. These grants are aimed to support innovative, bold, high risk/high impact projects at the interface of basic and disease biology.
