Applications to this FOA should utilize one or more of the following analytic approaches, methods, and data sources, including but not limited to social media data mining, Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, online social network analysis, crowdsourcing research tools (e.g., mTurk), online search data, Ecological Momentary Assessment, neuroscience and biobehavioral approaches to communication, and geographic information systems. The purpose of the Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) program is to stimulate research in educational institutions that provide baccalaureate or advanced degrees for a significant number of the Nation's research scientists, but that have not been major recipients of NIH support. AREA grants create opportunities for scientists and institutions otherwise unlikely to participate extensively in NIH research programs to contribute to the Nation's biomedical and behavioral research effort. AREA grants are intended to support small-scale research projects proposed by faculty members of eligible, domestic institutions, to expose undergraduate and/or graduate students to meritorious research projects, and to strengthen the research environment of the applicant institution.

The Albert Einstein Fellowship supports creative, interdisciplinary thought by giving young scholars the chance to pursue research outside their previous area of work. Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. Applications for 2019 should include a CV, a two-page project proposal, and two letters of recommendation. All documents must be received by April 15, 2018. At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow will be expected to present his or her project in a public lecture at the Einstein Forum and at the Daimler and Benz Foundation. The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun. A successful application must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the superior intellectual development of the applicant. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD. The proposed project need not be entirely completed during the time of the fellowship, but can be the beginning of a longer project. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO FELLOWSHIPS WILL BE GIVEN FOR DISSERTATION RESEARCH. THE PROPOSED PROJECT MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT IN CONTENT, AND PREFERABLY FIELD AND FORM, FROM THE APPLICANT'S PREVIOUS WORK.

The NIMH Biobehavioral Research Awards for Innovative New Scientists (BRAINS) award is intended to support the research and research career advancement of outstanding, exceptionally productive scientists who are in the early, formative stages of their careers and who plan to make a long term career commitment to research in specific mission areas of the NIMH. This award seeks to assist these individuals in launching an innovative clinical, translational, basic or services research program that holds the potential to profoundly transform the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of mental disorders. The NIMH BRAINS program will focus on the research priorities and gap areas identified in the NIMH Strategic Plan and the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) project.

This research funding opportunity is being jointly issued by the NOAA OAR Office and Weather and Air Quality (OWAQ) and the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL). It seeks to obtain new knowledge of the meteorological and infrasound aspects of tornadoes in the southeastern United States (U. S.) and the social and behavioral aspects of the public response to tornado forecasts and tornado events. This new knowledge will improve our ability to understand, forecast and warn the public of tornadoes and elicit appropriate responses to mitigate damage, injuries, and loss of life. For the first time in the life of the Program, this year VORTEX-SE places an emphasis on obtaining improved understanding of the processes at play that produce tornadoes in tropical cyclone outer rainbands, as well as during the tropical-extratropical transition over land. There will be three separate competitions with three funding pools from this announcement, two for VORTEX-SE (addressing 1) the meteorological or social/behavioral priorities and 2) multi-discipline topics addressing both meteorology and social/behavioral priorities), and one for the infrasound category. Proposals in each category will be separated into independent pools based on these focus areas as specified by the Principal Investigators for the purposes of peer review, ranking, and funding.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2018 Targeted Capacity Expansion Hispanic/Latino Center of Excellence for Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Program (Short Title: Hispanic/Latino COE). The purpose of this program is to provide support for a Hispanic/Latino Center of Excellence to develop and strengthen the specialized behavioral healthcare and primary healthcare workforce that provides substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery support services to Hispanic/Latino populations. This is accomplished by accelerating the adoption and implementation of culturally appropriate, evidence-based and promising SUD treatment and recovery-oriented practices and services; heightening the awareness, knowledge, and skills of the workforce that addresses the needs of Hispanic/Latino communities with substance use or other co-occurring health disorders; and fostering regional and national alliances among culturally diverse practitioners, researchers, policy makers, funders, and the recovery community. The Hispanic/Latino COE recipient will work directly with SAMHSA and in collaboration with the FY 2017 Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) National Coordinating Center and the Regional ATTCs on activities aimed at improving the quality and effectiveness of treatment and recovery, as well as working directly with providers of clinical and recovery support services, and others that influence the delivery of services, to improve the quality of workforce training and service delivery to Hispanic/Latino communities.

Applications high in innovation and significance are highly encouraged that address the following potential topics: 1) defining recovery; 2) Examining new and innovative methods to examine precipitants of relapse; 3) Understanding mechanisms of mutual help and recovery; 4) Evaluating recovery systems of care; and 5) Examining processes of extended treatment for AUD.

This FOA encourages research that elucidates mechanisms of action and determinants of vulnerability and/or resilience by which psychosocial stress influence OUD trajectories. Research using basic or clinical approaches is appropriate.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on developing courses for skills development - specifically, exportable training modules designed to enhance the rigor and reproducibility of biomedical research, targeted to trainees and researchers at any level.

The annual program aims to promote innovative research that directly supports the autism community by expanding the body of knowledge related to autism intervention and treatment, producing practical and objective results, and providing outcomes that enhance the quality of life for persons with autism and their families. Preference will be given to the analysis, evaluation, or comparison of current models of assessment, intervention, or systems of service delivery, including policy analysis; applied aspects of educational, behavioral, or social/communicative intervention; effective intervention across the lifespan for individuals considered to be severely impacted by autism; adult issues such as continuing education, employment, residential supports, sexuality instruction, quality-of-life determinants, and "later intervention"; and issues related to family support, social and community integration, assessment and intervention with challenging behavior, and the use of technology in support of learners with ASD.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nations biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs and foster a better understanding of biomedical, behavioral and clinical research and its implications.

The SMART Office seeks applications for the enhancement and advancement of the Sexual Violence Prevention Initiative (SVPI). The SMART Office assists states, the District of Columbia, territories and tribal jurisdictions with developing and/or enhancing programs designed to implement the requirements of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA), Title I of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, and promotes innovation and best practices in protecting the public from sexual violence. This program furthers the work of SVPI, a project designed to utilize research and practice to prevent sexual violence and improve sex offender monitoring and to inform OJP's research and grant-making efforts in this area.

The purpose of this FOA is two-fold: (1) to advance identification of male-female differences in drug and alcohol research outcomes, to uncover the mechanisms of those differences, and to conduct translational research on those differences, and (2) to advance research specific to women or highly relevant to women. Both preclinical and clinical studies are sought across all areas of drug and alcohol research

As part of NSF's Harnessing the Data Revolution (HDR), the Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) seeks to develop user-friendly large-scale next-generation data resources and relevant analytic techniques to advance fundamental research in SBE areas of study. Successful proposals will, within the financial resources provided by the award, construct such databases and/or relevant analytic techniques and produce a finished product that will enable new types of data-intensive research. The databases or techniques should have significant impacts, either across multiple fields or within broad disciplinary areas, by enabling new types of data-intensive research in the SBE sciences.

The Organization for Autism Research is seeking pre-proposals for its 2018 Applied Research Competition. The annual program aims to promote innovative research that directly supports the autism community by expanding the body of knowledge related to autism intervention and treatment, producing practical and objective results, and providing outcomes that enhance the quality of life for persons with autism and their families. Preference will be given to the analysis, evaluation, or comparison of current models of assessment, intervention, or systems of service delivery, including policy analysis; applied aspects of educational, behavioral, or social/communicative intervention; effective intervention across the lifespan for individuals considered to be severely impacted by autism; adult issues such as continuing education, employment, residential supports, sexuality instruction, quality-of-life determinants, and "later intervention"; and issues related to family support, social and community integration, assessment and intervention with challenging behavior, and the use of technology in support of learners with ASD.
