This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide support for research Centers that (1) conduct drug abuse and addiction research in any area of NIDA's mission, (2) have outstanding innovative science, (3) are multidisciplinary, thematically integrated, synergistic, and (4) serve as national resource(s) to provide educational and outreach activities to drug abuse research communities, educational organizations, the general public, and policy makers in the NIDA research fields It is expected that a Center will transform knowledge in the sciences it is studying. Incremental work should not be the focus of Center activities; rather, new and creative directions are required. The P50 Center of Excellence is expected to foster the career development and mentoring of new investigators who would be given meaningful roles to play in the Center projects. A goal of this program is to create NIDA Centers that are national community resources for furthering drug abuse research by sharing their findings, their data, and their resources as appropriate for researchers to use and build upon and to advance research in this field

Established in 2004, the grant program is intended to encourage and support students conducting research pursuant to graduate and postgraduate studies in disciplines related to the assessment, intervention, and support of learners with autism spectrum disorders. Grants of up to $2,000 will be awarded for projects related to the analysis, evaluation, or comparison of assessment models, treatment models, or service systems; applied aspects of early and/or school-based education, behavioral, or communication intervention; adult issues such as continuing education, employment, housing models, and later intervention; and/or issues related to family support, social and community integration, and assessment and interventions for challenging behavior. Priority will be given to studies likely to produce practical and clearly objective results that may aid parents, families, professionals, and people with autism to make more fully informed choices that lead to healthier and happier lives. International students are eligible to apply. The maximum grant awards are $2,000 for doctoral or postdoctoral candidates and $1,000 for master's candidates.

The NSF Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) in collaboration with AAAS will offer an Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Education and Human Resources (IUSE: EHR) webinar focusing on opportunities for funding in the IUSE: EHR program, specifically associated with the Institutional and Community Transformation (ICT) track of the IUSE program. An audio archive and slides will be posted after the webinar at https://aaas-iuse.org. The IUSE: EHR program "seeks to promote novel, creative, and transformative approaches to generating and using new knowledge about STEM teaching and learning to improve STEM education for all undergraduates." The program supports proposals interested in improving undergraduate education, developing faculty expertise, preparing K-12 teachers, and providing all undergraduate students with STEM competencies and a basic understanding of STEM concepts and principles. All projects must contribute to the body of knowledge about what works in undergraduate STEM education and the conditions that lead to improved STEM teaching and learning. The ICT track seeks to fund innovative work on systemic change that may be measured at the departmental, institutional, or multi-institutional level, or across communities of STEM educators and/or educational researchers. ICT projects are expected to include one or more theories of change to guide the proposed work and this webinar will provide information about expectations for Identifying and incorporating these theories of change.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, is seeking applications proposing research that will address behavioral, technical and practical aspects of interventions and communication strategies to reduce exposures and/or health risks of wildland fire smoke.

The goal of the NOSI is to develop strategies and interventions to address vaccine hesitancy, uptake, and implementation among populations who experience health disparities in the US. The NOSI will solicit research to help understand and address misinformation, distrust, and hesitancy regarding vaccines (e.g., SARS-CoV-2, human papilloma virus, pneumococcal, influenza, hepatitis B, and herpes zoster) that target adults in the United States and territories, especially among populations who are at increased risk for morbidity and mortality due to long-standing systemic health and social inequities and chronic medical conditions. The program will solicit community-engaged research to: 1) evaluate innovative interventions (e.g., expand reach, access) to facilitate vaccination uptake in clinical and community contexts; and 2) address the barriers to increasing reach, access, and uptake of vaccinations among health disparity populations.

As part of NSF's Cyberinfrastructure Framework for 21st Century Science and Engineering (CIF21) activity, the Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE), the Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR), and the Office of Cyberinfrastructure seek to enable research communities to develop visions, teams, and capabilities dedicated to creating new, large-scale, next-generation data resources and relevant analytic techniques to advance fundamental research for the SBE and EHR areas of research.  Successful proposals will outline activities that will have significant impacts across multiple fields by enabling new types of data-intensive research.  Investigators should think broadly and create a vision that extends intellectually across multiple disciplines and that includes--but is not limited to--the SBE or EHR areas of research.

Approaches that partner technology-based solutions with biobehavioral health research are supported by multiple agencies of the federal government including the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The purpose of this program is to develop next generation health care solutions and encourage existing and new research communities to focus on breakthrough ideas in a variety of areas of value to health, such as sensor technology, networking, information and machine learning technology, decision support systems, modeling of behavioral and cognitive processes, as well as system and process modeling. Effective solutions must satisfy a multitude of constraints arising from clinical/medical needs, social interactions, cognitive limitations, barriers to behavioral change, heterogeneity of data, semantic mismatch and limitations of current cyberphysical systems. Such solutions demand multidisciplinary teams ready to address technical, behavioral and clinical issues ranging from fundamental science to clinical practice.

The RCMI Research Coordination Network (RRCN), formerly known as the RCMI Translational Research Network (RTRN), was established in 2007 to enhance collaboration across RCMI institutions. The purpose of the HHS OMH is to improve minority health and the quality of health care minorities receive and to work to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities, including through awarding grants and cooperative agreements with organizations in communities of color to develop specific efforts to improve the health status of racial and ethnic minorities. Under the OVC FY 2017 Action Partnerships for National Membership, Professional Affiliation, and Community Service Organizations: Post-Conviction Services to Victims of Crime solicitation, applicants will be asked to address one or a combination of the following areas: Victim services throughout post-conviction involvement in criminal cases through appeal, parole, and psychiatric review hearings, etc.Unique issues in serving victims involved with cold cases (it is understood there may not be an actual conviction in these instances), capital cases, and/or wrongful conviction cases.Emerging issues such as retroactive legislation making necessary protocols for victim notification and other services and support.Provision of victim services through facilitated dialogue processes such as victim driven voluntary restorative justice programs and/or diversion programs or tribal peacemaking programs in lieu of conviction.Field-generated ideas or other issues related to post-conviction services not addressed above where applicants can effectively demonstrate a need or gap.

NSF INCLUDES (Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science) is a comprehensive national initiative designed to enhance U.S. leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) discoveries and innovations by focusing on broadening participation in these fields at scale. In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, the Charles Koch Foundation seeks to support research projects (e.g. papers, conferences, workshops, etc.) that explore innovative, community-based solutions that are targeted at destroying the root causes of substance abuse. To that end, we are actively soliciting proposals for projects to consider innovative solutions that seek to alleviate substance use disorders. We are especially interested in research that: - Addresses innovative ways to help individuals overcome substance use disorders, prevent drug overdoses, and increase the willingness of individuals to seek treatment for substance abuse. - Explores the root causes of addiction and substance use disorders as well as innovative means to prevent substance abuse by remedying these root causes. - Addresses the unintended consequences of current approaches to reduce drug overdoses and substance abuse. - Examines solutions that offer a proactive approach to fighting addiction rather than a reactive approach focusing on treatment and recovery. - Explores opportunities to reduce the stigma associated with substance use disorders and celebrate success in overcoming addiction and substance abuse.

DLS supports fundamental research that increases our understanding of cognitive, linguistic, social, cultural, and biological processes related to children's and adolescents' development and learning.  Research supported by this program will add to our basic knowledge of how people learn and the underlying developmental processes that support learning, with the objective of leading to better educated children and adolescents who grow up to take productive roles as workers and as citizens. Among the many research topics supported by DLS are: developmental cognitive neuroscience; development of higher-order cognitive processes; transfer of knowledge from one domain or situation to another; use of molecular genetics to study continuities and discontinuities in development; development of peer relations and family interactions; multiple influences on development, including the impact of family, school, community, social institutions, and the media; adolescents' preparation for entry into the workforce; cross-cultural research on development and learning; and the role of cultural influences and demographic characteristics on development. Areas of Focus: The FY13 TSCRP encourages research projects applications that specifically address the critical needs of theTSC community in the following areas of focus: Genetic, epigenetic, and non-genetic modifiers of TSC. Identification and development of preclinical models and therapeutic strategies (e.g., cytotoxic agents, combination therapies). Identifying biomarkers for early detection, prognosis, and prediction of treatment outcomes (such as serum markers, imaging, electrophysiology, prenatal testing, and pharmacogenetics). Impact of TSC manifestations in adults (e.g., care management, age-specific pathogenesis, epidemiology, renal, reproductive issues, and lymphangioleiomyomatosis [LAM])). Long-term benefits and effects of mTOR inhibitors or other agents. Novel strategies for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of TSC manifestations including those geared toward early identification and intervention. Understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of TSC and LAM pathogenesis. Understanding the mechanism and improving the treatment of epilepsy in TSC. Understanding the mechanism and improving treatment of TSC-associated neurocognitive disorders (TAND) including cognitive impairment, and psychiatric, behavioral, and sleep disorders.
