    Native artists offer profound contributions to intellectual inquiry and global dialogue. Native artists are at thresholds of exploration in unfolding creative terrains. They are deepening their impact on the field of contemporary arts practice and are forging new recognition in national and international communities. Through the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Artist Fellowships program, we hope to foster the creativity of our Indigenous artists, allowing the opportunity for study, reflection, experimentation, and innovation.

    The Princess Grace Foundation-USA, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, is accepting nominations for its 2013 JustFilms Documentary Awards program, which seeks to identify and support voices from underrepresented communities with authentic and powerful stories to tell. This year, priority will be given to social justice films by Native/Indigenous peoples of the Americas. Grant amounts are contingent on the size of the project budget. Nominations must be submitted by deans/department chairs in conjunction with the faculty of established U.S. colleges and universities or by directors of nonprofit media arts organizations with structured film production programs that the foundation has invited to apply. Candidates from colleges and universities must be full-time students or matriculated but have not yet completed their thesis films, have completed at least one film as director, be the director of the proposed thesis film, and be a United States citizen or be able to demonstrate proof of permanent resident status.

    Thanks to generous support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation The Phillips Museum of Art at Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for a one-semester post-doctoral fellowship beginning January 2014. The fellow will teach one course of their own design and develop an exhibition proposal relating to their area of expertise. The successful candidate will be an innovative scholar/teacher/museum professional with a Ph.D. in contemporary art history, with a preferred emphasis on the intersections of science, technology and gender. Must have museum/ gallery experience and at least three years, full-time college-level teaching experience. The candidate will demonstrate an ability to plan and conceptualize exhibitions on contemporary art and culture based on original research, and will possess an active record of professional and scholarly achievement in contemporary art. The position requires a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and the ability to communicate to a broad audience of faculty, undergraduates, and museum visitors.

    Bridging Cultures films will spark Americans' engagement with the wider world through the exploration of countries and cultures outside of the United States, and/or across nations. Films might take a wide range of approaches to international and transnational topics: * an examination of a critical issue in ethics, religion, or history, viewed through an international lens; * an approach to a topic or subject that transcends the idea of traditional nation statehood and explores it across borders; * a biography of a foreign leader, writer, artist, or historical figure; or * an exploration of the history and culture(s) of a specific region, country, or community outside of the United States. Projects must be analytical and deeply grounded in humanities scholarship. We encourage innovative nonfiction storytelling and creative formats that will reach broad audiences. Films must range in length from a stand-alone broadcast hour to a feature-length documentary. Applicants should demonstrate international collaboration by enlisting U.S.-based and non-U.S.-based scholars and/or by working with an international media team.

    The "Hybrid Art" category is dedicated specifically to today's hybrid and transdisciplinary projects and approaches to media art. Primary emphasis is on the process of fusing different media and genres into new forms of artistic expression as well as the act of transcending the boundaries between art and research, art and social/political activism, art and pop culture. Jurors will be looking very closely at how dynamically the submitted work defies classification in a single one of the Prix categories of long standing.

    The Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, is accepting submissions for the 2013 Archives of American Art Graduate Research Essay Prize Funded by the Dedalus Foundation, Inc., to be given to compelling original research using the resources of the Archives of American Art as primary evidence.     The Cultural Programs Division within the Office of Citizen Exchanges, in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announces an open competition, pending the availability of funds, for four projects under the FY13 Creative Arts Exchange (CAE). CAE initiatives are arts-based international people-to-people exchanges that support and further U.S. Department of State foreign policy objectives.     The College Board is accepting applications for the 2013 College Board Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts. The annual award recognizes the achievements of six member institutions which have implemented an arts program that promotes student learning and creativity in exemplary and innovative ways. One school from each of the College Board's six regions will be awarded $3,500 to support the continuation and growth of their programs. Of the six finalists, one school will be named the national winner and will be awarded an additional $1,500. Regional winners will be honored at their respective College Board Regional Forums; the national winner also will be honored at the College Board National Forum.

    In its grantmaking, Harpo Foundation prioritizes projects that advance and cross the boundaries of visual media and artistic disciplines. Proposals are evaluated on the basis of the quality of the artist's work, the potential to expand aesthetic inquiry, and the strength of its relationship to the foundation's priority to provide support to visual artists who are under recognized by the field. The foundation awards between 10-15 grants annually and funding decisions are made by the Board of Directors. As a general guideline, requests should not exceed $10,000 per year. Grants made to non-profit organizations must be used for direct project costs related to artist honoraria, commissioning fees, production costs, and travel. All projects funded during the 2013 funding cycle should be completed by September 2014. Projects that are scheduled in 2013 but happen prior to the foundation's November notification date may be eligible for funding on a retroactive basis.

    The British Journal of Aesthetics (BJA) holds a competition each year open to students on full-time undergraduate or graduate courses at art and design schools or in fine art/design departments in any country to design a cover for the journal, which is published by Oxford University Press (OUP), both in print and online. The overall cover design includes an image, generally a black & white photograph of a sculpture or a detail from a print. It is normally but not necessarily a monochrome image. But winning entries in the competition have varied considerably from this norm. Entries to the competition will consist in a .jpeg or .tiff containing an image (henceforth, the "image"), and a cover design incorporating the image (henceforth, the "design"), which can be assembled using a template that can be downloaded here (the template is available in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop). You will also find the covers of recent issues on this page. The resolution of the image must be at least 300dpi. There is no restriction on the use of colour. The winning entry will showcase the distinctive style of the artist, while remaining consistent with the series of covers as a whole.The winner and runners up of last year's competition can be seen on the BJA website here. The specific brief for this year's competition is to design a cover on the theme 'form and function'.
