The Board of Regents is seeking high quality, focused cooperative education and internship program proposals from Ohio institutions of higher education and their partners. This program has been funded  through one-time casino licensing fees; it is expected that the funds will be awarded to build systems to sustain co-ops and internships beyond the direct investment from the State and to ensure these workbased learning opportunities are relevant to the needs of students and businesses. Funds will be awarded to build the capability and capacity of programs to engage more students, more businesses,  and more faculty members in co-op and internship programs. The programs should address the talent needs of JobsOhio key industries.

Through Our Town, subject to the availability of funding, the National Endowment for the Arts will provide a limited number of grants, ranging from $25,000 to $200,000, for creative placemaking projects that contribute toward the livability of communities and help transform them into lively, beautiful, and sustainable places with the arts at their core. Our Town will invest in creative and innovative projects in which communities, together with their arts and design organizations and artists, seek to: Improve their quality of life. Encourage greater creative activity. Foster stronger community identity and a sense of place. Revitalize economic development.

The following programs have due dates that fall between October 1 - 25, 2013, and these dates are being revised due to the Federal  government shutdown. These revised dates apply whether the proposal is being submitted via the NSF FastLane System or  Grants.gov. Creative placemaking animates public and private spaces, rejuvenates structures and streetscapes, improves local business viability and public safety, and brings diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of the P3-People, Prosperity and the Planet Award Program, is seeking applications proposing to research, develop, and design solutions to real world challenges involving the overall sustainability of human society. The P3 competition highlights the use of scientific principles in creating innovative projects focused on sustainability. The P3 Award program was developed to foster progress toward sustainability by achieving the mutual goals of improved quality of life for its people, economic prosperity and protection of the planet -- people, prosperity, and the planet - the three pillars of sustainability. The EPA offers the P3 competition in order to respond to the technical needs of the world while moving towards the goal of sustainability. This program supports digitally based research projects in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. It is hoped that projects of successful applicants will help advance digital humanistic scholarship by broadening understanding of its nature and exemplifying the robust infrastructure necessary for creating such works. ACLS Digital Innovation Fellowships are intended to support an academic year dedicated to work on a major scholarly project that takes a digital form. Projects may: Address a consequential scholarly question through new research methods, new ways of representing the knowledge produced by research, or both; Create new digital research resources; Increase the scholarly utility of existing digital resources by developing new means of aggregating, navigating, searching, or analyzing those resources; Propose to analyze and reflect upon the new forms of knowledge creation and representation made possible by the digital transformation of scholarship. ACLS will award up to six Digital Innovation Fellowships in this competition year. Each fellowship carries a stipend of up to $60,000 towards an academic year's leave and provides for project costs of up to $25,000. ACLS does not support creative works (e.g., novels or films), textbooks, straightforward translations, or purely pedagogical projects.

MAP funding is used to support, develop, improve and, as much as possible, institutionalize infrastructure maintenance practices in the seven insular areas.

The Association of Historians of American Art (AHAA) offers two grants of $500 each to defray College Art Association conference expenses, including transportation, housing, and registration fees, for presenting members. The first grant is for an ABD graduate student in American art history who is currently enrolled in a graduate program and will travel to CAA's annual conference to appear on the meeting program. The second grant is to support a contingent faculty member or museum staff person whose work engages with the art of the United States, does not have access to travel funds from their institution of employment, and will travel to CAA's annual conference to appear on the meeting program. Applications for Travel Grants are due by December 1 and must include a short cv and letter of interest. The letter should indicate which award is being applied for - Professional or Graduate Student - and must include the applicant's paper and session title as they appear on the CAA program. For the Professional award, applicants should also address their institutional affiliation. The two winners of the AHAA Travel Grant must be members of AHAA at the time of their application. All qualified candidates will be entered into a lottery and the winners selected at random. Applicants will be notified via email by December 15. The Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence (RBA) is a national design award that recognizes transformative urban places distinguished by their economic and social contributions to America's cities. Founded in 1986 by architect Simeon Bruner, the award promotes innovative thinking about the built environment by celebrating and sharing the stories of creative and inspiring urban development.

With this publication, HUD is making available up to $5,000,000 for Planning Grants, including Planning and Action Grants.1. Planning Grants are two-year grants that assist communities with severely distressed public or HUD-assisted housing in developing a successful neighborhood transformation plan and building the support necessary for that plan to be successfully implemented.2. Planning and Action Grants are three and a half year planning grants that pair planning with action. Experience shows that tangible actions taken early on help communities build momentum for further planning and the eventual transition from planning to implementation of that plan. These actions improve neighborhood confidence, which in turn sustains the community’s energy, attracts more engagement and resources, and helps convince skeptical stakeholders that positive change is possible. Under these grants, the planning process activities would take place during the first 24 months of the grant period. The planning process will identify Action Activities that will be carried out during the latter portion of the grant period. Action Activities must build upon the planning for the target housing and neighborhood.

The Spencer Foundation is accepting proposals for its Conference Grants program, which provides support to scholars for small research conferences and focused symposia. The program intends to bring together researchers whose substantive knowledge, theoretical insight, and methodological expertise can be assembled in ways that build upon and advance best practices in education research. The foundation rotates the programs area of focus periodically to generate fresh ideas and perspectives on pressing educational challenges. Currently, it is seeking proposals from scholars whose interests are related to creating and sustaining equitable educational spaces. The program will support conference proposals with budgets of up to $50,000. Principal investigators and Co-PIs applying for a conference grant must have earned a doctorate degree in an academic discipline or professional field, or demonstrate appropriate experience in an education research-related profession. In addition, the PI must be affiliated with a college, university, school district, nonprofit research facility, or non-profit cultural institution that is willing to serve as the fiscal agent if the grant is awarded.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) hereby requests applications for assistance to result in the award of a Cooperative Agreement (Agreement), entitled "Development and Deployment of Innovative Asphalt Pavement Technologies." The purpose of this proposed Agreement is to stimulate, facilitate, and expedite the deployment and rapid adoption of new and innovative technology relating to the design, production, testing, control, construction, and investigation of asphalt pavements. The proposed project is a cooperative effort between the FHWA and the Recipient to improve the quality and performance of asphalt pavements. Products shall include developing marketing/implementation plans, engaging subject matter experts to aid in conducting forensic investigations pertaining to deployment and in the refinement of specifications and practices, developing web-based training tools, marketing of case studies, data analysis, market analysis, specification tracking, compilation of findings, and supporting stakeholder engagement. This effort will leverage the unique technology capabilities and facilities of the Recipient with FHWA's mission.

EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality (OTAQ) is soliciting proposals nationwide for projects that achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions in terms of tons of pollution produced by diesel engines and diesel emissions exposure, particularly from fleets located in areas designated as having poor air quality. Further, priority for funding may be given to projects which result in outcomes that benefit affected communities, those that engage affected communities with respect to the design and performance of the project, and those which can demonstrate the ability to promote and continue efforts to reduce emissions after the project has ended.

The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to seek information from developers and manufacturers of gasifier equipment, power generation equipment manufacturers, utilities, power plant architects and engineers, and other stakeholders that can be used as input to a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy (FE) research and development (R&D) program for versatile gasification technology for modular or small-scale conversion/consumption of a wide range of feedstocks, including coal, biomass, municipal solid waste (MSW), energetic materials and munitions, and other opportunity feedstocks. Modular implementations of gasification imply unit sizes of approximately 1 to 5 MWe equivalent, while applications for the syngas produced could range from power generation to fuels synthesis and beyond. Modular gasification implementations or systems are expected to find a place in the market through high efficiency, thoughtful integration of system components, and reduction of costs. For example, combined heat and power (CHP) applications of modular gasification technology would enable higher overall efficiencies and diversity of product value.

The Knight Foundation believes that great public spaces can transform cities by fostering civic life, drawing people out of their homes and into the community, and encouraging neighbors to be together and interact.  To be eligible, candidates must have created or influenced the creation of a great public space or spaces that resulted in community transformation and possess the following attributes: a trackable performance record of exceptional public space work; a demonstrated commitment to the value of public spaces in advancing civic engagement and building stronger communities; and the potential to make significant new contributions to the use of public space in the community.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications from the Program Directors/Principal Investigators of the current Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) awards. BUILD is part of the Enhancing the Diversity of the NIH-Funded Workforce Program, also known as the Diversity Program Consortium (DPC), consists of three integrated initiatives: BUILD, the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) and the Coordination and Evaluation Center (CEC). The purpose of the funding is to allow BUILD sites to continue to implement and evaluate the multi-pronged student, faculty, and institutional interventions to enhance diversity in the NIH biomedical research workforce. In preparation for the second phase of the BUILD initiative, the applicants are expected to provide plans to transition into sustainable models for enhancing diversity in the biomedical research fields at their institutions. Applicants are also expected to develop an effective training, mentoring, or research capacity building intervention that will be disseminated to other institutions to increase the national impact of the initiative.

The Oberlin College Archives established the Frederick B. Artz Summer Research Grants Program in 1990. This research program, which is made possible by a grant from the Oberlin Historical and Improvement Organization, is intended to encourage and facilitate the publication of scholarly, humanistic studies based on archival and special collections sources at Oberlin College, with special emphasis on the history of the institution, Oberlin Community and liberal arts education. Studies of a local nature involving the resources of both archival and special collections departments are especially encouraged.Researchers will be selected on the quality and significance of their research proposal, its relationship to the holdings of the Oberlin College Archives and Oberlin College Library, and on the potential for publication.

Weigh-in-motion (WIM) systems are a vital means for collecting traffic data-critical input for pavement and bridge designs-used for making transportation and freight planning decisions and in highway safety investigations. There are, however, many potential sources of error in WIM measurements which make it difficult for data collectors to evaluate data accuracy and consistency. For over a decade, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) program collected a massive amount of WIM data, along with information about the performance of WIM equipment. This includes the WIM validation and calibration data from 24 LTPP Specific Pavement Studies (SPS) test sites across North America. This and other data sets provide an opportunity to develop more advanced WIM tools to help state highway practitioners perform WIM site selection, sensor selection, maintenance, development of calibration procedures including frequency, and data quality acceptance. These tools could help improve WIM data accuracy and consistency by considering factors such as temperature and seasonal effects, vehicle speed, pavement condition, changes in truck population and configurations, data sampling frequencies, system age, and other factors.
