Archaeological resources belong to all Americans and provide the history and context of our society. A primary goal of the BLM cultural resource program is to work in the public's interest so that archaeological knowledge may be shared and learned. The objective of this agreement is to share an appreciation for American history and culture, through a variety of strategies, such as through social media platforms, in order to increase public awareness, knowledge and support for historic preservation, stewardship, and interpretation of the nation's cultural and historical heritage. The Mesa Verde Escarpment is located on Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) lands and is immediately adjacent to the iconic Mesa Verde National Park and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site. Limited past fieldwork in this region has revealed highly significant sites that are critical to understanding the prehistoric Ancestral Puebloan lifeways across the Mesa Verde cultural landscape. The Mesa Verde Escarpment has a rich archaeological record spanning over 10,000 years and possesses the densest concentration of Ancestral Puebloan habitation sites on public lands, and retains areas of traditional and scared values to over 27 Native American tribes found in the region today. The temporal span and distribution of sites indicate the area was consistently inhabited from Basketmaker III period through Pueblo III (A.D. 600-1,300). More specifically, the Tres Rios Field Office (TRFO) seeks a partner for the purpose of developing and implementing cultural resource projects to amplify public education and outreach efforts, with a specific emphasis on the Mesa Verde Escarpment region.

The National Historical Publications and Records Commission seeks projects that ensure online public discovery and use of historical records collections. The Commission is especially interested in collections of America's early legal records, such as the records of colonial, territorial, county, and early statehood and tribal proceedings that document the evolution of the nation's legal history. All types of historical records are eligible, including documents, photographs, born-digital records, and analog audio and moving images. Projects may preserve and process historical records to: * Create new online Finding Aids to collections * Digitize historical records collections and make them freely available online The NHPRC encourages organizations to actively engage the public in the work of the project. The Cultural Orientation (CO) Technical Assistance Program is managed by the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration of the Department of State (hereinafter referred to as the "Bureau"). The purpose of the CO Technical Assistance Program is to strengthen linkages between overseas CO programs for refugees approved for admission to the United States and reception and placement (R&P) activities conducted upon their arrival. This program serves to complement the Reception and Placement Program, the purpose of which is to promote the effective resettlement of all persons who are admitted to the United States under the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, including assisting refugees to achieve economic self-sufficiency through employment as quickly as possible. The Bureau will enter into one Cooperative Agreement for an initial period beginning March 15, 2018, through March 14, 2019, subject to the availability of funds. Through the Cooperative Agreement, the Bureau will provide full financial support to the selected organization, based on the proposal submitted in response to this request. This financial support may be renewable for up to two additional years based upon budget submissions on an annual basis, as long as there remains a need for the program, the organization conducting the program maintains a strong performance, and subject to the availability of funds. At the end of three years, if the need for the program continues, the Bureau will re-compete the project, and the recipient of this award may participate in that process.

This project aims to use digital data recovery techniques to perform a complete archeological survey of at least 10 miles of 4WD dirt road corridors and adjacent localized watersheds (~2100 acres) within the Maze District to identify, record and evaluate impacted resources for further management and data recovery through excavation. Baseline documentation will be collected on all identified sites to include determinations of eligibility to the National Register and evaluations of resources for archeological research potential. Formal condition assessments will be conducted and will include utilizing state of the art three-dimensional and multi-sensor technologies to detect ⿿high risk⿝ areas within the broader landscape where erosion and compaction pose a threat of cultural resource loss.

The participation is open for young researchers, Ph.D. candidates and MA students. The organizing committee will award ten grants, covering the expenses for board and lodging. Applications must include an academic curriculum and a letter of presentation by an academic tutor or a renowned scholar stating the relevance of the applicants' research. The Biological Anthropology Program supports multifaceted research to advance scientific knowledge of human biology and ecology, including understanding of our evolutionary history and mechanisms that have shaped human and nonhuman primate biological diversity. Supported research focuses on living and fossil forms of both human and nonhuman primates, addressing time scales ranging from the short-term to evolutionary, encompassing multiple levels of analysis (e.g., molecular, organismal, population, ecosystem), conducted in field, laboratory, captive, and computationalresearch environments, and often incorporating interactions between human biology and culture.

Areas of inquiry that promote understanding of the evolution, biology, and adaptability of our diverse species include, but are not limited to:genetic/epigenetic/genomic variation and relationship to phenotype;ecology and socioecology; functional anatomy and skeletal biology; andpaleoanthropology and primate paleontology. Multidisciplinary research that integrates biological anthropology with related anthropological fields, such as archaeology, cultural anthropology, and forensic anthropology, also may receive support through the Program. The Program contributes to the integration of education and basic research through support of dissertation projects conducted by doctoral students enrolled in U.S. universities. This solicitation specifically addresses the preparation and evaluation of proposals for such Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement (DDRI) Grants. Dissertation research projects in all of the subareas of biological anthropology are eligible for support through these grants. These awards are intended to enhance and improve the conduct of dissertation research by doctoral students who are pursuing research in biological anthropology that enhances basic scientific knowledge.

The U.S. Embassy Budapest Public Affairs Section of the Department of State announces an open competition for organizations and individuals to submit applications to carry out a program or project with funding through its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) is issuing a Disruption Opportunity (DO) Special Notice (SN) inviting submissions of innovative basic or applied research concepts in the technical domain of understanding group biases. The Cultural Anthropology Program supports basic scientific research about the causes, consequences, and complexities of human social and cultural variability. Cultural anthropologists analyze human social and cultural behavior holistically. This integrated approach makes anthropology a valuable research tool for understanding the modern world. Because cultural patterns are emergent over time and space, there is no single natural scale for ethnographic and ethnological analysis. In some cases, cultural patterns may emerge from the collective behavior of large ensembles of smaller scale units; in others, they may be imposed by larger scale constraints. The origins of social and cultural variability may be remote from the scale at which they are observed. Therefore, research may target any appropriate scale or scales from local to regional to global. The Program encourages innovative research that contributes to building spatially and temporally specific theory that extends understanding beyond individual case studies.The Cultural Anthropology Program accepts proposals for a variety of project types: Senior Research proposals (that is, research proposals from scholars with PhDs or equivalent degree); proposals for Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants; Cultural Anthropology Scholars awards (for research-related, post-PhD training); and CAREER proposals. The Program will also consider proposals for workshops and training programs, as well as supplements to current awards to support Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) and Research Experience for Graduate Studies (REG). Research in all sub-fields of cultural anthropology is eligible. Anthropological research spans a wide gamut, and contemporary cultural anthropology is an arena in which diverse research traditions and methodologies are valid. Recognizing the breadth of the field's contributions to science, the Cultural Anthropology Program welcomes proposals for empirically grounded, theoretically engaged, and methodologically sophisticated research in all sub-fields of cultural anthropology. Because the National Science Foundation's mandate is to support basic research, the NSF Cultural Anthropology Program does not fund research that takes as its primary goal improved clinical practice or applied policy. A proposal that uses anthropological methods to understand a social problem but does not propose to make a theory-testing and/or theory expanding contribution to anthropology will be returned without review.

Projects may: * Digitize historical records collections, or related collections, held by a single institution and make them freely available online * Provide access to born-digital records * Create new freely-available virtual collections drawn from historical records held by multiple institutions * Create new tools and methods for users to access records The NHPRC welcomes collaborative projects, particularly for bringing together related records from multiple institutions. Projects that address significant needs in the field and result in replicable and scalable approaches will be more competitive.

Bandelier National Monument seeks to cooperatively inventory remaining areas of backcountry lands that are likely to contain cultural resources. Almost 98% of all park lands have been inventoried for cultural resources. Six hundred and fifteen (615) acres remain to be inventoried. An estimated 75-90 archaeological sites are located within the remaining survey units. The objective of the inventory is to locate cultural resources within the project areas using systematic pedestrian survey methods and to document resources according to established park guidelines. The methods employed during the inventory will closely match those of the Bandelier Archaeological Survey (⿿BAS⿝; Powers and Orcutt 1999) in so far as to create comparable data, with some important exceptions, as noted below. The inventory will be accomplished using the established safety plan, which will include job hazard analyses.

The Albert Einstein Fellowship supports creative, interdisciplinary thought by giving young scholars the chance to pursue research outside their previous area of work. Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. Applications for 2019 should include a CV, a two-page project proposal, and two letters of recommendation. All documents must be received by April 15, 2018. At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow will be expected to present his or her project in a public lecture at the Einstein Forum and at the Daimler and Benz Foundation. The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun. A successful application must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the superior intellectual development of the applicant. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD. The proposed project need not be entirely completed during the time of the fellowship, but can be the beginning of a longer project. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO FELLOWSHIPS WILL BE GIVEN FOR DISSERTATION RESEARCH. THE PROPOSED PROJECT MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT IN CONTENT, AND PREFERABLY FIELD AND FORM, FROM THE APPLICANT'S PREVIOUS WORK.

The American Center for Mongolian Studies (ACMS), with funding support from the US State Department Educational and Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, seeks applicants for a short-term directed fellowship in Textile Conservation to take place in Mongolia between August and December, 2020. The fellow will work with ACMS on a joint US-Mongolia textile conservation project sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar's U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) grant titled, "Conserving and Preserving Mongolia's Endangered Textile Traditions and Collections." The program will provide $4,000 to support the selected fellow's participation in the project, which will primarily take place at the National Museum of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar. The fellow will have the opportunity for in-depth examination and treatment of fabrics and textiles, costumes, and accessories representing Eurasian steppe cultures roughly spanning 2,000 years. Fabrics and textiles deriving from animal sources (silk, fur, wool, skin) feature prominently in combination with various other mediums. Most work will take place at the National Museum of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar. The fellow will work under the direction of a lead textile conservator, and in collaboration with a Mongolian fellow and cultural heritage/museum professionals with varying language proficiency. The fellow will conduct research and take part in all aspects of piloting and implementing a nationwide program aimed at advancing the professional development of textile conservation competencies in: Conservation examination and documentation methodologies, Improvement of atypical storage environments, Exhibition mounting and display, Archaeological textile salvage and stabilization, and Treatments including humidification, removal of previous repairs, cleaning, drying of wet/damp material, consolidation and stabilization of losses and tears, and compensation for loss.

The purpose of the project is to conduct archaeological data recovery and testing at the Kozlowskiâ¿¿s Trading Post at Pecos NHP in support of proposed rehabilitation/construction activities. Inside the building, the locations of concrete spot footings needed to support the new floor system will be excavated by archaeologists and all cultural resources recorded, artifacts analyzed and final report completed that summarizes present and past work within the Trading Post. Exterior work consists of remote sensing and test excavations to identify buried cultural resources in the location of a new septic line and proposed leach field southeast of the Trading Post building. This work benefits the public by providing information for interpretation and allowing for the completion of archaeological compliance, preservation, and the rehabilitation of Kozlowskiâ¿¿s Trading Post, which will be used as a visitor contact station. Furthermore, student(s) working on the project will gain valuable professional experience with archeology applied within a real world, public trust resource management setting. The information, products and/or services identified or developed by this project will be shared through a variety of strategies to increase public awareness, knowledge and support for historic preservation, and stewardship of the nationâ¿¿s cultural and historical heritage.

The site for this project is located along the western edge of White Sands National Monument overlooking the Lake Lucero playa, within the deposits of Pleistocene Lake Otero. Numerous visits to the site have been made over the past few decades both as professional investigations and avocational tours. Yet, despite its great research potential, its spatial extent has not been completely documented, nor have all of its cultural features been fully recognized. During a recent visit to the site, a series of adobe room blocks were identified on the ground surface. Additionally, areas of extremely high artifact density indicated the presence of probable buried features such as pithouses, thermal features, trash middens and even human burials. A systematic survey of the Lake Lucero Site is urgently needed to enable White Sands National Monument to properly manage and protect the site.

The floor on the Amount of Awards is U.S. $200,000. Since 2008 awards made through this program for new large-scale projects have ranged from $200,000 to $979,000 with an average award amount of $480,000. Please note that this program is separate from the AFCP small grants process. Applicants will be notified if their project abstracts received a favorable rating in which case they would be required to submit complete project proposals to Round Two. Past recipients of AFCP Large Grants Program support may submit proposals for continuation funds. This document details program guidelines, eligibility requirements and application procedures. Please adhere to all written deadlines and procedures. The AFCP Large Grants Program supports the preservation of major ancient archaeological sites, historic buildings and monuments, and major museum collections that are accessible to the public and protected by law in the host country. The AFCP Large Grants Program gives top priority to project activities that are appropriate and in keeping with international cultural heritage preservation standards. An appropriate preservation activity is one that protects the values of the site, object or collection, or form of traditional cultural expression as they are understood by stakeholders. Stakeholders may include national, regional, or local cultural authorities; the local community; and others with vested interests in the site and the outcome of a project.

Know Paleo Indian cultural sites are located along the western edge of White Sands National Monument (WHSA) overlooking the Lake Lucero and Alkali Flats, within the deposits of Pleistocene Lake Otero. Sites have also been found along the eastern margins of the monument following prehistoric drainages. Although direct correlation has not been confirmed many of the sites are adjacent to Pleistocene megafauna trackways. Despite its great research potential, its spatial extent has not been completely documented, nor have all of its cultural features been fully recognized. Recent reconnaissance surveys have found a strong correlation with the prehistoric lake shores; across the basin similar discoveries have been made. The focus of this project is to correct baseline data to develop a nomination and management plan if warranted.
