Chronic Brain Injury is accepting seed grant proposals from cross-college teams of faculty studying topics related to traumatic brain injury, concussion and dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. Five awards of $25,000 are available, and all Ohio State faculty are eligible.

This funding will support agencies and organizations that coordinate and manage Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) to identify and characterize maternal deaths for identifying prevention opportunities. Recipients will identify pregnancy-associated deaths within one year of death; abstract and enter clinical and non-clinical data into a standard data system [Maternal Mortality Review Information Application (MMRIA)], conduct multidisciplinary reviews, and enter committee decisions in MMRIA within 2 years of death. Quality assurance processes, in partnership with CDC, will be used for improving data quality, completeness, and timeliness. Recipients and CDC will analyze data and share findings with stakeholders to inform policy and prevention strategies to reduce maternal deaths.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement is to encourage collaborations between the life and physical sciences that: 1) apply a multidisciplinary bioengineering approach to the solution of a biomedical problem; and 2) integrate, optimize, validate, translate or otherwise accelerate the adoption of promising tools, methods and techniques for a specific research or clinical problem in basic, translational, or clinical science and practice. An application may propose design-directed, developmental, discovery-driven, or hypothesis-driven research and is appropriate for small teams applying an integrative approach to increase our understanding of and solve problems in biological, clinical or translational science.

This funding opportunity is designed to enable legal assistance networks, including Older Americans Act-funded programs, in strengthening and enhancing legal assistance programs to older Americans with economic and social need. Cooperative agreements under this funding opportunity announcement (FOA), Legal Assistance Enhancement Program (LAEP), will be dedicated to identifying and executing enhancements and innovations that improve the quality, effectiveness, accessibility, and availability of legal assistance offered to older Americans, consistent with the fundamental principles of the Administration for Community Living (ACL). Enhancements made through this funding opportunity will support quantifiable and sustainable improvements to the delivery of a full-range of legal assistance, from legal advice through representation to older adults.

This FOA invites applications that will systematically and comprehensively characterize alpha-synuclein and amyloid-beta subspecies present in human Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) post-mortem brain tissue, identify toxic subspecies and potential mechanisms of toxicity, and characterize any interactions between the proteins that may contribute to increased toxicity and/or explain selective vulnerabilities of cells/circuits. Applications are required to include at least 3 hypothesis-driven projects that address these goals, an administrative core, and other cores as appropriate. Applicants will be expected to focus on the use of human tissues. All applications will be expected to include plans for developing a publicly-available library of fully characterized alpha-synuclein and amyloid-beta subspecies found in LBD.

The purpose of the FOA is to support the large scale molecular platform analysis of brain tissue, human biofluid or human induced pluripotent stem cell resources for the identification of targets and pathways associated with Alzheimer's Disease Related Dementias (ADRDs) pathophysiology.

The objectives of this new funding opportunity is to provide financial assistance to the territories of American Samoa and Guam to provide, expand and improve the provision of independent living services in each respective territory. Centers for Independent Living (CILs) provide services to assist individuals with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential within their families and communities. CILs are consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability, non-residential, private nonprofit agencies. Required core services include:•Information and referrals; •Independent living skills training; •Peer counseling;•Individual and systems advocacy; and •Services that facilitate from nursing homes and other institutions to the community, assistance to individuals at risk of entering institutions, and transition of youth to postsecondary life. The problem that will be addressed is that there is currently no center for independent living (CIL) funded in American Samoa or Guam. The target population is individuals with disabilities. The CIL shall use the funds to provide services to individuals with a range of significant disabilities. The CIL shall (1) facilitate the development and achievement of independent living goals; (2) work to increase the availability and improve the quality of community options for independent living; (3) provide independent living services; (4) conduct activities to increase the capacity of communities within the service area of the CIL to meet the needs of individuals with significant disabilities; and (5) conduct resource development activities to obtain other funding.

The mission of the Administration for Community Living (ACL) Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program is to empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse. Through outreach, counseling, and education, the SMP program increases awareness and understanding of health care programs to protect Medicare beneficiaries from the economic and health-related consequences associated with Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse. ACL currently provides grant funding to support 53 SMP projects, including grantees in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam. The SMP projects use this funding to provide local outreach, education, and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries through a trained volunteer workforce. SMP projects teach Medicare beneficiaries to protect their Medicare numbers, to detect billing discrepancies on their quarterly Medicare Summary Notice statements, and to report suspicious activity for further investigation. In addition, SMP projects actively disseminate fraud prevention and identification information through the media, outreach campaigns, and community events.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative invites applications to join the CZI Neurodegeneration Challenge Network an interdisciplinary collaborative initiative to increase understanding of the fundamental biology of neurodegenerative disorders. Applications are being accepted for two funding mechanisms: Awards are worth $350K total costs per year for three years, for a total of $1.05M (including up to 15% indirect costs). The CZI Neurodegeneration Challenge Network has three goals: (1) to make fundamental advances toward understanding neurodegeneration; (2) to bring new ideas and talent to the field of neurodegeneration; and (3) to encourage a new type of interdisciplinary collaborative research involving scientists, clinicians and engineers

As a capacity-building strategy, ILA proposes that the Native American Independent Living Demonstration Project will support Native American Independent Living (IL) Specialists who have similar responsibilities to the non- Native American IL Specialist counterpart in the center for independent living, but with a focus in Indian Country. The Project will provide the independent living core services including: information and referral; skills training; peer counseling; individual and systems advocacy; and services that facilitate transition from nursing homes and other institutions to the community, assistance to individuals at risk of entering institutions and transition of youth to post secondary life. In addition, the Native American IL Specialist will conduct activities such as: • Serve as an information and resource specialist about disabilities to the Tribes in their Area• Gather information about IL needs in Indian Country• Gather data and information about disabilities in Indian Country• Gather information about current tribal efforts at providing assistance to tribal members with disabilities• Serve as a liaison between State IL Programs, the Statewide Independent Living Councils (SILCs) and Indian Country• Establish inter-agency coalitions in Indian Country to focus on serving the unmet needs of tribal members with disabilities• Serve as an effective advocate and liaison between ACL programs and services and Indian Country.

The Native American Elder Justice Initiative (NAEJI) will address the need for more culturally appropriate information and community education materials on elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation in Indian Country. It is expected that activities carried out under NAEJI will address at least one (1) of the following needs: a) Identify, develop and disseminate information and strategies on effective collaborations between tribal and non-tribal entities to address suspected cases of abuse, neglect, or exploitation; b) Assist Tribes in the development of tribal codes that protect seniors, building on existing work to develop model codes and an implementation toolkit, and maintaining examples of tribal codes to share with those creating or updating their own codes; c) Identify and develop tribally produced elder abuse prevention resources, and other informational materials for professionals and tribal members on elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation that are culturally appropriate to Tribal perceptions of abuse and Tribal values;

This FOA invites existing Alzheimer's Disease Patient Registry cooperative agreements that are described in Part 2, Section I to submit revision and or renewal applications. The Alzheimer's Disease (AD) Patient Registry is a population-based longitudinal cohort study of AD and dementia that is linked to an HMO-medical record system or a similar record system. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact their current program officer prior to submission to discuss the application.

The Brookdale Foundation Group works to advance the fields of geriatrics and gerontology and to improve the lives of senior citizens. The Foundation's Relatives as Parents Program provides support for the creation or expansion of services for grandparents and other relatives who have taken on the responsibility of surrogate parenting when the biological parents are unable to do so. Funded programs must include supportive services to relative caregivers and the children they are raising, with emphasis on families that are not in the formal foster care system. Programs must also include regular ongoing support, and educational or social groups for relative caregivers and the children in their care. Up to 15 programs will receive a seed grant of $15,000 ($10,000 and $5,000 respectively), contingent on progress made during year one and potential for continuity in the future. The NIH Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub (REACH) program is envisioned as a partnership program between NIH and the qualifying research institutions to accelerate the creation of small businesses and the transition of discoveries originating from academic research into products that improve health. REACH Hubs will foster the advancement of therapeutics, preventatives, diagnostics, devices, and tools in a manner consistent with business case development, that address the needs of patients and public health.

The functionality of the NeuroImaging Tools and Resources Collaboratory (NITRC) has enabled three distinct components to flourish: Resources Registry (NITRC-R): a collaboratory enabling the distribution, enhancement, and adoption of neuroimaging tools and resources. Image Repository (NITRC-IR): a curated repository of free neuroimaging datasets meeting global standards. Computational Environment (NITRC-CE): a freely downloadable or pay-as-you-go virtual computing cloud-based platform that is pre-configured with popular neuroimaging tools. NITRC-R has become the major web-based collaborative environment enabling the distribution, enhancement, and adoption of neuroinformatics resources. It currently hosts more than 1,000 tools and resources in areas such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), optical imaging, positron emission tomography/single-photon emission computed tomography (PET/SPECT), electroencephalography/magnetoencephalography/electrocorticography (EEG/MEG/ECoG), computational neuroscience, and imaging genomics. Since NITRC's inception, there have been more than 10 million total downloads of tools from NITRC-R.

The purpose of NIDILRR's ARRT program, which is funded through the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program, is to provide advanced research training and experience to individuals with doctorates, or similar advanced degrees, who have clinical or other relevant experience. ARRT projects train rehabilitation researchers, including researchers with disabilities, with particular attention to research areas that support the implementation and objectives of the Rehabilitation Act, and that improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act. ARRT projects must provide advanced research training to eligible individuals to enhance their capacity to conduct high-quality multidisciplinary disability and rehabilitation research to improve outcomes for individuals with disabilities in NIDILRR's major domain of health and function.
