    It is unfortunate to describe that our teenagers don't get the amount of sleep they need to function well through the daytime. While each person has their own need for sleep, most of them require at least 7 to 8 hours of restful and uninterrupted slumber during the night time.  Since teenagers are in the crucial stage of their growth and development, it is always important for them to enjoy better night's sleep.

    Common Causes of Sleep in Teens

    Lack of sleep is common most teens across the UK and other parts of the world. There are several causes responsible for sleeplessness in them including mental and physical causes. Some include:

    Rapidly changing bodies- rapid changes in the body, which affects biological clock and overall functioning of the body in girls and boys alike.

    Hectic schedules- studying for long hours at school, doing homework after school or college, playing and doing some household works- this is too much and cause fatigue in most kids.

    Active social lives- Some teenagers spend too much time playing games, walking on the roads, and making rounds of the city along with their friends. Some of them even fall in the wrong company and begin to take alcohol, nicotine, caffeinated drinks and other stimulates.

    A wrong view of sleep- Some teens take their sleep hours for granted. Even in the sleeping hours, they can be seen watching television, playing games or indulging in the late night parties with friends. This affects the sleeping patterns and leads to various types of sleep problems. 

    Effects of Sleeplessness in Teenagers:

    Have trouble waking up most mornings
    Have behavioral problem such as anger, irritation, etc.
    Feel sleepy or having numbing effect in hands and feet
    Have sudden drop in grades due to weak memory
    Sleep for very long periods on the weekends
    Have trouble concentrating and remembering
    Suffer from mood swings, hyperactivity, etc.
    Help for Better Sleep at Night

    As parents, advise your teens to never drive when feeling tired or drowsy as it is likely to result in accidents.  You also need to check upon your teen's school work load. Help your teen to balance the demands of school, home work, sports, family, and friends to help them sleep well. Decide what most important thing is for your children, and finally help them choose what may be eliminated. Ask them not to watch television, do school work, play games or indulge in fun activities till the late night.  Talk to a doctor to determine what kind of sleep problem your child has. Here are some  tips to sleep well:

    Create a calm atmosphere in the home during bedtime
    Have a regular sleep and wake up schedule to ensure full rest
    Avoid activities such as computer games, movies, reading exciting books, etc. 
    Avoid caffeine, alcohol and nicotine products close to bedtime
    Make sure you do regular exercises and have a healthy diet every day
    Use comfortable bed and ensure you sleep in the right temperature
    What about Sleeping Pills for Restful Sleep?

    If you are a teen over 18 years of age you can take the help of some cheap sleeping pills such as ambien, zopiclone and diazepam pills.  However, these medicines need to be taken as a last resort when natural methods fail to deliver the desired results.  These drugs are likely to cause some side effects when not taken as prescribed. Make sure you consult a doctor in advance before trying any of these medicines.
