Company will take over management of Niskayuna atomic power lab from Lockheed Martin
NISKAYUNA -- In a move that was not unexpected, Bechtel has been awarded a contract by the Department of Energy to manage the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna.
Bechtel subsidiary Bechtel Marine Propulsion won the $9.7 billion contract, which also includes management of the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory outside Pittsburgh.
Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna will receive $32 million from the federal stimulus package to clean up contaminated soil.
The funding will be used to clean up property known as the North Field Land Area. The $32 million is part of $6 billion allocated for projects overseen by the U.S. Department of Energy for environmental cleanup. New York is one of 12 states receiving the funding from the Department of Energy.
