Ok- it may seem silly to suggest tips on how to read, but most students use up a lot of precious study time reading EVERY SINGLE WORD of an article ..... most academics don't read like that! They "skim read" - looking for key words and getting the gist of the ideas being presented. If the article looks interesting, then they may decide to read it in more depth. The best way to read is with a question in your head....so look through the articles in this group page with an eye to what you want to write about and keep asking yourself "is this relevant?".
If you are planning to write about the value of Facebook for students, for example, keep asking as you read "what does this say about social networking tools?" "Does this apply to Facebook?" "is this relevant to university students?" etc and make notes as you go.
Does this make sense to you? What is your strategy for reading and note-taking? Leave me a comment....
