Skype in the classroom is a free community to help teachers everywhere use Skype to help their students learn. In many cities around the world, kids and adults are returning to the classrooms for a new year at school. So much has changed for students and teachers. First with mobile phones, and now with social media. How can teachers and parents keep up? Along with the development of social media tools, the opportunity for developing new methods of teaching that incorporate these tools are emerging. In the case of microblogging, specifically the use of Twitter, these challenges are global. Thankfully, Glenfield School Technology Coordinator Samantha Morra has taken the time to create the "Introduction to Twitter for Educators."

Google Tips for Educators

Twitter, without a doubt, has become the social network for educators to take their professional development into their own hands. Twitter allows teachers to connect with other educators from around the world, join discussions related to their interests and have a steady stream of resources (to help them teach and learn) available to them whenever, whereever and however. Creating a network on Twitter has catapulted educators to be part of a connected world where learning happens anytime, help is only a tweet away, collaboration partners meet and communicate, conversations that directly or indirectly impact their physical lives take place 24/7.  Twitter is helping educators gain many 21st century skills and literacies which could easily transfer to their classrooms.

Google Earth continues to mesmerize young people with its ability to put the world's geographic information at their fingertips. Educators around the globe have created engaging classroom activities that go beyond geography to teach literature, history, math, environmental science, and more. The Google Earth for Educators Community provides all of the tips and tricks for using Google Earth as a teaching tool. On this site, you can view lesson plans for a variety of grade levels and subjects, discuss Google Earth teaching tactics with fellow educators, see student-created work, and read how other teachers are using Google Earth in the classroom.

When you think of a classroom, what comes to mind? Students, teachers, lectures? There's a new classroom style that's growing in popularity where that lecture portion may be a bit less of the classroom experience. It's called a Flipped Classroom.
