"You've read the Hunger Games triology ... now what? We've gathered our picks of other dystopian novels -- books that imagine a not-so-rosy future under a menacing and oppressive regime, where teens and other folks must rely on their wits, courage, and strong friendships to survive. You can also check out our science-fiction, fantasy, and thiller recommendation lists to find even more choices for kids, tweens, and teens. "
"The Internet has made researching subjects deceptively effortless for students - or so it may seem to them at first. Truth is, students who haven't been taught the skills to conduct good research will invariably come up short."

"Apple's "trifold" announcement last week was exciting: textbooks coming to iBooks; iBooks Author software to create your own books; and a dedicated iTunes U app, which "bundles" courses in a manageable, multimedia package. If you haven't watched the Apple Keynote, I highly recommend it, but I want to guide you to my favorite part. It comes in around the 56:25 time on the video where Eddy Cue announces that K12 Institutions can now sign up to deliver content in iTunes U. This is phenomenal news, and I believe, will have the potential to transform education more than the textbook announcement."

"School teachers and administrators can log in and watch any video, but students cannot log in and can only watch YouTube EDU videos and videos their school has added. All comments and related videos are disabled, and search is limited to YouTube EDU videos.
YouTube also has created a page for teachers, YouTube.com/Teachers, to help them learn to use the site as a powerful educational tool."
"Want to convert PDF to JPG? Submit your PDF, we convert it to JPG, online! You will also have the opportunity to download the pictures as a zip file."
This is a great tool to use and/or share with students that need to convert PDF documents to a JPG format so that they may be uploaded to Schoology! It is free, it works entirely online and does not require the student to create an account. Woo-hoo!
"It's rare for education reformers, policymakers, and funders to listen to those at the heart of education reform work: The students. In fact Ann Curry who hosted Education Nation's first student panel* admitted folks at NBC were a little nervous about putting kids on stage. In their "Voices of a Nation" discussion, young people provided insight into their own experiences with education and what they think needs to be done to ensure that every student receives a world-class education. After the discussion Curry knew these students didn't disappoint. She told viewers, "Students wanted to say something that made a difference to you (adults) and they did. Now adults need to listen.""
