EdTech Toolbox: Student Designed E-books: Challenge Based Learning - 0 views

  • Martin said... Fantastic project Greg and thanks for sharing. Our grade 6 and 7 students in West Vancouver are just now completing a year-long magazine publishing project. Each student selected a topic of interest and throughout the year they have been taught various writing and publishing techniques. We have partnered with a local university graphic design department and their first year design students have been assisting our students with their layout and design, to produce dramatic publications. Our students have been so motivated the entire year. Giving the students choice and a bit of freedom to experiment and collaborate has been enlightening. We really have noticed a significant level of engagement and ownership with all students, including some boys who are not that keen to write. Our completed magazines will be posted on our ISSUU site http://issuu.com/mandrews. Several samples have been posted.

CogDogRoo - StoryTools - 0 views

  •
Below you will find 50+ web tools you can use to create your own web-based story. Again, the mission is not to review or try every single one (that would be madness, I know), but pick one that sounds interesting and see if you can produce something. I have used each tool to produce an example of the original Dominoe story, plus links are provided, where available, to examples by other people. Please share your own examples or thoughts in the discussion area of this wiki. Very easy to use and cool site that shares real tools with the teacher in mind.

Educational Uses of Digital Storytelling - 0 views

  •
Digital Storytelling is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories. As with traditional storytelling, most digital stories focus on a specific topic and contain a particular point of view. However, as the name implies, digital stories usually contain some mixture of computer-based images, text, recorded audio narration, video clips and/or music.

Top 7 Semantic Search Engines As An Alternative To Google - 0 views

  •
There's no denying the power and popularity of the Google search engine, and in comparison to other similar search engines such as Bing, where results are based on page rankings and algorithms, they excel. But there are other ways to search the web, using what are known as semantic search engines. Using a semantic search engine will ensure more relevant results based on the ability to understand the definition of the word or term that is being searched for, rather than on numbers. Semantic search engines are able to understand the context in which the words are being used, resulting in smart, relevant results.

Free Technology for Teachers: How to Put a Video Editor on Your School's Website - 0 views

  •
In Making Videos on the Web I included directions for using the web-based video editor JayCut. That guide was designed for average computer-using classroom teachers, not computer science folks who enjoy tinkering. Therefore, in my guide I left out the fact that JayCut's API is free and allows you to put the JayCut video editor on your own website.

Digital Literacy: Skills for the 21st Century: Introduction - 0 views

  •
This Digital Literacy Toolkit began with the premise that multimedia authoring, which is happening with the extensive use of PowerPoint in classrooms, must be taught as a skill, just as traditional text-based writing is taught. While teachers and students have become familiar with the technical skills required to use images in multimedia productions, they lack a critical language to determine whether an image or a sound is used appropriately.

How my students started using Evernote - Education Series « Evernote Blogcast - 0 views

  •
In the spring of 2010, I decided to introduce Evernote as a research tool to a group of 10th grade Literature/Composition students at my school. I chose Evernote because these students (part of a learning and technology integration program), were preparing to start a research project using multiple sources of information, including database articles, web-based news stories, videos, photos, and interviews. For their research, students were not only using a wide range of information sources, but they were also creating multigenre learning artifacts, such as VoiceThreads, artwork, videos, poetry, and other representations of their key learnings.
