Whether we like it or not, Google or Wikipedia are our student's first ports of call when it comes to researching or undertaking independent study, not the school library. Diigo offers a fantastic way to tap into the way our students operate by allowing the annotation of web pages which can then be shared with your students and, by doing so, you facilitate the process of research for your students and you set them on the right track for further independent study.
How cool is this!
For those unfamiliar with the term, a learning style is a way in which an individual approaches learning. Many people understand material much better when it is presented in one format, for example a lab experiment, than when it is presented in another, like an audio presentation. Determining how you best learn and using materials that cater to this style can be a great way to make school and the entire process of acquiring new information easier and much more intuitive.
The use of word clouds in the classroom is quickly gaining pace because of the number of different ways in which they can be used to promote student learning. However, Wordle is not your only choice in this field, because a number of great alternatives have recently been released to rival it.

"Good Prezis are arresting. In fact, in the same way that the whole 'death by PowerPoint' thing can actually obfuscate excellent content, you can put even average content into a nice Prezi and people will be still be excited to engage with it.
Incidentally, if this top 10 tips had to be just a top 1, it would be: a good Prezi is a balance between exploiting the capabilities of the medium, and ensuring these capabilities don't become and end in themselves."
"VoIP, or voice over IP, can save you a lot of money. Services like Skype offer free calls overseas to other computers and really cheap rates to overseas phones.
That's all well and good, but frequently using such services results in complaints on the other end about poor VoIP audio quality. If you find yourself in this situation, don't panic: in all likelihood this is a problem you can solve easily. You just need to tweak your home network, and your computer, to use VoIP to its fullest potential."
"This was a presentation from a first grade teacher named Erin Schoening who was using Facebook with her students, their families, and other targeted members in the school community.
In a world where there is such a fear of using Facebook in education even for high school, I wondered how she could succeed in using this as a tool with 1st graders????"
WOW!
Thinking of using Facebook rather than hiding from it?

This might be a repost...
But it's worth it

So, what is Wallwisher?
Well, Wallwisher is "an online notice board maker." Kind of a bleak description so to spice it up a little, Wallwisher is an online collaboration tool to share ideas, resources, and thoughts on a particular topic. Ahhh yes, much better…and pretty cool, huh?
Skype is a free downloadable software that lets you do voice and video calls combined with instant messaging for free. The possibilities of Skype to flatten your classroom are endless.
More and more websites are coming online to give students the ability to unleash their creativity in new and innovative ways. From abstract art to pointillism, students now can click and draw their way into original works of art, and today's freebie gives you a great list of places to begin.
The sites are labeled by grade level to help guide you to those that best suit your students. In addition, I've added ratings to give teachers and students an idea of how much interactivity is available at each site. Some allow students to create from beginning to end, while others simply generate the final product with minimal effort. What you will not find here are basic virtual coloring sheets. I tried to find sites that would give students a chance to generate their own original works of art. What could be better?
"With the new school year fast approaching for us in England - and well on its way in other parts of the world - I thought I would share 10 ideas for using Forms in the classroom."
"Day one of introducing Google Docs to a class is always an exciting one, I have been fortunate to be able to see three cohorts experience the fun ways to use it. Today we made a start with our Year 5s and had a great afternoon."
Hard to explain
To be clear, Qwiki isn't a piece of hardware. Instead, it's a piece of software meant to run on the web and as an app on mobile devices. What it does is present to you data about millions of topics in an extremely interesting and visual way. Imagine if someone created a movie highlight reel of Wikipedia pages - that's sort of what Qwiki is like. You search for something - a topic, a person, etc - and Qwiki talks to you, telling you all you need to know about what you searched for, while also showing you key things about the subject or person.
You can also click on sub-topics or related topics to access more Qwikis with vast amounts of other information. It's a fairly incredible way to consume information. And the data isn't just from Wikipedia. Say you do a search for a person, Qwiki can look at their social connections and tell you about their LinkedIn profile, for example. It is very, very impressive.
It doesn't matter if you're a veteran teacher or a newbie just now taking college courses - finding new ways to get students engaged in the classroom is always a great thing. One way many teachers are reaching out is with the multitude of material found on the web, allowing them to turn everyday lessons into a multimedia experience.
