"I wanted something very, very simple that delivered great results in 60 seconds of prep time or less. It may take you a few tries to get below the one-minute mark, but I think you'll enjoy the results every time! For your ciabatta you'll need: 4 cups of all-purpose flour (do NOT pack the flour into the measuring cup) 2 cups of warm water 1 teaspoon of salt 1/4 teaspoon of granulated yeast (or equivalent) For the gorgeous readers needing metric equivalents of this recipe, Toon left a comment with the following conversion: 500 grams of all-purpose flour 4,7 deciliter of warm water 4 grams of salt (= 1 teaspoon = 5 ml) 1 gram of dry yeast (= 1/4 teaspoon = 1,25 ml) You'll also need a medium-size mixing bowl, a 10×15 cookie sheet or baking stone, a hand towel or plastic wrap, and whatever you'd like to keep your bread from sticking (if you're using a pan, I use flour and corn meal). Have everything handy? Good. Let's do this! 1. Mix Water & Yeast Pour the warm water into the medium-size mixing bowl and stir in the yeast with a spoon. No need to be particular, just dump and slosh. 2. Add Flour And Salt Add flour and salt to your bowl of yeasty water. "What is a Tetris Game? Languages Online Tetris is played like other versions of the game. Different shaped blocks fall from the top of the screen. The blocks can be moved to the left or right and can be rotated to form completed rows. When a row is complete it dissappears from screen and points are added to your score. If rows are not completed they remain on screen. These unfinished rows build up, making it harder and harder to manouver the falling blocks into place. The game ends when the blocks build up to the top of the play space. In this version of tetris the game pauses after every fourth block has fallen. To continue you must type in the correct word in response to a clue and click 'check'. If the answer is correct the game continues. If the answer is not correct then a 'bomb' falls through the game space removing any blocks in it's way. Using the Tetris Game Maker you create the lanmguages task for students to complete. The clue can be either text, pictures or voice recordings, and you must also enter the correct answer word. You can make games in any language. Any script (for example Arabic or Japanese) that can be typed on your computer can be used."

"Guy Kawasaki last week wrote an item describing 'ten things you should learn this school year' in which readers were advised to learn how to write five sentence emails, create powerpoint slides, and survive boring meetings. It was, to my view, advice on how to be a business toady. My view is that people are worth more than that, that pleasing your boss should be the least of your concerns, and that genuine learning means something more than how to succeed in a business environment. But what should you learn? Your school will try to teach you facts, which you'll need to pass the test but which are otherwise useless. In passing you may learn some useful skills, like literacy, which you should cultivate. But Guy Kawasaki is right in at least this: schools won't teach you the things you really need to learn in order to be successful, either in business (whether or not you choose to live life as a toady) or in life. Here, then, is my list. This is, in my view, what you need to learn in order to be successful. Moreover, it is something you can start to learn this year, no matter what grade you're in, no matter how old you are. I could obviously write much more on each of these topics. But take this as a starting point, follow the suggestions, and learn the rest for yourself. And to educators, I ask, if you are not teaching these things in your classes, why are you not?"

Broadcastr is a new site that lets you record audio for up to three minutes and then "attach" it to a map location. It also gives you the url address of your recording. This could be a great resource for English Language Learners and all students. They could write, and then record, reflections from a field trip, describe their home countries, talk about something that happened in a particular place in a work of fiction, and then attach it to that geographical location. In addition to being there for an "authentic audience" (someone other than their teacher and classmates), the link to the recording can be posted on a student/teacher blog or website.

What is the Comprehension Task Maker? The Comprehension Task Maker is a program that can be downloaded and installed on your computer. Once installed, you can use the Comprehension Task Maker to create your own customised interactive multimedia comprehension tasks. When creating a comprehension task there are two main componants: * The information for comprehension * The questions the player must complete to show they understand the information provided. Questions can be either multiple choice or True - False. Because you decide on the information and questions, you can create tasks for any level and for any topic. Tasks can be made in any language using any script. Finished tasks are saved as webpages and can be used for any non commercial purposes. They can be copied onto the school network, a memory stick to share with others. Tasks can be linked to the schools intranet or ineternet site, or included in a blog.

"To create a filter Click the down arrow in your search box. A window that allows you to specify your search criteria will appear. Enter your search criteria. If you want to check that your search worked correctly, click the search button. Click Create filter with this search at the bottom of the search window. If you need to verify the search results, you can click the x to collapse the filter options. Clicking the down arrow again will bring the window back with the same search criteria you entered. Choose the action(s) you want the filter to take. To keep organized, many people like to have incoming messages automatically labeled and removed from their inbox until they can look at them later at a more convenient time. If you want to do this, make sure to select Skip the Inbox (Archive it) and Apply the label: when you create your filter. Click the Create filter button. Please note: When you create a filter to forward messages, only new messages will be affected. Any existing messages that the filter applies to will not be forwarded. To use a particular message to create a filter Select the message in your message list. Click the More button, then Filter messages like these. Enter your filter criteria in the appropriate field(s)."
