Google For Educators - Web Search - 0 views

  •
The following Search Education lessons were developed by Google Certified Teachers to help you do just that. The lessons are short, modular and not specific to any discipline so you can mix and match to what best fits the needs of your classroom. Additionally, all lessons come with a companion set of slides (and some with additional resources) to help you guide your in-class discussions.

Creating a Culture of Collaboration Through Technology Integration | always learning - 0 views

Hard to get away from this "reality"  Even providing for technologist requires finances.
  • Too often the discussions about technology in schools are driven by finances and the technology itself.
  • Once a school begins to build this culture of collaboration, it soon becomes second nature for teachers to work in partnership with the technology facilitator, bringing new and innovative ideas into the classroom, learning new ways to meet the needs of all students, and exploring the possibilities to connect, communicate and create on a global scal

Unmasking the Digital Truth / FrontPage - 1 views

  •
The goal of this collaborative wiki is to "unmask the digital truth" with respect to the reasons some leaders today are overfiltering and overblocking web 2.0 sites in schools and libraries, and provide reasonable alternatives which support broader student and teacher access to these sites.

Khan Academy, Bringing Creativity to Class Time (by Sal Khan) - 1 views

  • Not only would it provide for deeper, more motivated learning, but a portfolio of meaningful projects is vastly more interesting for a prospective employer than a GPA on a transcript (we know because Khan Academy’s own hiring process cares a lot more about what someone has creatively produced than their GPA).
    • Rob Reynolds

Students who are looking for jobs with new innovative companies better stop worrying about their GPA and start thinking much more seriously about what they produce.
  • This liberates the rest of class time for peer tutoring, higher level interactions between teachers and students, and truly creative projects.

Don't think that Khan, or any other tech tool can ever replace a teacher.  It just changes their job.
  • We played a variation of freeze tag where we changed the size of the playing field and the number of “freezers”.  Students predicted and observed how the dynamics of the game changed as more freezers were added and the threshold needed to freeze everyone.  They were quick to draw analogies to other areas of science.

Blogging About The Web 2.0 Connected Classroom: Interactive Whiteboards-Sage On The Stage? - 3 views

  • Now, some would argue for the tablets or slates that connect with these IWBs.That is still one kid at a time manipulating and interacting.
    • Diane Woodard

I have to wonder about this. I would suggest that some teachers only use the slate as a mobile mouse. I would suggest that if you have an itouch use the air mouse or touchpad elite. This will accomplish the same task. I wonder if this would allow multiple students to use their itouch?
  • Laptops, Netbooks, Document Cameras, Flip Video, anything that gets all kids using technology and interacting with technology, together.

I would have to add to this list...iTouch. I am finding more and more ways to use the iTouch in the teaching/learning environment. The K-12 on-line conference has some great podcasts on this topic. I am also a part of a Diigo group called ipods in education that has some great resources!
  • room my school had 3 IWBs that had never been used before I got there. I had used one in my student teaching and really enjoyed using it and teaching with it. When I discovered there were IWBs in my scho
