The post-911 obsession with eliminating risks and threats has produced an architecture of mass surveillance where national security interests seem to be prized over everything else.

Echelon's wide arm of reach (run by U.S.A, U.K, Canada, Australia, New Zealand) presents a potential threat to the privacy of people all over the world. One never knows if the Echelon is used to spy on private citizens. The war on terror has inverted the relationship between the citizen and the state. Once, the government was to be transparent for accountability reasons. Now, the citizen is made transparent in the name of national security.

Where should the line be drawn between national security and privacy? Should the individual's right to privacy be sacrificed for the 'greater good'?
