Temporary Protected Status will extend by another 18 months for those 66 thousand Hundurans and 3,000 Nicaraguans working in the United States. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said that they would have from May 5 to July 5 to renew their status. "The administration says Nicaragua and Honduras continue to recover from Hurricane Mitch preventing them from adequately handling the return of their citizens.," read the AP news real. Hurricaine Mitch happened in 1998, so it is interesting that they contribute this to that rather than the devistating drought in the South (of Honduras), famine, political instability, governemnt death squads, ect.
