Small businesses are suffering in Chile because of the earthquake. Some that took many years to build were swept away in instances during the large tsunamis that followed the initial quake. Many of the businesses have had to fire employees and this is creating a need to for immediate job creation. This will be a relatively easy task, however, as large parts of the country need to be rebuilt, creating jobs from construction to management. The fishing industry has also been hard hit by the earthquake, resulting in many jobless fishermen. And although unemployment is not rising (it is at 8.4%) no one is hiring and that is creating a large problem.
