The article points out that it is harmful to have such miniscule plastic particles floating everywhere in the ocean it does not point out any such solution or what could be done, only that thousands of samples are being taken. Where does it come from? The article states that 80% comes from land but then where is this other 20% coming from? I would assume from boats, spaceships, downed planes perhaps. Also of note, what kind of plastic is this that is ending up out there in a "remote expanse" of the Atlantic? From the picture I would assume plastic bottles and from the comments on the article I gather that many believe plastic bags are to blame. So then, the individual is responsible for the plastic confetti? The article needs to state where the plastic is coming from, what kind of products are creating the plastic debris, and how the problem might be dealt with as well as the harsh reality of what the garbage would mean for humans and the planet long term as well as short term (beyond the random fish eating the plastic instead of plankton).
