NFC Antennas - 1 views

  • So NFC is just a method of communication between two devices at short distance. What makes the NFC antenna design simple or easy? If you know much about antennas, the first question you might ask is what is the operating frequency of NFC. It turns out that these devices operate around 13.56 MHz. The corresponding wavelength is 22 meters long - this means to get a nice half-wave dipole antenna (that radiates well) we would need a device about 11 meters in length.
  • he NFC antenna area may be limited to 3"x1" (or 7 cm * 2.5 cm). Hence, we are talking about fitting an antenna i

Z-Wave - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • Z-Wave is a wireless communications protocol designed for home automation, specifically to remotely control applications in residential and light commercial environments. The technology uses a low-power RF radio embedded or retrofitted into home electronics devices and systems, such as lighting, home access control, entertainment systems and household appliances.

DASH7 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 1 views

  • DASH7 is an open source wireless sensor networking standard for wireless sensor networking, which operates in the 433 MHz unlicensed ISM band. DASH7 provides multi-year battery life, range of up to 2 km, indoor location with 1 meter accuracy, low latency for connecting with moving things, a very small open source protocol stack, AES 128-bit public key encryption support, and data transfer of up to 200 kbit/s. DASH7 is the name of the technology promoted by the non-profit consortium called the DASH7 Alliance.

Japan collab transmits record data speeds on terahertz waves - 0 views

  • Japan collab transmits record data speeds on terahertz waves
  • Researchers from Japan-based semiconductor manufacturer Rohm, together with a team from Osaka University, have come up with a chip that, in experiments, has achieved a wireless data transmission speed of 1.5 gigabits per second. This is a record breaker as the world's first terahertz wireless communication achieved with a small semiconductor device. The chip’s ability to transmit at such a quick speed is not the end of the story. Even higher transmission speeds of up to 30 Gbps may be possible in the future, according to reports.
  • “Research into terahertz technology utilising Terahertz frequency (100GHz-10THz) is now receiving increasing attention around the world,” according to an Osaka University publication

  • One limitation on terahertz equipment has said to be its suitability only for indoor applications due to its vulnerability to interference from the atmosphere.

Tesla (unit) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • A particle carrying a charge of 1 coulomb and passing through a magnetic field of 1 tesla at a speed of 1 meter per second perpendicular to said field experiences a force of 1 newton, according to the Lorentz force law. As an SI derived unit, the tesla can also be expressed as (in SI base units).[3] Units used: A = ampere C = coulomb kg = kilogram m = meter N = newton s = second T = tesla V = volt Wb = weber [edit] Electric vs Magnetic Field
  • The difference between magnetic field strength (in tesla) vs electric field strength can be confusing.[citation needed] The difference is that a force of magnetic field on a charged particle is generally due to the charged particle's movement[4] while the force imparted by an electric field on a charged particle is not due to the charged particle's movement. This can be seen by looking at the units for each. Electric field is N/C, while magnetic field (in tesla) can be written as N/(C*m/s). The difference between the two is m/s, or velocity. This can further be seen by noting that whether a field is magnetic or electric is dependent on one's relativistic reference frame (that is: one's velocity relative to the field).[5][6] In ferromagnets the movement creating the magnetic field is the electron spin[7] (and to a lesser extent electron orbital angular momentum). In current carrying wire (electromagnets) the movement is due to electrons moving through the wire (whether the wire's straight or circular).

Two military spy telescopes, just as big and powerful as Hubble, donated to NASA - 0 views

  • Two military spy telescopes, just as big and powerful as Hubble, donated to NASA
  • The telescopes were built by private contractors for the National Reconnaissance Office, one of 16 U.S. intelligence agencies. Each have 2.4-meter (7.9-foot) mirrors, just like the Hubble, but they have 100 times the field of view.
  • the telescopes, built in the late 1990s and early 2000s, are now technologically outdated, at least for intelligence operations, despite being just as powerful as Hubble. Now that something that’s worth taking into consideration. Moreover, these telescopes worth hundreds of millions of dollars have never seen operation! Instead they’ve been shelved in a warehouse somewhere, of course, classified. And they might find themselves, yet again, blocked in a warehouse, since NASA, on a string budget, doesn’t have the necessary cash to fit them.
