Asus Padfone Unlocked Available (Full Specifications) - 0 views

  • ASUS lifted the veil over its long-awaited redesigned 9.2mm thin PadFone at the MWC. Sporting a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display, Snapdragon S4 with the new Adreno 225 GPU, and 8MP camera with LED flash and f/2.2 aperture, as well as 16-64GB of internal storage plus microSD slot, it has what we would expect from a modern high-end. Connectivity is taken care of 42Mbps HSPA+ radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI and A-GPS, while a 1,520mAh battery unit is included as a juicer. The Padfone can get inserted into an optional tablet frame, whose 10.1 inch screen then gets powered by the phone itself, and can extend your battery life significantly. There is another dock, which allows you to add a detachable keyboard accessory, like on the Transformer Pad series. This one also comes with a stylus that except for doodling can be used to receive your phone calls as well, considering that the phone is inserted in the mothership.

Arduino - Introduction - 0 views

  • What is Arduino?
  • Arduino is a tool for making computers that can sense and control more of the physical world than your desktop computer. It's an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple microcontroller board, and a development environment for writing software for the board.
  • Inexpensive - Arduino boards are relatively inexpensive compared to other microcontroller platforms. The least expensive version of the Arduino module can be assembled by hand, and even the pre-assembled Arduino modules cost less than $50
  • ...4 more annotations...
  • Cross-platform - The Arduino software runs on Windows, Macintosh OSX, and Linux operating systems. Most microcontroller systems are limited to Windows.
  • Simple, clear programming environment - The Arduino programming environment is easy-to-use for beginners, yet flexible enough for advanced users to take advantage of as well. For teachers, it's conveniently based on the Processing programming environment, so students learning to program in that environment will be familiar with the look and feel of Arduino
  • Open source and extensible software- The Arduino software and is published as open source tools, available for extension by experienced programmers. The language can be expanded through C++ libraries, and people wanting to understand the technical details can make the leap from Arduino to the AVR C programming language on which it's based. SImilarly, you can add AVR-C code directly into your Arduino programs if you want to.
  • Open source and extensible hardware - The Arduino is based on Atmel's ATMEGA8 and ATMEGA168 microcontrollers. The plans for the modules are published under a Creative Commons license, so experienced circuit designers can make their own version of the module, extending it and improving it. Even relatively inexperienced users can build the breadboard version of the module in order to understand how it works and save money.

Researchers create super-small transistor, artificial atom powered by single electrons - 0 views

  • Researchers create super-small transistor, artificial atom powered by single electrons
  • The SketchSET—which is the first single-electron transistor made entirely of oxide-based materials—consists of an island formation that can house up to two electrons. The number of electrons on the island—which can be only zero, one, or two—results in distinct conductive properties. Wires extending from the transistor carry additional electrons across the island.
  • One virtue of a single-electron transistor is its extreme sensitivity to an electric charge, Levy explained. Another property of these oxide materials is ferroelectricity, which allows the transistor to act as a solid-state memory. The ferroelectric state can, in the absence of external power, control the number of electrons on the island, which in turn can be used to represent the 1 or 0 state of a memory element. A computer memory based on this property would be able to retain information even when the processor itself is powered down, Levy said. The ferroelectric state also is expected to be sensitive to small pressure changes at nanometer scales, making this device potentially useful as a nanoscale charge and force sensor.
