Teflpedia is an award-winning wiki dedicated to everything associated with teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) or second language (TESL). Our objective is to become a major user-generated resource for English teachers from all over the world. We opened our doors on 27th May 2008 and we've been growing ever since. [This looks very interesting...and I'm already a big fan of wikis.]

I found this link by becoming a member of one of the other open groups on Diigo - TechnoLanguages. You are probably familiar with the very prolific David Crystal. He about to release a new book on the history of English spelling (and where we are going with the advent of technology). This is a excerpt from the book

You may have already heard about this response by Rep John Conyers from Michigan...There was a hearing today (8/2) on English-Only legislation. To demonstrate his strong opposition to the proposed law, Conyers presented his response in Spanish. There's also a video of him speaking.

This site is a treasure trove of NNS of English reading a short text. Each text includes a narrow transcription. There is an amazing range of languages available (and for some more than one speech sample).

Well, this isn't really an ESL issue, but it's very interesting and could be useful in a TESL or Linguistics class...or just for anyone interested in word origins.  

You may already have heard about this huge project from Google - the Ngram Viewer - an online tool for analyzing the history of language and culture, but there are some improvements.  The corpus is mind-boggling lare - 20 million books, and not just in English.  Plus the words have been tagged with their parts of speech.  There are some other functions that let you narrow in on particular groups of words...it seems to have some concordancer functions.  Well, you can read this article to learn more.

From TED-Ed, source of some high quality materials. This 4 1/2 minute video is a very nice history of plural in English. Pretty advanced for students, but good for teachers.
