"The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a calculation of the ratio between your weight and your height. The formula is used to determine the amount of body fat you carry. The formula is your weight divided by your height squared (BMI = kg/m2)."

This demonstration of calculating BMI is done using a series of slides. You can skip through stages you don't need. Vivian demonstrates a variety of examples of BMI calculations. An online BMI calculator... change it to Kilograms and centimetres and it will work it out for you and whether you are overweight or not. BE CAREFUL this site is American i think so the set figures may vary from what you are studying at the final calculations
