Teaching Strategies that Enhance Higher-Order Thinking - 6 views

  •
The article seems more relevant for K-12 although it may be used to enlighten educators who continue to embrace the sage on the stage methodology of teaching.
  •
Great article! While reading the article I immediately thought about how young children are taught to memorize the ABC's and numbers through rote learning. Young children actively engaged with letters and numbers using concrete objects to guide them in their learning results in higher-order thinking.

Working This Out - 1 views

Greetings all! I choose this url because I had to many windows open to do anything else. I have this all together now, I think. My correct blog name is rmichellewalton.wordpress.com I am now seeing how important technology is to education. This has truly been a teachable moment for me. As I become more and more familiar with technology, I will begin to gradually incorporate it into my classes. Twitter for Academia has opened my eyes to another way to facilitate the educational process. This is a great article. Here's the url. http://academhack.outsidethetext.com/home/2008/twitter-for-academia/

Investigating faculty decisions to adopt Web 2.0 technologies: Theory and empirical tests - 1 views

  •
This paper addresses the faculty's awareness of the benefits of Web 2.0 to supplement in-class learning and assess faculty's decisions to adopt these tools using the decomposed theory of planned behavior. In my experience, all assignments in our courses are taught and completed in computer labs, we are supposed to attend several hours or more of professional development, teaching assistants and faculty are encouraged to pursue a certificate in teaching with technology, and in addition, more experienced teaching assistants routinely share their knowledge and experience in working with different types of technology with their colleagues who are just starting. The attitude of faculty and their perceived behavioral control are the main concern to their intention to use the technology tools.

I hope this is working. I've bookmarked this to my diigo but it doesn't seem to link to my groups. Is there something I need to do to link it to my groups?

Screencast-O-Matic - Awsome Free Screen Capture Tool - 2 views

  •
Free one-click screen capture recording on Windows or Mac computers with no install. Works from most browsers, but you can also download a desktop application. The paid version (only $15) enables more editing tools. Faculties can also buy a Pro Page Subscription, navigate to their page, and use the full version instantly. We have this in our division, and its a great tool for quick, no fuss recording for those who are not so tech savvy but still want to add videos to their courses.

The Complete Guide To Twitter Hashtags For Education - 8 views

  •
A word or phrase preceded by a "#." How do hashtags work? Twitter can be a busy place with lots of tweets-and thus lots of "noise." A #hashtag is a way to aggregate tweets that are appended with a hashtag. Picture it like a magnet that attracts all messages categorized by that topical word or phrase.

Really useful! I'm still, however, not convinced that Twitter can be useful for much else than brainstorming.. Thanks though!

Relevant to this week's topic, this short video explains what makes a good podcast (and I completely disagree with the commenter who says that podcasts should be rambling and silly--those types of podcasts are very annoying!).
