Center for Continuing Studies - Innovative Leadership for Lifelong Learning - 1 views

The best way to determine how to offer your distance learning course is to consider these items: What do you want your students to know? How do you teach this on campus? How comfortable are you with technology-and do you want to learn? Remember: More technology does not make better teaching or learning.

I faced an internet connection issue, and this article shows how Twitter can be a reliable tool even when there is no connection, as students can receive messages to their phone. I thought it would be interesting to see how Twitter is being used in the Arab world academia

Most surprising: those students who used e-textbooks, prefer textbooks. Study based on 90 or so students, so conclusions should be seen as tentative

FREE webinars include collaboration technologies, Merlot Introduction, and ePortfolios in the Cloud. Resources include Sloan Semester Archives that tell the story of how "Using online learning, colleges and universities from across the country responded in record numbers to help students and institutions impacted by the storms. Dubbed "Sloan Semester" the initiative provided free online courses to students impacted by Katrina and Rita storms." Here you can identify more benchmarks in a useful case-study of how Institutions committed to online learning were transformed to leverage learning resources in a time of need. I know that Illinois schools looked at Elluminate when H1N1 was an active global pandemic.

Educational Games Research " Is FarmVille Educational? - 1 views

  •
This blog has followed social gaming juggernaut Zynga's progress for a couple years now. One of its most popular gaming apps is FarmVille, which runs on Facebook and touts an estimated 70 million players, making it one of, if not the, most popular games ever. Testaments to the game's popularity abound. I opted to post this here as we are debating the use of Web 2.0 tools in education. Farmville dominated Facebook games for a number of years, and educators made use of this trend to enhance their teaching. Though it has not been developed for educational purposes, I know even teachers of business studies who used it in their classes with students 13+ of age. This example should encourage us to make use of what is trending and popular with our students to our advantage!

#TT1921 (M Oyeleye) Hello Tess, I went digging on tumblr. I hope this helps. Tumblr is a microblogging and social networking website, The service allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. Users can follow other users' blogs. Bloggers can also make their blogs private. I have attached some links to support your reading on tumblr. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tumblr https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1z5CgSt_tc8 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=spQcyqQqN1o

Dear Norm, thank you for the article. Some very interesting things are using polls on Twitter (great for student feedback/opinion), creating YouTube video lessons to replace the classroom lecture with a video lecture in a f2f class, and using a blogging website on collaborative group projects.

TT1921 (M Oyeleye) Prof. Garrett, What a great article to read! I was intrigued with this question, which I have tweaked a bit - "How can we as educators make the best use of Twitter or Diigo to help connect our students with amazing, inspiring personalities in the various fields we teach"?. Please, I will be interested in any response or comment on this?
