Surprisingly clear information on video. First, learn to play a solo with only 4 notes. Of course, you can take it far beyond the lesson, using intonation, expression, style, different note-bending, polyrhythmic approaches, etc. Then...more notes! Great way to begin... And many more lessons available, even free, or for low-cost.
Mathieu Charrois is from Montréal, QC. He's been playing since 2004, and has picked up a lot of solo phrases from Mamady Keita and other djembefola... His lessons are fantastically explicit, with audio mp3s, notation, and detailed explanation. Wonderful resource!
lMichael Pluznick demonstrates various shekere techniques and solo starting with basic 6/8 movements!... This video is a full, standalone lesson. But there's much more to learn. If you want more instruction, check out this website:http://www.earthcds.com/caribbean/cuba/cuba-shekere.shtm
martinledjembefola writes, "I'm a musician and percussionist who has a passion for Africa and drums, especially djembe." He generously uploaded 16 djembe rhythm notations, 4 djembe lessons, and a legend for reading the notations, to Scribd ...11 months ago...and I'm the first to "like" his posts! Can you believe it? What riches he gave us!
