How Music Festivals Are Utilizing Technology - 0 views

  • This is where technology comes into play again: hashtags. Groups can create specific hashtags for their meetup and then attract others or post live updates through that stream. For example, there was a Chicago tech meetup at this year's festival and the members created "#sxchi" to use in any tweet surrounding the topics to be discussed or event details - that way everyone in the group could easily see what was going on.
  • Another way Bonnaroo uses technology is by promoting the event (both before and even afterwards) around playlists through Spotify surrounding the featured artists.
  • Bonnaroo uses the the RFID wristband. You are able to register your wristband online, giving you access to merchandise discounts, set lists and free music from the Bonnaroo performers. As you walk through the gates, this technology is aimed not only to let the festival know you have arrived, but also to help stop ticket fraud allowing only the fans to attend or buy the ticket.

How technology helped Music Festivals. Notes for our timeline: Hashtags were invented in August 2007. Spotify was developed in 2006. I do not know the actual day and month. But it was launched in October 2008. And the Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology can be traced way back to World War II. The year when it was actually discovered by a Scottish physicist was 1935. Let me know if you guys want me to start filing it in on our Google Doc Spreadsheet. Also, I sometimes tend to be nocturnal. I'll start working on the major contributions made by leading individuals when I awake. If I've missed something or done something incorrect please notify me so I can correct or re-due it. Thank you.

"The first South by Southwest Music Conference and Festival (SXSW) was held in 1987 in Austin, Texas. Despite the fact that Austin was not a Top 20 major market at the time, the background and character of the city made it a perfect location for the conference."
