Any vegetation you remove from the hillside must be replaced with other vegetation. Finding ground covers that suppress weeds and fight soil erosion are your best choice. Many of these ground covers also give color and beauty to your hillside. The ground covers that provide foliage as well as flowers are recommended. That way when the ground cover is done blooming, you will still have the beautiful foliage to look at. Another good idea is to put down landscape fabric before planting your ground cover. This will give an added protection to help fight soil erosion.

Maintain the Landscaping on Your Slope or Hill

When you have completed your hillside landscaping, you will then need to maintain it. If the rainfall has created any ruts or erosion in the hillside consider adding a dry creek bed in these ruts. By adding river rock to the hillside, you will create a place for the water to gather and run down the hill without eroding the soil. Whatever your choice in landscaping your hillside, it is a sure bet you will be happy with what you have done. Taking a once ugly hillside and making it a beautiful landscape is very satisfying.

Even after your tulips have bloomed and become fully grown their leaves will die down. You can then dig them up and store them in a cold area and replant them later.

Tulips are a perennial which means that they can live two years or more if treated right. There are more than one hundred different species of tulips. Some are naturally occurring but others have been created through scientific research. Those are called hybrids and they usually have an earlier or later blooming period so it is best to start out with a basic single bloom bulb.

Tulips love water and sunshine like most plants do. The tulip prefers to have fresh water so it wants its water constantly draining out of the soil. The best way to do this is to add sand and compost to the soil so that the water will easily drain out. When planting the tulip bulbs you must remember that the basic guide for how deep to dig is three times the length of the bulb.

Choosing to start a beginning gardener off with tulips is a wonderful idea because these flowers are not very temperamental and are highly disease resistant. The only known botanical disease these flowers are not immune to is called Tulip Fire.

Tulip Fire is also called Botrytis Blight because the fungus that causes the infection is called Botrytis tulipae. This disease attacks everything from petal to stem on your tulips so you should keep an eye out for it.

You can keep a supply of new bulbs by digging up a tulip plant that has run its two year course. Just make sure to dig it up before the plant dies and you can pluck off the new bulbs that have grown around the base of the old bulb. Following these basic tulip growing tips will have you gardening like a professional in no time.

When times are hard, or if you're simply feeling in a very creative and hands on mood, great container gardening ideas need not cost the earth!.
