An interesting blog for a conference that took place in Telluride, Colorado, last month which looked at risk and rewards and encouraged innovative thinking. Some of the presentation resources are available here: http://rsquaredconference.org/program/resources

This Super Mario Bros.-themed lamp (which cha-chings when punched) was one of many ideas featured at the recent ALA Virtual Conference, where the topic of makerspaces was discussed. The Mario-themed, cube-shaped lamp cha-chings when punched. "That light was awesome," said a Texas participant in the online chat sidebar.

Can we get that lamp for the office?

I was thinking the same thing! It would look great in the living room.

An idea that came from the "Risks and Rewards" conference to give away skateboards branded with the libraries logo. While it would serve for good advertising and word of mouth, I question how much additional patronage it would bring.

This was of interest considering my visit to the Wolfner Library during the conference. The issue seems to center around loosening copyright restrictions so blind readers can have more easy access to materials that have be converted into a format accessible to them, and the resistance of the entertainment and publishing industries even though it would be beneficial.

This is an awesome tool I saw at the Evergreen conference. I used it on the Merlin git repo which was cool to see but since everything is in a flat directory structure and it's mostly Jessica (and a little bit me) committing it's not nearly as cool as some of the videos from other projects.

After the opening keynote at our conference, this seemed relevant.  I think the need for data curation will become more and more relevant as we move to a paperless society.  Though, given the challenges of what to preserve and how, that day may be long in coming.

I couldn't find a way to link directly to presentations or their materials. Probably the most interesting sessions I attended were: Solving the Complexities of Ebook Record Management in Millennium INN-Reach: Implementing Peer to Peer Functionality Between two INN-Reach Systems The Ebooks presentation was about checking for duplication, quality control, and making sure all the records an institution paid for are present and have valid links. There were a lot of good techniques that could be relayed to our members as a group of best practices. The Peer-To-Peer INN-Reach is a new product that allows two INN-Reach systems to share materials as if they were one. It was a done in Ohio as a response after one consortium added two public libraries and began to see their single INN-Reach server overwhelmed. From what I could tell it works well, with each INN-Reach server able to retain it's own loan rules and identity, but did require all the libraries and pickup locations to be added to both servers, which quickly would present patrons with a very long list of libraries to choose from. I wasn't very clear where the super-union webpac resided; whether on it's own server or produced from both of them. The users that were present seemed happy with it.

Of course I meant to do that. I think this is a really great resource and we should use it some time . . .oh wait we already do. I tried reposting we'll see if that works.
