This document is the starting point for creating iOS apps. It describes the fundamental architecture of iOS apps, including how the code you write fits together with the code provided by iOS. An increasing number of first-time mobile app developers are also first-time developers. This makes sense if you think about it; mobile is the hot new platform and the barrier to entry is a lot lower for mobile devices.

After listening to the speech, the title of it sounds more like a warning rather than a prediction. Personally, I don't think the browser is going anywhere any time soon. As far as HTML5, I think it's going to be huge. Anxiously awaiting Ubuntu on tablets http://www.ubuntu.com/tablet/app-ecosystem and phones http://www.ubuntu.com/phone/app-ecosystem. Just think, with native HTML5 APIs, any web developer with some minor skill adjustment can develop native phone and tablet apps.

Google Cloud Messaging for Android (GCM) is a service that helps developers send data from servers to their Android applications on Android devices. This could be a lightweight message telling the Android application that there is new data to be fetched from the server (for instance, a movie uploaded by a friend), or it could be a message containing up to 4kb of payload data (so apps like instant messaging can consume the message directly).
