It's a foregone conclusion that everybody in the world will be a gamer someday. There are only a billion active gamers today. Someday there will be 7 billion, 8 billion active gamers. The growth opportunity for gaming is still well ahead of us. Gaming is the only entertainment that can be any entertainment. You and I both know that when the metaverse [arrives], we're going to spend a lot more time in game worlds, not just to game, but just to hang out, to be with people, to interact with people. The gaming market has a great future ahead of it.
Title: The Most Crucial Design Job Of The Future Excerpt: If artificial intelligence has any hope of expanding our understanding of the world, rather than simply reflecting old biases, it needs radical transparency.
Howard Rheingold: "Now that so many are forced to use online media to communicate, let's use this opportunity to create many smaller virtual communities and social networks outside the enclosed world of Facebook."
"documents the downward trend in the labor share of income since the early 1990s, as well as its heterogeneous evolution across countries, industries, and workers of different skill groups, using newly assembled data for a large sample of advanced and emerging market and developing economies. The chapter then analyzes the forces behind these trends. Technological progress, reflected in the steep decline in the relative price of investment goods, along with varying exposure to routine-based occupations, explains about half the overall decline in advanced economies, with a larger negative impact on the earnings of middle-skilled workers. "
"To continue advances in a Moore's Law Plus world requires co-engineering and a cooperative approach across the semiconductor industry with different manufacturers, working with academia, and open standards to create an easy-to-program environment. That is why I'm confident companies will be able to add more transistors, and manage the cost curve."
Transition Design brings together two global memes. First, the idea that entire societies must transition toward more sustainable, equitable and desirable long-term futures and second, that these transitions will require intentional, systems-level change. We see evidence of these memes in the large number of transition-related initiatives springing up around the world, and the rise in the number of tools and knowledge sets aimed at understanding complex systems and systems problems.
Virtual communities can make the world a better place. or they can manipulate elections by spreading hate messages en conspiracy theories. Or they can manipulate the stock markets in a so-called anti-establishment frenzy, which is no more that a thin veil hiding resentment, hate and greed. Revolutions are not always pretty to look at.
Why do so many in the Open Source world prefer gift-style licensing (BSD, MIT, Apache) vs. share-and-share-alike licensing (like GPL)?
Because the largest corporations control the dialogue and speak for the Open Source community, and it is to their advantage.
Not anyone else's.
