One of the best things about Google Drive is the ability to integrate third party applications to enhance the performance of your Drive and increase your productivity.

Think of these tools as powerful alternatives to Google Maps or Google Earth. The common denominator among all of these applications besides being simple and easy to use is that they are all web based and so do not require any software download.

If you are looking for web tools to create video lessons or platforms to help you flip your classroom , the tools below are probably what you need.

VideoNotes is a free web tool that allows students to take notes on a video they are watching. The notes are synchronized with the video being watched. The good thing about VideoNotes is that it is integrated into Google Drive which means that students will be able to save their notes directly to their Drive account and access, edit, and work on them anytime they want. All the notes are time-stamped.

BBC Schools offers an excellent collection of resources for helping students learn about World War I. The materials are sorted into a section for primary school students and a section for secondary school students.

Students should be able to easily create their own learning timelines and share them with each other.This can have a huge positive impact on their overall learning process.

Richard Byrne: Like many of you, when I was in middle school and high school we were taught to create index cards to organize our research. After creating the cards we sorted them into an order to support writing our research papers. That same concept can be applied to organizing research with Google Slides. Using the commenting feature of Google Documents is a good way to create a record of classroom conversations about an article that you have shared with your students. Using the commenting feature is also a good way to have the conversation about an article occur entirely online.

Edmodo is a web-based platform that provides a safe and easy way for your class to connect and collaborate, share content, and access homework, grades and school notices. It is like Facebook but in a safe and controlled environment appropriate for school.
