Mental Math

Step 1 Objective 1: Know by heart all addition and subtraction facts for each number to 20. Objective 2: Add and subtract mentally a 'near multiple of 10' to or from a two-digit number. Objective 3: Understand division as grouping or sharing and recognise that division is the inverse of multiplication.

The Mental Maths Milestones are split into year groups from Reception and progressing to Year 6. To make the targets relevant to the children, they are organised in colour from year 1 to year 6. Year 1 is referred to as a Red card, Year 2 is Orange, Year 3 is Yellow, Year 4 Green, Year 5 Blue and Year 6 Purple.
