ART involves the manipulation of gametes i.e. sperms and/or oocyte (egg) or embryos which are transferred into uterus or fallopian tubes to obtain pregnancy, by means other than natural intercourse. ART includes Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In-vitro fertilization (IVF), Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and other techniques.

Infertility, the inability to have children affects one in every seven couples of fertile age. The infertility rate is increasing as a result of increased stress, competitive work environment, hectic and fast paced imbalanced lifestyle, urbanisation, environmental toxins, delayed marriage and prolonged family planning.
