I've been banking with a small, local bank for years and I'm curious about your experiences with small-town banks vs. larger institutions. I love the personalized customer service and the fact that the tellers know me by name, but sometimes I wonder if I'm missing out on the convenience and tech features that bigger banks offer. For example, I recently had to call in for a simple account update, which took way longer than expected.

For those who have experience with both types, how do you feel about the trade-offs? Do you think it's worth sticking with a small bank for the personal touch, or have you found that larger banks offer better overall service? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I've worked in banking for over a decade, including at small and large institutions. Small banks definitely offer a more personal experience, but they can lag in technology and efficiency. If you value face-to-face interactions and community involvement, small banks are great. But if you're someone who relies heavily on mobile banking or needs 24/7 support, a larger bank might suit you better.

I bank with machias savings bank customer service and have had nothing but great experiences. They might not have all the bells and whistles of the big banks, but they make up for it with their community focus and personal care. That being said, I still keep a secondary account with a larger bank for times when I need more advanced features, like international transfers.
